name my character after the protagonist of a past game i’ve played or show i’ve watched and name my pokemon after the supporting characters, and the pokemon needs to reasonably fit the character they’re named after
why would i name my pokemon i never understood that shit
i have had this problem with nuzlockes before and i always ended up calling my pokemon shit like FHJFGHJ BVBBv
We did this with our cats growing up. They had other names that didnt stick, and everyone just called them "cat" or "kitty" and forgets the stupid name my mom or sister picked. And it was fine, cat loved it
Buggiesy is the MVP dudes a fricking beast and he only has return dig ancient power and rock tomb. Gonna give him Earthquake ancient power brickbreak and wtv powerful bug move he learns soon.
He's a b***h to use till lv 25 and pretty weak till evolving at lv 40
At risk of sounding like a gay, I name mine after musicians, albums, or songs. >named my Appletun Graham Nash >got a Flapple and named it David Crosby >planning to name my Dipplin Steph Stills
Can I get one more Applin evo?
I like giving them fitting names to make them more distinctive and memorable and build some bond between us. Like, instead of thinking, "my salamence from SV did X", I say "saphira did X". Everything fits.
Azalea for Lilligant because it's a cute, elegant flower.
Kurtz for Vaporeon because Heart of Darkness. Wanted to name it Joseph Conrad but too many letters.
Sinatra for crocodile because it's a singing crocodile.
Mist Raven for Ceruledge because I like Sekiro and it looks edgy.
Saphira for (future) Salamence.
>what are their names
Just anything random that comes up in my head. Usually the first three letters in their name decide what it'd be; eg Pikachu can be a Paul, a Pit, or a Piko.
Usually just random names with the exception of mawile, which will ALWAYS be named Marcy.
I gave it that name ever since I caught a mawile for the first time as a kid playing Emerald and felt that it was a perfect name. Every mawile I've caught since then has that name.
Plus in a way it feels like I'm going through adventures across all these games with the same mawile that I first caught.
>Do you name your pokemons?
I give my pokemon moronic names and shitty puns. Basically, if I get a bit of a cheeky chuckle out of the name, I'll use it.
Vp has been giving me anxiety about not naming my mons recently, so I have been trying to name them, but its hard, I get decision paralysis and then hate the name after. I end up just stream of consciousness assigning random words or even gibberish to them until something kind of fits. Id feel too moronic and cringe and tryhard naming them after anime or mythology or shit like that.
Am I suppose to name literally every mon I catch even if I dont plan on using them? Or just the ones I use? Because even then I still use a lot and then just rotate them out, thats a lot of names to come up with.
Just the ones you use.
Also don't forget that in the newer games, you can always rename your mons and don't have to go to a specific NPC. So sometimes I name them the first thing I can think of, but change it later when I find myself disliking it. Or don't give them a name and do so later when I used them for a while.
Sticking to a theme definitely helps with the decision paralysis, though. You can also look up names on the internet, I like using 20000-names.com (which is a stupid sounding website, but it does exactly what it says and it's basically untouched since 2008 or some shit. So it's not infested with dumb baby and mom shit like every single other website about names)

yes but if Im naming them because I want to form a bond with them, it kind of deflates it if I rename them. Like if my mom called me up and told me they dont like my name anymore and are changing it
Eh, nicknames are a thing. My online friends use my online nickname IRL for example. And even with my real name, most people use the shorter form and don't even know that my real name is the longer form (think Mike vs Michael)
In other words: don't overthink it. It's just for fun.
I don't anymore, but when I was a kid I did and I still remember a couple of them. I had a Jolteon named Gus, a Beedrill named Drillby, a Fearow named Arrow, and a Primeape named Vegeta. I had others too but those are the ones long sick to me even 20 years later.

I couldn't imagine playing without naming my main team. It's extremely soulless tbh.
I usually go for different themes in each game. In SV, I used Spanish and Portuguese names and words. Although I don't adhere that strictly to the theme necessarily and break it sometimes.
I tried to nickname them but there was no point when I can't remember them so I just wait for something memorable to happen while using them in battle and then naming them after that notable event.
I used to do some bizarre stream-of-consciousness type shit. Lately I've been giving all my Pokemon in a given playthrough some sort of theme behind their names. For example, naming them after elements.
I name them after important things in my life mostly old pets that passed away. to honor them and keep them living on in spirit
every torchic ive owned for the passed 20 years has been called kung pao

My cat is literally named kitty

I used to name them frick, shit, Black person, gay, b***h, homosexual. There is no point anymore.
I reserve it for my rivals.
Why would you insult your pokemons?
It's funny in dialogue. Your Black person is evolving or the homosexual was healed.
At risk of sounding like a gay, I name mine after musicians, albums, or songs.

Woohoo - Sheep
Scorbunny - Jerry

>what are their names
Just anything random that comes up in my head. Usually the first three letters in their name decide what it'd be; eg Pikachu can be a Paul, a Pit, or a Piko.
I once called some ground rock pokemon Peter and felt like Jesus
Bouncee
This trade didn't need to be that strong, she can solo the game
first word that comes to mind just like when I name pets irl
Current run
Tepig is Baconator
Musharna is Mushu
Seismitoad is DJ Chuck

Lapras: Hans, Pikachu:Achmed, Mewtwo: Dr. Miller
Usually I'll pick a theme - the default is their colors.
I tried to nickname them but there was no point when I can't remember them so I just wait for something memorable to happen while using them in battle and then naming them after that notable event.
Yes, random name that comes to mind first.
