Do you miss Resident Evil being goofy?

If you take the goofiness away it's just generic horror shit.

To an unintentionally badly acted FMV that was directed by japs who didn't know a lick of english? I thought everyone knew story of RE1 creation at this point.

How many lewd thoughts do you think the nips had while filming that intro? I mean, pic related must have looked like a literal goddess to them.

          >Oh, forgiveness-a-prease, we must do another take where you have sweat on your blests
          >Oh, much forgiveness-a-prease, we must do crose up of crotch of pantsu
          >OHHHHHH so much forgiveness-a-prease, perhaps we do another take where zombie dog-a-ru rip off your pantsu

It's definitely goofier but a lot of it is unintentional, intentionally going for "so-bad-its-good" vibes never works. 7 and 8 still keep the campy horror vibe, just with higher production values and better acting.

        Frick you.

7 is one of THE most embarrassing pieces of shit I've EVER been tricked into playing these past 30 years. Literally everything wrong with modern RE and the industry as a whole, in a single package.

Being an underaged homosexual who wasn't even born back in 1996, and clearly had not even heard of Ganker back in 2017, is not a justifiable excuse to pretend like RE7 would be anything but a clusterfrick that did irredeemable damage to RE franchise.

Repeating a Twitter meme and providing zero arguments surely ain't personality nor an argument either. RE7 sucks ass, and 8 is just more of the same shit. The RE-engine trash as a whole represents everything gone wrong in modern gaming industry.

Wrong. It instantly made even RE6 seem like a "good" game. It's a Amerimutt written clusterfrick, retooled out of a VR tech demo, shilled to normalhomosexuals at malls to sell a PS4-only feature, which they then have used to excuse the shitty, slow and clunky gameplay and writing.

Nice story, but who are you quoting?

Because the movement and controls are slow and janky even compared to the 1996 RE1, which is the base line not only should ALL RE-games be always compared to, but double so if shill-gays like (You) try to push RE7 as the faux "return to da roots!" game you advertized it as.

It's slow as hell because otherwise, VR would cause motion sickness. Sadly 3/4 of the platforms it was released on do NOT have a VR support or mode at all.
Second, the map design is linear and cramped as frick, and enemy variety pathetic.
To make it worse, every door is a goddamn auto-save checkpoint, negating any risk and penalty. As if unlimited manual saves wouldn't had been bad enough.

                >b-b-but muh Madhouse diffi!!!
Literally was an unlockable bonus mode during the launch, for an entire year.
Not to mention a RE game with unlimited saves + auto-saves = not RE game.

Frick off, I played on the sega game gear entire games without saves. It wasn't fun or challenging it was just miserable and done to artificially lengthen the game.

I would say it was goofy just aware of the B movie tone it was trying to replicate. And yes I do miss that compared to the remakes and newer games attempting gritty realism.

It's interesting that Resident Evil moved away from the B-movie feel, while House of the Dead is still riding it. Both started in 1996 with games that are almost identical plot wise.

Old PS1 games had long boxes like the one in OPs pic. As for what's happening, this is what was known as "production value" back in the 90's when vidya wasn't a multi-billion dollar industry.

It wasn't intentionally goofy. It's stupid but takes itself 100% seriously. It's camp. Dead Rising 1 has this tone too and it's part of the many reasons why it's great while the Blue Castle games are fricking awful.

    >Goofy
    >B movie
    >So bad it's good
Let's be real, they were anime as frick. The stories only worked because they took themselves seriously. Chris punched the fricking boulder because they thought it would be cool as frick. And they were right. We lost all that stuff when they moved away from japanese writers and tried to be more gritty and intentionally campy.

The only "goofiness" in RE1 was the bad voiceacting (and it isn't bad on purpose)

I remember reading an article where they tracked down the guy who did the VA lines for Enrico in the original RE1 and he didn't even remember doing it. Like, they just pulled him in and said "read this" and that was that. It's funny how amateurish some older games are in the VA department, but unironically I think that's what gives some of these games the unquantifiable "SOUL" that is referred to around here.

for anyone who still enjoys the campy old lore over the revisionist lore from the remakes should check out the CGI movies. sure they are not masterpieces but they have the spirit of what makes RE what it is. just watched Death Island a few week ago and i love how they used miniature sets and monsters with CGI actors placed in.

There was nothing "goofy" about the OG REs besides the lost-in-translation dubbing.
The games took themselves very seriously, which is exactly something zoom zooms cannot do with anything any more. Everything needs to be "ironic" and overblown.

The intro FMV in the Western versions of the game is extremely goofy and it helped to shape perception of the series.

I don't think most people realize how inexperienced older games were in being "cinematic." The absolute gold standard in video game cinema back in the 90s was Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid? When people talk about video games being cheesy, they weren't cheesy on purpose. The writers and developers really were trying. But there were very few solid voice actors willing to lend their talent to video games nor were there many video games that could convey that level of talent. If you took today's technology and know how and transported them back to 1995 when RE1 was being made, it'd probably come out similar in tone to modern RE games.
