IV isnt HORRIBLE per se but certainly much much less mechanically/essentially interesting than DQ4 and 5. Final Fantasy didnt get special until VI for sure
what sucks about ff6 is once you hit the dinosaur forest and level every character up, is that every character is the same except for celes. she has the ability to block Kefkas magic. celes is the only unique character battle wise.
Yeah, in 6-8 every character is basically the same because they call all do the same stuff (Eidolens in FF6, Equipping Materia in 7, Drawing Magic and Summons in 8) The only difference is their stats. That's why I loved the return to the classic style in 9 where everyone has their own unique Job.

Played it for the first time recently after playing through the previous 5 pixel remasters, I like it. I can't imagine what it would have been like to experience back in the day though, it's such a step up from what the games were like on the NES. Easier too, but way less aggravating.
>REALLY hate FFIV now instead because that game is just the blandest you can get without being like literally FFI or II.
FF4's main innovation was ATB, and to this day, its implementation in the original Japanese SNES version is still unique compared to later FFs. Everything else was pretty mundane, though, and the game definitely hasn't aged well because of that.

What made Sonygays the most bitter for a game going multiplat that was originally exclusive for them?
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 7
Dark Souls
Persona 5
4 doesn't even look or sound good enough to dismiss the augment and newgame + system of the 3ds version. I like 4, I still have my SNES cartridge somewhere, but it's true.
I think you can genuinely tell all of the NES->SNES transition era games simply by their color palette. You can just see them NOT playing around with the new colors and just making things slightly clearer. It feels like those games have a sort of early brown n' bloom filter on them.
The only people who say 6 is their favorite are 35 year olds who were too poor in the 1990's to afford a playstation and sour grapes'd hard as frick over FF7
FF7 is casual movie trash - that's literally their own admission for why the went to Sony - so anyone who says 7 is, is just a moron who wants to be part of something popular.
5 is factually the best most soulful one and everything else was downhill from there.
I'm not saying people don't like it, it's a great game. However around here nobody talked about it until a couple years ago when a bunch of people started claiming it was the best. That's all.
>The only people who say 6 is their favorite are 35 year olds who were too poor in the 1990's to afford a playstation and sour grapes'd hard as frick over FF7
I'm actually 35 (birthday was yesterday) and it's my favorite. But I got a Playstation so I could play FFVII when it came out, and loved that too

Fake and gay. No westerners even played FF until 7 came out.
yeah. in the United states it was a box set included with ff5 and it was called >final fantasy anthology
it had ff5 and 6 with the ost soundtrack cd. highly recommend
FF4 is my fav. I'm 34 but didn't play FF4 until I was 18 or so and it's still my favorite. I had played most other FFs that were out by then (including 11).
That wasn't out yet. I played the PS1 version. I started playing it at like 5pm one afternoon and had finished it by the next day. Too good. The ds version came out later that summer and I played and beat that too.
the only ds game I had was 3. I played all of them before it, but my mom knew I didn't own it because it was never released in the United States ever I like the pixel version the best of ff3
I'm 40 and bought 6 (or FFIII as they called it in the West but you youngsters wouldn't know that) and 7, and I still do prefer 6 to 7. 4 was actually what got me into the series, but looking back it doesn't hold up that well.
I'm 41 and I loved 6 because you could co-op that shit. It's a weird thing to think about actually but as a kid it was fun. I played 7 on release. Like both games for entirely different reasons. But also I've been playing since FF1 so whatever.
[...]
The ad campaign for the game was so odd. They tried to make Mog (!) into this smug, cool badass with 'tude. Didn't exactly take hold.
I've never forgotten this ad. I remember the first time I saw it and how weird it was. I remember the Secret of Evermore ads too. It wasn't until 7 that marketing dollars finally started getting spent.
Yeah it's alright
Without getting mega autistic the best ways to play the game are probably the fan-patched SNES version or the Pixel Remaster with a mod for a better text font
Mod in the old sprites and old overworld backgrounds. Both are the top mods on nexus and just involve dragging it into the folder. Pixel remaster without the mod is so bright the actual atmosphere of the game feels different.
6 pr is miles better than snes which i know is the unpopular opinion.
soul vs souless blah blah blah but objectively the snes sprites colors are really ugly and look like they were even more detailed but were hurriedly scrunched down to fit into the pixel resolution
Maybe it was because it was among my first RPGs but this entire detour from the "main" cast with these three guys was just so fricking charming, like there just isn't a modern equivalent in any game.
You've got the Captain of the Guard and the Twin Prince, they team up with a ninja (because ninjas are fricking still cool right, and not yet overused) and a ghost and they frick up the train equivalent of Charon on the River Styx. Then you fricking dive down a waterfall, because in this world you're all just Bayonetta characters including murdering all the wildlife on the way down.
Then you meet this fricking wild kid that is essentially recruiting a monster, in fact, ALL the monsters. In North America you don't know what a Blue Mage is yet, you don't know what Omnislash is, and this twin to the king is actually just a Dragon Ball character, which too is still cool and not totally shit.
It was so fricking absurd but you weren't snapped out of it. And the entire game was like that to the end. From the beginning when the fricking cat-bat things on the cover save you and it turns out they're all just disco-murderers. Okay sure, why not. Final Fantasy just became shit because half the cast became children. It was fine when it was just Gau and Yuffie. But then 8 was all moronic teenagers, half of 9 was teenagers, basically so was 10, and it was teenagers forever. And yunno what, the fricking ninjas stopped showing up too; and the Cids were less and less frequently carrying the team.
Love it. Been playing it for the first time recently and its pretty great. Different feel than other games even FFVII but quality all the same. You have to be willing to accept some obtuse progression but other than that its solid.
It room until just now for me to realize that Mog doesn't have a little Spanish mustache, and what I thought was his frown his in fact his shoulder.
Yes, I am moronic.
I'm 40 and bought 6 (or FFIII as they called it in the West but you youngsters wouldn't know that) and 7, and I still do prefer 6 to 7. 4 was actually what got me into the series, but looking back it doesn't hold up that well.

No, JRPGs are a dogshit genre that should've died in the PS2 era.
Their "fans" are some of the most voracious weeb shit eaters though so they're unfortunately still around
I should compile the translations across every release of FF6 between Relm and Edgar and their single moment of interaction. The one I remember hating most is the "How old are you? 10, why? Oh well, here's to seeing you in 8 years!" Come the frick on. Gay.
Played it for the first time this year. I was too worried about missable things, so I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I should. Overall I'd say I liked it, but my experience was diluted.
>I was too worried about missable things, so I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I should.
the same thing happens to me, always feel like i'm missing something or playing/building my characters suboptimally
wish i could just lobotomize myself or something so i can experience games normally
it looks and sounds great, but that's it. I played through the game only once while I replayed FFV at least six times. I also revisit romancing saga more
>Random stats boosted randomly instead of level ups >Has level scaling anyway
I really really want to like saga frontier but it's just garbage unfortunately
I've played and owned every ff up until 12, and I recently played the saga games. I can't believe I passed them up. I think my favorite saga game is saga frontier 3
SaGa is diametrically opposite to FF, it's a system heavy series focused on experimenting with everything from gameplay to narrative instead of putting all of their money into graphics and cutscenes.
If you like games like FF1/2 and maybe 5 then you might like SaGa, if you like the recent Octopath games but want more depth from them then you also might like SaGa, but you'll never know until you actually try, both Frontier or Romancing SaGa 3 are good starting points for a newcomer.
it's remastered, but personally I like the original versions better. you can emulate them for free with a psx emu
https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/saga-frontier-remastered-switch/
if anyone here likes the original final fantasy games I highly recommend playing the saga games. they're hard, and extremely awesome. multiple endings. they're adult level games
I still don't understand how people can say the pixel remasters of the SNES games look better than the originals. There's no fricking shading or detail in the character sprites compared to the original versions and they didn't even bother upscaling the backgrounds in battles.
How's the PSP version of FF1+2? Since I already have it I figured it might be better than buying the Pixel Remaster or emulating another version, but don't know how much it differs from the others besides art style.
I just now, after nearly 30 years realized that's supposed to be a caterpillar and the little nubs are it's legs and not cancerous malformations sagging off it's chest
Best of the 2D Final Fantasy games. Some of the best graphics and music for a JRPG too until Chrono Trigger came along and blew everything else out of the water.
My order of RPGs as a kid was, in this order: Final Fantasy I - Dragon Warrior I - Final Fantasy fricking 6. My mind was broken by how radically advanced everything seemed. How the frick I missed 4's release is beyond me.
Surprised you didn't get fooled into playing Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. It has to be one of the greatest troll names in all of vidya. Suckered a lot of folks into buying/renting that turd back in the day. Littered bargain bins for years afterwards too lol.
Dragon Warrior was my first JRPG but I never played Final Fantasy 1 until the first remake. My uncle was a hardcore Sega guy so I got to play all the cool shit like Phantasy Star 2 and Lunar as well as FF6 around the same time.
By the time you get that strong you just block most magic and shrug off what you can't. Runic is only useful early to mid game.
Edgar and Sabin are the best characters actually.
Sabin can hit 9999 damage long before anyone else
Tools carry hard, have phys damage, mag damage, actually apply status ailments, ect ect. In the narshe fight you can put Edgar solo and just bio blast everything.
Their character development is too notch too (as far as 6 goes anyway)
9999 to any boss the second you get the falcon every turn as long as you don't suck. Sabin has good speed stat too. And tools falling off late game doesn't matter because all the characters can break the game late game anyway. Performance in mid game is what shines the most before everyone gets samey. It's better than steal sketch or runic by a long shot. Also Edgar gets access to all the best gear and can easily transition into your genji offering bot
Too many people afraid of trying things. Making sure to fight pteradons on the narshe river so you can get fireball is key till better rages open up

Fireball is good for AoE but you can't beat good ole reliable Cat Scratch.

>pteradons on the narshe river so you can get fireball is key
wind slash from guard leader (or marshall depending on which translation) is better, doesn't have the damage split from being multi-target
Yeah, I love the game’s atmosphere and music, it’s genuinly a beautiful game with strong story moments, but the actual gameplay regarding combat and character builds is frankly boring and really hinders replayability. It’s literally just >spam good character abilities like Edgar’s tools and Sabin’s Blitzes (which get REALLY boring to input and watch) >…until you get osmosis and good attack magic, then it’s just magic spam until Kefka død
It’s not even funny how much more fun something like FFV is to replay, when you have so much more room for messing around with jobs.
>There is no main character in FF6.
As much as they tried that angle there kinda is. Terra and Celes are more important than any of the other characters. There could be no plot without them.
if you max out every character on ff6 the only one with a pure difference is celes.
I've been playing and beating this game since I was like, 10, and I never knew Celes could do that in the Kefka fight, mostly cause i never used her. Guess I'm gonna have to do another playtheough eventually.
I fricked these games so hard I'm just saying what I've found out. it's not my fault you're an oblivious ignoramus. I'm not going to show you my notes. you don't deserve it.

Not true. Edgar was a member of the Returners so its possible that he would eventually start a war with the empire and then the esper plot would continue on from there.
I remember when the "Ultra 64" tech demo screenshots were posted in gaming mags for FF6. Never got to see it in motion until it was posted on the internet.

We're talking about Battlefront you Celes-obsessed weirdo.
FF6 is technically a multiplayer game as you can assign a 2P to control character slots. I bet FF6 PR removed that shit.
FF6 had a really awesome way of changing the colors of menus and text. I bet that shit was killed in FF6 PR.
Anyone want to confirm?
Presentation wise and story wise it's really good.
But I don't like the "skill" system, it's very barebones especially compared to the previous game which had fantastic party building mechanics. It's still a great game. But a more solid skill/magic system would make me replay it more.
Mog always has a soft spot in my heart. Making a mog gau umaro gogo team and just putting down the controller is fun. Plus mog and umaro get that scarf the let's build to absorb (I think) all elements.
>OST
that's the worst sin, many of the tracks are absolutely butchered
It feels like the redone soundtracks started off strong in I, II, III, but by IV weird stuff started to creep into the odd track and then VI's in particular really falls apart
IV's soundtrack revamp was mostly fine but the regular boss theme has this moment where in the original there's a pause as the song "re-arms" for another loop, and in the revamped version there's this ugly bouncing horn sound over the blank air instead. Completely ruins the flow.
No, I think it's a terrible game, one of the worst in the franchise and in the genre overall. I could not point to a single thing in the game and say "this makes the game worth playing", everything about it is half-baked, underdeveloped, barely functional. The ATB system remains an abysmally bad feature, the character special abilities are either overpowered to the point of making the game mindless or are completely fricking useless, the esper system is possibly the worst character customization system I have ever seen in a game, the encounter rate is sky high, the only version of the game that doesn't look like shit is filled with bugs, and the story is just a wild goose chase that ping-pongs schizophrenically from one tonal extreme to another with no attempt at cohesion. The game is so bad that I cannot understand why someone would possibly claim otherwise, other than that they played it when they were a young child and had their mind blown by seeing the credits scrolling in the intro because it looked kind of like a movie was playing on their SNES, and they decided there and then that it must be the best game ever made and have not been willing or able to apply any level of critical thought to the game in the decades since. Either that or they're someone to whom those people have evangelized the game and they actually fell for it because they have little/no other experience with the genre.
One of my favorite things about ff6 is the extent to which you can customize the menu backgrounds. Every time I got a new character I'd spend at least an hour creating a custom menu for them that matched their color scheme. No other jrpg has ever reached that level of menu customization.
While there is an old FF thread up, I will vent.
I've been killing this homosexual in Kain's tale for like a week straight and i can't get the god damn gray tail to drop.
Am I missing something?
In the snes game it was determined right as your characters started doing the victory pose, but you needed to move the rng if you wanted a different result, so you would save state before the last attack and try different actions until you got the drop. In the snes version it rolls to see if an enemy drops anything at all, then does a separate roll to see what item is dropped
The question was "how does the drop system work in ff4" not "how does the drop system work in the after years"

It does but at the same time 90% of the fanbase hasn't touched another game outside of XIV so it's all lost on them. The amount of people that think XIV created the crystal tower is staggering
Exdeath >Wears badass armor all the ladies love >Strikes fear wherever he goes >His lair is made of human flesh >Has Gilgamesh, one of the biggest chads in the series, at his beck and call. >Has an evil plan so good, Nintendo ripped it off wholesale for the Subspace Emissary >Turns himself into a splinter >Fights a turtle. >Final fight is a good challenge

Im thinking about buying the final fantasy bundle I-VI, should i get with switch, pc or PS? i thin switch is better bc i can play them in my work or commute
I like the overarching plot and the mid-game twist, but it does feel like most party members don't get enough screentime and the party lacks a sense of "togetherness", most of them barely, if ever interact because of how big the cast is.
Personally, I hate it. One of my least favorites. That being said, I think it's well put together, and while I have a small video-essay sized rant about the gameplay, ultimately I just dislike the more Shakespearean take for the story, with an ensemble cast of like 10+ characters. I tend to prefer more centralized leads, like in Dragon Quest or Legend of Zelda.

But i can totally get why this would be someone's favorite childhood game, its just not something i could get through at this stage in my life when i already played so many other games that did all the things FF6 did, i feel like i already played the game and i don't feel like going through that again
4 has a okay plot with bad tropes too many YOU THOUGHT I DIED HUH moments and Golbez getting turned into a dindu was stupid as frick but uses its gameplay to tell the story in interesting ways
I guess the problem is you had to rely on contrivances to have different characters in your party so you get these "whoopsie I'm in a coma/dead but not really/fell in the ocean so I have to leave your party" moments to swap in new characters.
it damages the story sadly and makes most emotional moments weaker. Tellah still works because his happens as a death early on so the overuse of the trope hasn't worn in yet and he actually fricking dies.
>job restrictions
On the contrary, FF4 feels like a mod of FF3 but with job restrictions, as in, the jobs you get are decided by the plot and you can't choose at all.
It's still better than III which only gives you the illusion of choice with many jobs just becoming invalid as you play through the game >time for a mini dungeon, better make those physical fighters play as a mage now so they aren't useless >time for the final dungeon, you'll be using sage and ninja because everything else is underpowered and useless here
At least in IV there's a reason for your party composition and it doesn't feel so arbitrary
>At least in IV there's a reason for your party composition and it doesn't feel so arbitrary
Because your party is entirely chosen for you, all you do is buy them the best equipment available.
In 3 you actually have to stop and rethink your party configuration and figure out what's the best party for the next dungeon. Almost every job gets its time to shine, and you are rewarded with better jobs as you progress. You're looking at it as if it was supposed to be like the job system in V, which was made with an entirely different philosophy where every job is equal and viable, when in reality it's an evolution of FF1, where your jobs are replaced by others midgame. Up to you whether you prefer a game that gives you freedom of choice or one that encourages trying out different jobs to progress, but in any case either of them is better than 4 where you don't have to think about your party at all.
It was the 2nd FF I played, the first being 2, but it was the one that hooked me. Loved all the characters, loved how Kefka 'won' halfway thru the game, and just everything about it. Still my favorite FF. I wish it'd get a remake in 3d and show off more of the world. Hell, 2.5d remake would be okay as well.
My god this thread is absolutely terrible. Just ESLs and morons writing meaningless five word posts back and forth to eachother. Guess that's the kind of person who enjoys this utterly shit game.
Slight spoiler ahead Later on you get to equip Magicite to a character, and each Magicite will add +1/+2 to a specific stat on each level up, so just give him a Magicite that increases magic as early as you can and you're golden
The main catch is Sabin's (Mash's) best moves are
1. mostly single-target
2. target enemies at random when more than one are in a battle
This can frick you over on the occasion. He has a couple of AoEs, but they're mostly mediocre.
I'm pretty sure he does not actually have the true water rune.
What is your evidence of this?
Anonymous
kage owns the true water ruin in the first game. you moron.
Anonymous
No he literally doesn't.
The True Water Rune doesn't appear in the series until Suikoden 3.
Anonymous
yeah he does. where do you think christ gets it from in 3?
Anonymous
She gets it from the sealed shrine. Not from Kage.
And Chris' father had it before he sealed it in the shrine.
I would really like for you to post screencap or something that shows Kage with the TWR.
Because you are full of shit.
I loved it as a kid, with it being the first RPG I ever put enough effort into to beat.
Yeah
>wide hips
>leotard
>long blond hair
>big ol breasts
It's not possible to create a sexier character.
>Tfw we will never get her leotard if a remake ever comes out

IV isnt HORRIBLE per se but certainly much much less mechanically/essentially interesting than DQ4 and 5. Final Fantasy didnt get special until VI for sure
>Final Fantasy didnt get special until V for sure

>can do nothing else while casting runic
Dumb
Artist?
literally first result on saucenao ya lazy puke
Suck a bag of dicks, you fricking homosexual.
Uh guys the command prompt is writing rude messages at me about my programmer socks what the frick.
Take your socks off and show feet
>mogs terra in every way
Its like they decided to make an ugly main character on purpose
celes was raped before that half breed.
>celes my broken wife
>Mystic bird thing of prophecy, tell me your secrets.
>Invade the Empire. Imperial Pogrom.
Wow the pixel remaster is ugly.
this moron isnt using the classic font for some reason. legit improves the aesthetics of the game like 5x (i mean its a lot of text)
Sorry, but even the classic font isn't good enough.
Do you have an example of it? Hate the ugly ass Arial font
>it
There are several different font replacements. Here's the one I use.
That doesn't look too bad. Thanks, I might consider getting the collection at some point now
Oh wait shit are you talking about the console version? That actually does have a built-in alternate font. Here ya go.
I was thinking of the PC version. I never knew it had alternate fonts, thought you were stuck with the shitty default one
what sucks about ff6 is once you hit the dinosaur forest and level every character up, is that every character is the same except for celes. she has the ability to block Kefkas magic. celes is the only unique character battle wise.
Yeah, in 6-8 every character is basically the same because they call all do the same stuff (Eidolens in FF6, Equipping Materia in 7, Drawing Magic and Summons in 8) The only difference is their stats. That's why I loved the return to the classic style in 9 where everyone has their own unique Job.
you've never fully played 8. squall can literally be a card master, frick every city, and use Diablo to change your shit into super hard to find components for your weapons. never read tember mechanics?
I just spammed summons and magic the whole game.
do the card game and get GFs as soon as you can. you can get Diablo before ifrit. Diablo does 1/2, and 1/3 damage. that moronic can't kill you with demi. Diablo can't take you past 1hp.
>renzokuken.
it's a test to just jump off the cliff
I spent about 2 months finally making an faq for ff8 on psp. I never published it though
>in depth
Just put it up on gamefaqs, why the hell not
>It's not that easy these days is it
those transvestite homos will never pay me
the best way to beat ff8 is with one hp
>FF8 is actually good!
>...provided you do this, engage in the card game for 20 hours, grind these specific items and draw, calculate next year's taxes, dig up the Oak Island treasure, solve world hunger, and take first in a triathlon.
>I swear its fun! You just didn't fully "play" it like I did.
Game is shit and so are you for trying to trick poor gullible Anon into playing it. For shame.
final fantasy 4 is actually my favorite you wiener sucker
you don't need to do any of those things and doing so ruins the game
just refine shit that drops and learn good commands like mad rush
it has a filter that looks way way better that he isn't using
Played it for the first time recently after playing through the previous 5 pixel remasters, I like it. I can't imagine what it would have been like to experience back in the day though, it's such a step up from what the games were like on the NES. Easier too, but way less aggravating.
i hate how fast the weapon swing effect is compared to 5 i wanna see those sexy sword pixels
Not really. even with the massive roster and the unique abilities none of the characters are cool or that fun to use. music is good
i used to think it was super overrated, but playing the pixel remaster collection now i understand how bland most jrpgs were until then.
REALLY hate FFIV now instead because that game is just the blandest you can get without being like literally FFI or II.
Honestly the 3ds remake of 4 is the best way to play it. The augment system opens up the combat and customization just enough to make it engaging.
you're fricking gay, dude. psp is the best
3ds remake of IV is ugly as shit.
2d>3d.
they best version best to psx anthology is the psp version of 4.
>Sonygays thinking their 10+ second loading times for each random battle is superior
If it's not on a cart, it's not a good FF game.
based nintendo grandfathering 7,8,9, 10 and 12 into the good FF club
What made Sonygays the most bitter for a game going multiplat that was originally exclusive for them?
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 7
Dark Souls
Persona 5
Feel free to add in new challengers

Which Final Fantasy plays best on Nintendo Switch? As a definitive play through?
FF3 Pixel Remaster
4 doesn't even look or sound good enough to dismiss the augment and newgame + system of the 3ds version. I like 4, I still have my SNES cartridge somewhere, but it's true.
IV is very obviously a NES game that got brought forward to SNES. It's most apparent with how they try to animate characters in the cutscenes
I think you can genuinely tell all of the NES->SNES transition era games simply by their color palette. You can just see them NOT playing around with the new colors and just making things slightly clearer. It feels like those games have a sort of early brown n' bloom filter on them.
The augment + new game+ isn't reason enough to deal with the shitty 3d graphics.
free enterprise solves the issue with 4's replayability
i played it for the first time recently, 1MP Ultima spam is fun
i was watching a ff6 speedrun while my (ex)gf fricked one of her class mates.
Ey yo its me Tyrone. Yo ex b***h was fine yo and had a dam nice ass. Keep playin them asian dragon slayin games white boi
My first FF was 7
>the PC version still doesn't have the qol improvements of the switch version
Makes me mad as frick
yeah but at least you can easily mod it to get the font that is even better than the one they give you for switch
There are differences in the releases of the remaster?
Just the PC version vs the console versions as far as I know.
Oh I see. For some reason, I thought the remaster was released on consoles first.
>tfw I still have the uncensored PS1 copy
The only people who say 6 is their favorite are 35 year olds who were too poor in the 1990's to afford a playstation and sour grapes'd hard as frick over FF7
FF7 is casual movie trash - that's literally their own admission for why the went to Sony - so anyone who says 7 is, is just a moron who wants to be part of something popular.
5 is factually the best most soulful one and everything else was downhill from there.
FF5 is the best is the new bandwagon
Yeah, that decade old bandwagon of people replaying it every summer.
I'm not saying people don't like it, it's a great game. However around here nobody talked about it until a couple years ago when a bunch of people started claiming it was the best. That's all.
>a couple years ago
People have been saying for a long time.
Whater you say man.
>The only people who say 6 is their favorite are 35 year olds who were too poor in the 1990's to afford a playstation and sour grapes'd hard as frick over FF7
I'm actually 35 (birthday was yesterday) and it's my favorite. But I got a Playstation so I could play FFVII when it came out, and loved that too
You filthy traitor, I hate you!
I'm in my late 20s and 6 is my favorite.
I'm 39 and got FF6 the week it came out, and later got FF7 the week after it came out. My favorite was and still is 6.
Isn't it weird how different people have different tastes and opinions?
Fake and gay. No westerners even played FF until 7 came out.
my first was the very first game because my family got an NES and SNES as hand me downs before the PS1 came out
Come on Black person. At least say FF8. I never bought FF7 for PSX because graphics were laughable and looked like LEGO bricks.
>I don't like lego
kys. I'm ashamed I'm on the same board as you
>lego shill
KYS, troony israelite
bite my lego, c**t.
I'm 37 and I had more fun with 8 than 7, but my favorite is final fantasy 4.
but FF6 came to the playstation?
yeah. in the United states it was a box set included with ff5 and it was called
>final fantasy anthology
it had ff5 and 6 with the ost soundtrack cd. highly recommend
PSX version of FF6 is pretty trash. It has some nasty lag and load times.
it's still closest to the original if you don't own a snes or super Famicom
Who DIDN'T own a SNES at the time?
And if you mean NOW, just emulate the SNES version.
the only game that didn't get a are release on psx was 3
>the only game that didn't get a re-release on psx was ff3
Released as 3 for us on the snes
It did, but I'm still waiting for the main menu to load after pressing the Triangle button some time ago.
Zoom zoom Black person
FF4 is my fav. I'm 34 but didn't play FF4 until I was 18 or so and it's still my favorite. I had played most other FFs that were out by then (including 11).
I'm 37. I love the classical gsme. I think it has the best storyline. did you play the psp version? it had the after years
NTA but FF4 on psp is the best version of the game.
I agree. I have the original port on psx, but it is way better on psp
That wasn't out yet. I played the PS1 version. I started playing it at like 5pm one afternoon and had finished it by the next day. Too good. The ds version came out later that summer and I played and beat that too.
DS version of FF4 looks like trash.
The original was miles better imo, but it was neat seeing that 2d world in the (albeit weird) 3d shortly after playing it.
the only ds game I had was 3. I played all of them before it, but my mom knew I didn't own it because it was never released in the United States ever I like the pixel version the best of ff3
cicel is bad ass
>rip twins
jokes on you i'm 36 and played FF7 on PC a few months after it came out on playstation
39 here, had a PS1 and bought ff7 the day it came out (worked during summer through my school)
Ff6 is still my favorite
36 here. did you rent fft?
I'm late 20s, I played the GBA version
I'm 40 and bought 6 (or FFIII as they called it in the West but you youngsters wouldn't know that) and 7, and I still do prefer 6 to 7. 4 was actually what got me into the series, but looking back it doesn't hold up that well.
I'm 41 and I loved 6 because you could co-op that shit. It's a weird thing to think about actually but as a kid it was fun. I played 7 on release. Like both games for entirely different reasons. But also I've been playing since FF1 so whatever.
I've never forgotten this ad. I remember the first time I saw it and how weird it was. I remember the Secret of Evermore ads too. It wasn't until 7 that marketing dollars finally started getting spent.
FFVI is also on Play Station, zoomoid.
Yup I love taking 10 minutes to load the menu or a battle.
The last good version of these games were the TOSE ones.
This is just soulless trash with less content.
It's the last single-digit FF game I haven't played yet. Is the FF remastered a good version of it? Was thinking of getting the physical for Switch.
The best version is GBA with sound/color patches
Yeah it's alright
Without getting mega autistic the best ways to play the game are probably the fan-patched SNES version or the Pixel Remaster with a mod for a better text font
Mod in the old sprites and old overworld backgrounds. Both are the top mods on nexus and just involve dragging it into the folder. Pixel remaster without the mod is so bright the actual atmosphere of the game feels different.
spellblade faris in the pixel remaster is the best variant
Pixel Remaster is fricking disgusting.
NES FF1 had some slight differences between each class, but the remaster just gives them all the same exact pose.
>The PSP sprites
Vomit
>FFV
>All characters look forward except that dopey b***h
Didn't realize the pixel remaster gave Relm a facelift.
wow, Gestahl doesn't look like a dog in the and/ios/pc (old) version
6 pr is miles better than snes which i know is the unpopular opinion.
soul vs souless blah blah blah but objectively the snes sprites colors are really ugly and look like they were even more detailed but were hurriedly scrunched down to fit into the pixel resolution
The middle one is the best.
A good game with a really really obnoxious fanbase
Yeah
I haven't played it in like 20 years but I do remember liking it a lot so yeah.
Love it. Been playing it for the first time recently and its pretty great. Different feel than other games even FFVII but quality all the same. You have to be willing to accept some obtuse progression but other than that its solid.
Yeah. It's my favorite FF, followed by IV and VII.
> Oh, Locke. Could it be that you're craving my MoogNuggies?
It room until just now for me to realize that Mog doesn't have a little Spanish mustache, and what I thought was his frown his in fact his shoulder.
Yes, I am moronic.
The ad campaign for the game was so odd. They tried to make Mog (!) into this smug, cool badass with 'tude. Didn't exactly take hold.
I prefer 4
I like final fantasy SEX
No, JRPGs are a dogshit genre that should've died in the PS2 era.
Their "fans" are some of the most voracious weeb shit eaters though so they're unfortunately still around
i prefer 5
Yeah it's fun
I should compile the translations across every release of FF6 between Relm and Edgar and their single moment of interaction. The one I remember hating most is the "How old are you? 10, why? Oh well, here's to seeing you in 8 years!" Come the frick on. Gay.
do it, sounds interesting
I love that kind of shit. Do it.
I really liked the Brave New World mod. Makes every character unique, makes Espers feel fun to use.
T-edition is dumb because nothing changes until WoR.
I also revisit romancing saga more
I have no reason to replay any of the final fantasy games before VII, since that was when the series started getting good.
If I like Final Fantasy, can I play SaGa? Where do I start with SaGa? 1, Minstrel song? 3? Frontier?
How do you feel about Final Fantasy II?
Your answer will determine if you'll like SaGa.
>Random stats boosted randomly instead of level ups
>Has level scaling anyway
I really really want to like saga frontier but it's just garbage unfortunately
Start with RS3 or SaGa Frontier
Did SaGa games ever get a remaster or some other non-gameboy release?
SaGa 1 has a Wonderswan remaster
SaGa 2 and 3 both have DS remakes.
yeah. they're on switch
it's remastered, but personally I like the original versions better. you can emulate them for free with a psx emu
https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/saga-frontier-remastered-switch/
The originals are gameboy games not psx.
the best saga frontier games are on psx.
He's talking about the original GB trilogy, there's more to SaGa than just the Frontier duology.
I know. I'm just saying from my experience that the psx games are the most challenging, and fun. just my opinion. I the they're more refined
Both Frontier games are known to be some of the easiest in the series though.
3 is my personal favorite
There's no SF3, you might want to drop the act now.
NTA but did you ever think he meant SaGa 3?
I was going to answer to you but
, clearly somebody is off their meds.
saga frontier 3 exists moron
I'd post images but my ip is banned
if anyone here likes the original final fantasy games I highly recommend playing the saga games. they're hard, and extremely awesome. multiple endings. they're adult level games
I could never finish it. It was really shallow, with threadbare mechanics.
Only FF1 is good
Back when everyone thought it was really the final fantasy.
Its decent from what I hear. Not sure if they have extras from the GBA games though.
fine, but like every FF1 remake (except PR) they replace spell charges with MP which ruins everything
Love it.
So much better in terms of detail and colors compared to the pixel remaster. How could anybody say the port is better?
I just now, after nearly 30 years realized that's supposed to be a caterpillar and the little nubs are it's legs and not cancerous malformations sagging off it's chest
Yeah it was fun.
its the last true Final Fantasy game, so yes
9 is the last true one and everybody knows it.
>9 is the last true one
This except 10 with JP voice mod.
I wish I want banned from posting images or else I'd post
>スティルツキン
nest hero in ff9
I wish you would actually get banned. You are annoying as frick.
I'm just talking... what's your deal?
>I'm just spamming
ftfy
Played PR. It was alright. Most nonlinear FF I've played so I used a guide
yes
Best of the 2D Final Fantasy games. Some of the best graphics and music for a JRPG too until Chrono Trigger came along and blew everything else out of the water.
I cant unsee it.
It's actually very difficult for me to make myself see it. My IQ must be too high, sorry.
You may be autistic, anon. Or maybe he is. Hard to say.
NTA but everyone here is autistic. Even you.
Actually I am the most non-autistic person in this board
a non autistic person would never say that.
That sounds like something an autist would say.
you mean "least autistic"
it's OK to be moronic anon. we all like these original games.
not with that unfitting ui i don't
two best girls in the final fantasy franchise is celes and tifa
My uncle was a hardcore Sega guy so I got to play all the cool shit like Phantasy Star 2 and Lunar as well as FF6 around the same time.
that's actually a good game. too bad it's only an hour long
This. Watching the bosses fall apart as you kicked the shit out of em was kino. Also using the weapon as tools to solve puzzles was comfy.
it's a good first game for kids. then give them mega man game, and see how they do
It's very, very good. But also overrated
Kefka is also very good, but also overrated
Celes is a badly written character
yeah it was fun. It really gets good at the floating continent imo, before that it was kind of meh
you ff6 fan's need to max out every character. you know in your heart celes has the only unique ability in that game. she's a life saver
>everyone can hit 9999 damage
>celes can block all magic
By the time you get that strong you just block most magic and shrug off what you can't. Runic is only useful early to mid game.
Edgar and Sabin are the best characters actually.
>edgar and sabin
explain
always thought it was terra>celes>locke>mog/edgar/gau etc etc
Sabin can hit 9999 damage long before anyone else
Tools carry hard, have phys damage, mag damage, actually apply status ailments, ect ect. In the narshe fight you can put Edgar solo and just bio blast everything.
Their character development is too notch too (as far as 6 goes anyway)
>only 9999 once on one target
>tools which fall off after midgame
oh it's nothing
9999 to any boss the second you get the falcon every turn as long as you don't suck. Sabin has good speed stat too. And tools falling off late game doesn't matter because all the characters can break the game late game anyway. Performance in mid game is what shines the most before everyone gets samey. It's better than steal sketch or runic by a long shot. Also Edgar gets access to all the best gear and can easily transition into your genji offering bot
Everyone always overlooks the actual most powerful character: Gau
Too many people afraid of trying things. Making sure to fight pteradons on the narshe river so you can get fireball is key till better rages open up
Fireball is good for AoE but you can't beat good ole reliable Cat Scratch.
Also its the cornerstone of Wind God Gau.
>pteradons on the narshe river so you can get fireball is key
wind slash from guard leader (or marshall depending on which translation) is better, doesn't have the damage split from being multi-target
sabine is my favorite character in ff6
>Do you like final fantasy 6?
I think it is one of the more boring games in the series. The combat is just dull. Edgar is just crossbow spam.
Yeah, I love the game’s atmosphere and music, it’s genuinly a beautiful game with strong story moments, but the actual gameplay regarding combat and character builds is frankly boring and really hinders replayability. It’s literally just
>spam good character abilities like Edgar’s tools and Sabin’s Blitzes (which get REALLY boring to input and watch)
>…until you get osmosis and good attack magic, then it’s just magic spam until Kefka død
It’s not even funny how much more fun something like FFV is to replay, when you have so much more room for messing around with jobs.
my favorite characters are Locke, Sabine, cyan, and celes.
>majority shout out to Edgar
5 doesn't have that much customization, barely more than 3. Job customization wasn't really all that engaging until tactics.
>Edgar is just crossbow spam.
Did you have fun in the tutorial zone?
>main character
There is no main character in FF6.
>There is no main character in FF6.
As much as they tried that angle there kinda is. Terra and Celes are more important than any of the other characters. There could be no plot without them.
celes is the most important character. she's the only one who can block Kefkas attacks at the end of the game.
>runic
I've been playing and beating this game since I was like, 10, and I never knew Celes could do that in the Kefka fight, mostly cause i never used her. Guess I'm gonna have to do another playtheough eventually.
she has the only ability to block Kefkas final attack
use her runic blade
Celes is extremely powerful
if you max out every character on ff6 the only one with a pure difference is celes.
You've been saying this the entire thread but are you so shit at the game that you need Celes' Runic ability during the final fight?
I fricked these games so hard I'm just saying what I've found out. it's not my fault you're an oblivious ignoramus. I'm not going to show you my notes. you don't deserve it.
This smells more like a waifugay.
leave quistis out of this
not that guy but thanks for reminding me I'm probably the only person stupid enough to play ff8 as intended and not abusing the hilariously abusable junction system, quistis, cards, or like five other fricking things you could do to break the game wide open.
There I was, with [random] rules spreading and using default GF settings and actually levelling like a fricking fool.
I was so unsatisfied with game faq walkthroughs with ff8 I made my own, and I learned some mechanics nobody will talk about online. especially how important card rules are thought the disks
Not true. Edgar was a member of the Returners so its possible that he would eventually start a war with the empire and then the esper plot would continue on from there.
Bio blaster is better than the crossbow and it actually applies poison to boot
Yes but not that shitty version of it.
Yeah, why doesn't 6 get a proper remake? That would be actually interesting compared to a 9 Remake
I remember when the "Ultra 64" tech demo screenshots were posted in gaming mags for FF6. Never got to see it in motion until it was posted on the internet.
That demo was running off a PC
That PC was the big brother of the N64 and sort of a dev unit. Which is why Squaresoft made the demo.
It's kino.
Why where these homosexuals to cheap to license some nice fonts? Its fricking awful
they only cared about jp font
WHY DID THE STEAM VERSION OF PIXEL REMAKE NOT GET THE SAME FEATURES THAT CONSOLE DID?
Because Pixel Remasters were shit.
I think you answered your own question
1-6 on psx were really good. it even had a bonus game
>chrono trigger
>1-6 on psx were really good
someone's forgetting the load times on 456
also no 3
3 didn't come out in the states until the 3d Gameboy game. if you're going to buy a pixel game buy 3
1 is the best NES game, 5 best SNES. All of the PS1 games are flawed, but I like 7's music so it gets the edge. 11 is the best PS2 game.
the best online PS2 games was battlefront you fricking pleb
Why do people jerk off Battlefront so much? The game wasn't that good.
you just didn't have an internet connection back then because you were poor, or some stupid kid
Battlefront isn't even the best star wars game let alone the best PS2 online game.
we're talking about the PS2 network adapter right?
Unless you know of some other way to play online with ps2?
well the game is totally moded now for pc, but I don't want to go off topic and calling you all stupid for not knowing celes is the most powerful character in ff6 end game
We're talking about Battlefront you Celes-obsessed weirdo.
my high ranking profile death trooper would beg to differ
No. Tried it after 7/8/9, it was a chore to play. And it looked overaged.
I hate FFgays that started with 7. They are such homosexuals.
FF6 is technically a multiplayer game as you can assign a 2P to control character slots. I bet FF6 PR removed that shit.
FF6 had a really awesome way of changing the colors of menus and text. I bet that shit was killed in FF6 PR.
Anyone want to confirm?
what's cool about that game is you can take turns playing story lines between friends. my favorite storyline is lockes
Cyan's storyline is one of my favorites but sadly he is unquestionably the worst character in 6 :/
I know it sucks. Sabine is say better.
used to T-Edition where his swdtech is much faster but in vanilla I usually pair him with Gau and or Umaro to somewhat make up for it
myself end game is
>Locke
>Sabine
>cyan
>celes
Presentation wise and story wise it's really good.
But I don't like the "skill" system, it's very barebones especially compared to the previous game which had fantastic party building mechanics. It's still a great game. But a more solid skill/magic system would make me replay it more.
I liked discovering the Gau Sketch glitch.
Didn't realize it could wipe save files, but it was amusing all the same.
I think of ff6, I think of this. Idk why but the aesthetic of this commercial makes me want to play it in that setting.
It looks so cozy.
nobody likes mog anymore, or the best moogle knight Kupok. he is forgotten.
Praise Kutan
he gave his life for us
Mog always has a soft spot in my heart. Making a mog gau umaro gogo team and just putting down the controller is fun. Plus mog and umaro get that scarf the let's build to absorb (I think) all elements.
Yes, but not the Pixel Remaster. Shit is garbage even with mods. 80% of spells look worse, the OST is hit and miss. No good shader options. Nah.
>OST
that's the worst sin, many of the tracks are absolutely butchered
It feels like the redone soundtracks started off strong in I, II, III, but by IV weird stuff started to creep into the odd track and then VI's in particular really falls apart
IV's soundtrack revamp was mostly fine but the regular boss theme has this moment where in the original there's a pause as the song "re-arms" for another loop, and in the revamped version there's this ugly bouncing horn sound over the blank air instead. Completely ruins the flow.
Yes.
any final fantasy original fan itt shouldn't pass up the saga frontier games, just because they're difficult. they're fulfilling
Is the the jrpg equivalent of the Nabokov pasta?
One of my favorite things about ff6 is the extent to which you can customize the menu backgrounds. Every time I got a new character I'd spend at least an hour creating a custom menu for them that matched their color scheme. No other jrpg has ever reached that level of menu customization.
I'd post some sweet images of beating these games, but mods are gays and I'm banned. kind of bums me out
While there is an old FF thread up, I will vent.
I've been killing this homosexual in Kain's tale for like a week straight and i can't get the god damn gray tail to drop.
Am I missing something?
more like gay tail
I agree.
How does the FF4 drop system work anyway?
Do I just get the drop of the first monster i kill, the last, what?
Desire sensor wired to a special chip in the NES cartridge that just has POLYBIUS written on it.
There is no SNES version of The After Years.
it's in psp
The question was "how does the drop system work in ff4" not "how does the drop system work in the after years"
Did none of you bother to look at the pic posted?
beat the frick out of the original game, but I played it on psx, and I finished it on psp. you're a lousy homosexual. I'm still banned from posting pictures just incase I hurt you you stupid homosexual.
Why do you fricking say that in every god damn post?
Its like your using a trip you giant homosexual.
did play the original final fantasy games?
All of them. Now frick off.
did you not play it? in after years you played as Cecil's kid l
WiiWare version is the SNES version.
No it isn't. WiiWare version uses different loot calculations which is why its possible to do rng manip and get guaranteed drops.
And it uses the most similar graphics and still has abuseable RNG
I still have the WiiWare version, I should play it again.
Because it has the best sprites.
>wiiware sprites
>better than psp
You're high.
>Thinking that flaming pile of shit that is the PSP sprites are good
>Let along the best
How much lead paint did you drink?
For FF4? Yes psp is the best.
I know you aren't being serious. that's why I don't belive you
you're free to go
Literally the only plus to playing the wiiware version is the rng shenanigans you can pull to get guaranteed drops.
And better looking graphics.
You can argue about the 3D models for the DS and PC version, but the PSP was a total shitshow.
Now I know you are shitposting.
The psp has better graphics than the wiiware version.
PSP looks like shit, unless you think more colors equals better.
Which is wrong.
No I think more pixels looks better.
The psp sprites are higher quality.
And look much worse, I see you're one of those sad graphic gays.
There's a reason the Pixel Remaster based it off the original and not the PSP version.
The pixel remasters are all shit.
Not a single one of them is actually good.
And they cut all the bonus content that other re-releases had.
Because they're based on the best version, the original.
Tells you how little Square thinks of the PSP and Ios versions.
Everyone complained about Square cutting bonus content in the PR.
I'm 100% convinced you are just shitposting at this point.
Last (you) from me on this subject.
I accept your surrender
>Am I missing something?
Yeh a gray tail
long live relic queen
rip celes. she was the best character in ff6
suck my balls
it's aight
>Only Ceres is truly unique
>Every character has their own special ability
I’m playing right now. it’s pretty remarkable how little hand holding old games did. you’re just thrown into the world and told to go. I like it a lot
That's how they got you to buy strategy guides.
That's a myth.
Everything you need to know is in the manual.
If you're not moronic you can just make your own notes
If you're not moronic you'll always read the manual before playing the game.
The manual didn't tell you about missables, secret bosses and special quests.
>The manual didn't tell you about the stuff you're supposed to find out by playing the damn game
zoomzoom
Despite what people tell you about the past, there were plenty of people who had more money than time to spend on a video game.
It wouldn't.
Yea and the strategy guides detailed everything the developers put in the game. Also, extra artwork.
If you needed to buy the strategy guide you were 80IQ.
give owned tons of physical strategy guides. they're missing a ton of stuff. they're untrustworthy
>give owned tons of physical strategy guides
I've tried parsing this sentence like 10 times.
What the frick were you trying to say?
I made my own strategy guide, but i wrote it in pencil about 14 years ago. only thing left in my ff8 guimdhv8de is my pen world map
I'd post pictures of my 100% key strategy for beating ff8, but mods have banned my ip for abusing it. whatever the frick that means
For once i agree with the mods. You spam FF8 shit too much.
no I don't. I'm a tifa poster, and I hate gays
if you're interested i also have a strategy guide on how Tifa is the strongest character in ff7. or we could talk about ramza..
>tifa strongest character based on numerical values
final heaven
ramza is an autist and it's so nice that his friend delita gave him something to do
sorry to inform you, but final fantasy tactics is the best final fantasy game ever made of all time. I'd rather be a hieratic, than wiener sucker. gay.
maybe the remake will finally have playable delita
>yell
>+1 frick you
Nobody cares what moronic rich kids think. Games were better when there were secret things to find and you only stumbled upon it the 2nd 3rd of 4th time through.
Of course not, why would it?
The manual tells you everything you need to know.
Those aren't things you need to know. They're secrets.
god bless the early internet for providing at least one autist who would be willing to write a 30,000 page document with bad ASCII art to tell me how to get the great garfunkel to drop his bunglegoop bullshit.
My first walkthrough was for a star trek game called a final unity and it had a bible quote after every part of the walkthrough.
kek why did gamefaqs Black folk love ASCII art so much
you fricking guiz want to play some tetra force? I'll put mog and mog Jr on the table...
It's ok. The cast is way too bloated with most of them being forgettable, but they thankfully fixed that in 7.
7 is overrated as frick and not even as good as 5 or 4.
The cast size is fine. It's a rebel faction, not everyone is gonna be big time superhero and even the bit part characters have some gimmick that makes them notable
I don't think most people would understand ff8 without playing it a few times
ff8 us like Akira in some ways
It’s good but I think nostalgia plays a part. I can see its merits, but as for it being the best FF.. nah.
That's because the best FF is 5.
I love final fantasy 6, I love espers way more than materia it just needs more choices on certain level ups for espers
I miss good final fantasy games
>you're ip is banned from posting yoshitaka amano art
huh?
Its one guy spamming the thread.
>I like touching the Excalibutt
gilgamesh kicks ass
some one post the original yoshitaka amano gilgamesh art
>buttz the fart master
>the name is buttz, b***h.
something mod here hates yoshitaka amano, and I'm tired of it. hate to break it to, but it's actually Ganker related
Sorry, anon. The only rules that apply are the ones mods enforce. Become one or GTFO.
they make up their own rules. I'm just glad I can evade their homosexualry
I've done nothing wrong except trying to help people control the ff8 card game
ramza is actually the best main character in all of the final fantasy games
I love all these games, but am I the only one who likes tactics the best?
>it post a picture, but I'm canceled
you guiz are lame and gay
It's good but not my favourite
>VII
>S tier
seem legit. 8 needs to be up higher too
>seem legit
Wrong. VII is easily B tier if you are not blinded by nostalgia.
I've played them all.. I've came to the conclusion that... you're a homosexual.
I have also played them all and 7 is not that good.
I'm literally sitting here praising tactics. do you honestly think I give a shit about 7 past the downed Shinra ship?
Yes.
No VIII is accurately placed
Haven't played tactics but no way in hell is IV S tier
you need to at least emulate the original tactics game. I'm not joking. it's really good
It's been in my backlog for a while but I've just never gotten around to it. Should I go PS1 or PSP
the advanced games are really good too
>FFTA games
>good
the first one is really good. quit being a handicapped homosexual. the job system is awesome
Face it, FFTA is only memorable because of the memes.
you're lucky I'm banned,or else is post something images
>or else is post something images
Are you also an ESL in addition to being a spamming homosexual?
frick off moron. I can't post images
You also can't post coherent sentences.
do you have roast beef in your concession stand? I'll accept a fat pig...
base game maybe, but every modded version of FFTA is pure gaming crack that holds up to rigorous modern standards of "game you can play for 1000 hours"
>modding
But that holds true for literally every game.
I can load up Zelda: A link to the past randomizer or Crystalis randomizer and play it over and over again.
yeah its great, you need a good base though can't just throw randomizer on barbie horse adventuer and expect kino
>I bequeath my cum to you, gay
Worth playing on an emulator. But if I could go back in time I wouldn't buy them again I don't think
if you have backup log on psp I'd recommend castlevania Rondo of blood. you can unlock the full symphony of the night game in it
It's really a toss up, but if you never played it before you might as well go war of the lions if you can be arsed to get the slowdown lag fix. Then again you would be just fine playing the OG and watching the cinematics from war of the lions on YouTube. The only gameplay difference is you can get luso and balthier in the war of lions version as it canonized tactics is actually the distant future of 12
I should probably give XII another shot too. Bored the hell out of me on my first playthrough but I think it's because I used gambits on myself like a fool
12 is ok, I like it better now than when it first came out because I can actually follow the story. Revenant wings did a LOT to flesh out the characters too but good luck ever finding that and the emulation ran like shit. But maybe that was just for me
4 is actually S tier and tactics too
LR has the best combat in the entire series
>shitty half-step between traditional JRPG and ARPG
Absolutely not
It's nothing like an ARPG, just a really sped up ATB system.
They give the illusion of action by letting you move (very slowly) and taking your actions out of menus and assigning them to face buttons.
I mostly agree with this but I would swap 1 and 8 with 3 and 10-2
Also 14 really deserves a mention for being the best "love letter to the fans" type of game
10-2 doesn't get enough love. That game is fun as frick.
>14 really deserves a mention for being the best "love letter to the fans" type of game
It does but at the same time 90% of the fanbase hasn't touched another game outside of XIV so it's all lost on them. The amount of people that think XIV created the crystal tower is staggering
Don't remind me.
The new sprite work is so god damn bad. Why didn't they just reuse the originals?
I loved ffta. I named mini Ramaza the battousai.
it's not as good as 5
based
Exdeath
>Wears badass armor all the ladies love
>Strikes fear wherever he goes
>His lair is made of human flesh
>Has Gilgamesh, one of the biggest chads in the series, at his beck and call.
>Has an evil plan so good, Nintendo ripped it off wholesale for the Subspace Emissary
>Turns himself into a splinter
>Fights a turtle.
>Final fight is a good challenge
exdeath is actually pretty fricking cool
>has the best final boss theme in the series
Purchased FF6 PR shortly after release (like an idiot) and recently played again. And to my surprise a couple gripes I had are now fixed... kinda.
>blue magic casting looks like blue magic now- not normal attack magic
T-thanks squeenix
>boss deaths closer to the original
But still shit. see:

>playing pixel remaster shit
the only one I deem respectable is ff3. the original was never released in the United States
>not playing a fan translation hack
I own the ds version. it's gay
remake when
that's not celes
I don't care about Celes
I stuck everyone in the dinosaur forest. I'll X-zone them
dyr4r
personally I'm a fan of yoshitaka amano's original art.
Amano art is something I appreciate but I'm not the biggest fan of
love him. he's my favorite artist. he's used to do my favorite ff games, and does the vampire hunter D novels artwork for hydiuki Kikuchi. I love being taken way from shitty life
and that's ok
hopefully nu-square keeps their grubby paws away from 6
squenixs sucks penis wiener covered in BO homosexualry
it's only a matter of time
count your we blessings. it will die
they're on record saying they want to do it, but at this rate, it'll come out in like 2034
Not enough characters saying "frick" or nudity scenes.
Im thinking about buying the final fantasy bundle I-VI, should i get with switch, pc or PS? i thin switch is better bc i can play them in my work or commute
PC cause you can mod the shit out of them these days.
I like the overarching plot and the mid-game twist, but it does feel like most party members don't get enough screentime and the party lacks a sense of "togetherness", most of them barely, if ever interact because of how big the cast is.
where the frick is sir fratly?
FF6 is a good but outrageously overrated game, maybe the most overrated game of all time
No that would be VII.

For the insane and big-brain thinkers: Series or Serious
i pronounced it the correct way even as a child
must be a low class thing to pronounce it other ways or something
For me, it was "seals"
is it not supposed to be like "celestial'?
kelleez
small pp moron
your logic is the reason why FE Fates got Beruka instead of the more thematically and regionally appropriate Belka
Sell-less you uncultured swine
Personally, I hate it. One of my least favorites. That being said, I think it's well put together, and while I have a small video-essay sized rant about the gameplay, ultimately I just dislike the more Shakespearean take for the story, with an ensemble cast of like 10+ characters. I tend to prefer more centralized leads, like in Dragon Quest or Legend of Zelda.
For anyone interested Amano is touring his stuff around Japan
I went last year and it was pretty neat
You can buy his actual painting recreations of his famous works or just semi clear posters and random stuff shown here https://kazaru.art/contents/134/
The acryllic plate for FFVI is really cool
Event link: https://artvivant-fantasyart.net/
Why couldn't he keep his tentacles to himself?
No, its weird how much i don't care for what's happening even if the production quality for its time was amazing, just the first scenes with the mechs was really cool, but i really didn't care beyond that
Gameplaywise its also kind of "meh", i never cared for the ATB system
But i can totally get why this would be someone's favorite childhood game, its just not something i could get through at this stage in my life when i already played so many other games that did all the things FF6 did, i feel like i already played the game and i don't feel like going through that again
What's the best final dungeon theme and why is it Castle Pandemonium
That's Final Fantasy III you dumb homosexual.
Good game shit gameplay......who the frick likes atb trash
yes, its my fave game of all time.
was very funny seeing some friends play through the series and acknowledging just how good of a game it is, even the resident FF7 gay
I never beat the game but I emulated it and put probably 15 or so hours, and all I remember is Edgar and Sabin being moronicly OP
Lads how good is FF4?
about 3 goods
wasted hexes
check'd its ok its the weakest SNES FF tho. Mechanically 5 is better plot-wise 6 4 fails at both but its not a bad game just overshadowed.
every good
I'm still trying to get the mind flayer summon.
Cecil, Cid, Tellah and Yang are now all 35.
SEXTUPLES CHECK 'EM
The bonus content in the gba version so you could use any character at the end was pretty kino I gotta admit
checked, also pretty nice. if you're going through the whole series give it a try.
I can't post butz pics until I'm unbanned
Very linear and has less content and less gameplay than FF3 even though FF3 is on the NES.
It's still better than III by virtue of not having it's shitty job restrictions or mini dungeons
>job restrictions
On the contrary, FF4 feels like a mod of FF3 but with job restrictions, as in, the jobs you get are decided by the plot and you can't choose at all.
It's still better than III which only gives you the illusion of choice with many jobs just becoming invalid as you play through the game
>time for a mini dungeon, better make those physical fighters play as a mage now so they aren't useless
>time for the final dungeon, you'll be using sage and ninja because everything else is underpowered and useless here
At least in IV there's a reason for your party composition and it doesn't feel so arbitrary
>Very linear
Is there an FF game that isn't?
I'm have the contrarian opinion but it's shit. Zero party/build customization and the story sucks.
I'm really sorry I can't post how to do shit. you guys are fricking morons.
Is he the best villain in FF?
My god this thread is absolutely terrible. Just ESLs and morons writing meaningless five word posts back and forth to eachother. Guess that's the kind of person who enjoys this utterly shit game.
you're a boring driveless nonce who fricks farmyard animals and can only think in cliches
this game was a celebrated classic before you were even born
Which is funny, because even your dad managed to get laid but you? LOL
I'm playing right now, beating them all in numeric order.
I'm wondering what's stopping me from spamming Mash's super moves all the time? What's the catch? That I could mess up the input and miss a turn?
Just make sure to level Mash's magic stat since almost all his blitzes work off magic stat.
I didn't know you could choose which stats to level up.
Equipping espers give stat bonuses when you level up.
Slight spoiler ahead
Later on you get to equip Magicite to a character, and each Magicite will add +1/+2 to a specific stat on each level up, so just give him a Magicite that increases magic as early as you can and you're golden
The main catch is Sabin's (Mash's) best moves are
1. mostly single-target
2. target enemies at random when more than one are in a battle
This can frick you over on the occasion. He has a couple of AoEs, but they're mostly mediocre.
>Mediocre
Fire dance carries mid game hard if you aren't using Edgar or gau for free aoe damage.
If by mid-game you mean like three dungeons, then sure?
Yeah, it's not a long game, but the midgame is easily the most difficult part outside of a couple late game bosses.
>Spellblade
>Dual Wield
>Rapid Fire
Yep, it's time for some serious fun
I'll see you guiz in 1 hour
I liked it when Shadow was said to be the kind of kind to slit hit momma's throat for a nickel
ever play suikoden, and met kage? he'd sell his mother's soul for a 5¢
Suikoden is so underrated despite being the best jrpg series that will never get a conclusion to its story.
what's funny is kage is actually a healer
he owns the true water rune
I'm pretty sure he does not actually have the true water rune.
What is your evidence of this?
kage owns the true water ruin in the first game. you moron.
No he literally doesn't.
The True Water Rune doesn't appear in the series until Suikoden 3.
yeah he does. where do you think christ gets it from in 3?
She gets it from the sealed shrine. Not from Kage.
And Chris' father had it before he sealed it in the shrine.
I would really like for you to post screencap or something that shows Kage with the TWR.
Because you are full of shit.
I'll give you $500,000 to join my army
God bless. I'm not allowed to post images until midnight
kino
FF5 was a pleasant surprise, I didn't know 75% of my party would consist of pretty princesses.
I'm still banned from posting images
I was going to post the true water rune image
