The trailer especially was really fricking good with the "escape from midwich valley" song
I still can't believe how they've managed to make top-down indie shooter look so fricking awesome in a minute-long trailer with just a music and a short gameplay clips

Loved the game too but I was a bit disapointed that the music they've used for the trailer wasn't in the game 🙁

the level design is honestly worse than the first, too much glass and too much bs enemies that can shoot you from across the map.

I think the soundtrack was better and it had some creativity and absolute kino parts, but the moment-to-moment gameplay is worse than HM1 because the levels are often larger and have enemies that will literally shoot you from outside of the range that you can see even if you hold shift. Levels stop being about making snap decisions to deal with the emerging situation, and become about trial an error and gradually memorising where you can't stand at any given time without instantly dying.

      Just like Dark Souls!

Dark Souls isn't very good either for essentially the same reason yes

      >become about trial an error and gradually memorising where you can't stand at any given time without instantly dying
you can almost say this about any game. especially 1. it just depends on the player's skill lol.

add randomization? RNG bullshit! (HM does this to an extent)

add scripted events to make it predictable? just trial and error! you can never satisfy these people lol.

        >you can almost say this about any game
        No, not really.
        >especially 1.
        Again, nah, not really.
        >add randomization? RNG bullshit!
You invented this entire conversation lmfao
        >add scripted events to make it predictable? just trial and error!
Again, no-one said anything about scripted events. The problem is that enemies which have very long-range attacks can hit you from outside of your view distance, and this is exacerbated by a more open level design philosophy than the first game, often utilising glass walls which add to problem.

          >Again, nah, not really.

yeah it did. it happened on every boss fight in 1. its basically 'just guess' how to kill them or be instakilled. it happened constantly on the latter's half levels which are filled with long hallways, glass, and tons of dudes with guns being everywhere. this is especially introduced in 'Clean Hit' where 'being killed offscreen' indicated it was going be one of the most common causes of death throughout the game, which it was. trial and error was that game's entire philosophy. which is why it was so forgiving with respawns. 2 doubles down on what they exactly did with 1 and suddenly buttheads get butthurt because its a bit more challenging.

it's a great game, worthy successor but arguable not as good as the first, and a god tier ost
synthwave is NOT dead by the way, it will live forever in my heart

i completely agree, both games are great, the first game is honestly one of the few 10/10 games for me, the level design was pretty damn good. 2 just feels like it has more issues with level design.

2 is way better than 1, carries all its flaws, and actually feels like a full fledge game as opposed to indie tards selling you their concept demo.

you could always shot through glass by blindfiring anyways. what really kills HM1 is the awful fricking controls and it being too easy. srsly no mouse/analog sensitivity and the best mask is unlocked early on? its just a poorly designed game.

It has higher highs and lower lows than 1. On average it wasn't as fun.

i enjoy the level design of the first game much more still, everything feels much more realistic for what you would expect a building to look like from the inside, at least for the most part imo.

I know I'm just nitpicking for lols (and you did say "for the most part") but here's a building where a bathroom is connected to a stairwell and you have to go through it to access the entire floor
Can't even go downstairs if someone took a long shit and locked the doors

it's the best, every time my wife takes a mean shit, i sit on the stairs with my directional mic on and nostrils wide open so I can truly experience her shit with her.

There is this mission (don't remember which one) where you go to a russian bar.
The level starts and you have a big group of mobs in a really small place. Just (almost) wipe the entire first floor and then get killed and restart.
You can get like 10-15?( Can't quite remember the exact number) kills in like 10 seconds. You can farm there

getting all achievements makes the game even better too as it's exhilarating to finally perfect a level and be able finish it in the lowest number of continuous combos, I'd say that if you don't at least have 1-800-GODDAMN you haven't really seen what the gameplay has to offer

  12. 3 months ago

I never finished it but I recall not liking it as much as the first one because there were so many open levels and enemies with guns so you ended up getting shot from offscreen a lot.

I don't get the window complaint, you can also see and shoot through there too you know
Why do people treat HM2's window as if it's some kind of one-way mirror

it's not the problem that windows act like windows, the problem is the absurd amount of them in the game.

it wasn't as much of a lightning in the bottle situation as the first one, but then again sequels aren't required to be and I liked it a lot and found its gameplay even more satisfying than the first one's once I got gud

Yes. I love the soundtrack, and the game as a whole is a massive improvement over the first gam- *gets shot from offscreen*
Seriously speaking, no. It's worse than the original in every way. I have no idea what they were thinking.
