Each town has a crafting bench where you can use lower level materials to craft into higher level ones

To be completely fair the game doesn't really tell you how to actually get stronger besides "level shit up". It doesn't teach you about which elemental reactions are transformative, additive or amplifying. It doesn't tell you if you should build atk/crit/crit damage or stack pure elemental mastery.
Genshin is a bit weird in a sense that it oscillates between a turbo casual game and a "hardcore" game. It tries to appeal to a normie demographic, has turbo casual main questline but at the same times has relatively complex element transformation system, stats, artefacts, builds, etc and does not do a good job explaining any of these to a casual player, essentially expecting the player to dig and research themselves but this is what a turbo casual won't do (hence they are a turbo casual). Then add the fact that some bosses are not total pushovers and that there is content like abyss and you end up with people who essentially brick themselves by getting to a high world level while not investing into their character strength and essentially end up being stuck as at this point they can't kill anything themselves and to get stronger then need to kill bosses/farm dungeons. For anyone who has played a proper game or two before getting into Genshin, this won't be a problem as they will figure this out, but for turbo casuals this can be a problem. I thinks this a flaw of trying to appeal to both turbo casual and "not so causal" player.
They err on the side of casuals though so they are mostly fine. For the rest of us the abyss isn't challenging enough but casuals don't give a frick about abyss, and coop exists so 4 shitters can help each other clear content at high world level.
I used to not understand why anyone would coop match with randos for artifact farming and such when it is much faster to do it on your own, until I realized some people have genuinely bricked accounts at high WL. But the game lets them thrive with coop anyway, whereas there is no fixing the meager endgame content for non casuals.

Overworld enemy packs, leylines and all combat during all kinds of story or world quests will die before you've even finished a setup for your first rotation so you don't get to use the characters you rolled for properly
The game is in dire need of an optional higher world level simply to give enemies enough health that the combat works

I played on PS4 back then, I had to go to my destination before starting the event, drop a portable waypoint, then start the event and warp right to it.

You're supposed to jump before the charge attack plays lmfao
C0 Hutao requires jumping to cancel the charge attack. This is because the Evade -> Charge movement costs too much stamina to allow for max dps uptime during your E.
With C1 Hutao you can just spam evade -> charge because it removes the stamina costs on the charge attack which guarantees enough stamina for the entire duration of your buff.
Proper jump canceling would stop the charge animation before it even starts while still registering damage

I haven't played in like 2 years (since before inazuma) I'm not sure if I'm too far behind on stuff to continue. I have a bad taste in my mouth from Warframe and them completely dropping previous content for new stuff.
I did enjoy it for what it was when I played. Wish there was a way to just restart story missions from the beginning and I can get caught up and not feel lost.

Game was mid from Mondstadt to Liyue, and straight up bad when I got to Inazuma. Uninstalled shortly after arriving there. Life is too short and there are too many good games to play slop.

Nothing ever happens anymore, the story always almost has something happen and then it just doesn't, ever since Sumeru.
No combat to do, so I don't really care to roll on characters or farm artifacts and I've already scratched the itch of playing some non-meta characters a while ago.
The exploration also really got formulaic and super boring, which is crazy considering they added swimming and it changed nothing.
The amount of reading it forces you to do is incomprehensible.
I have a question actually, do you still spend money on the game when it has no combat content for you to even use the characters/weapons?
Abyss is a 10 minute chore at this point and they've only made it easier.

It was still a game back then.
It didn't innovate or evolve at all, but at the time MHY was trying to stop getting so much money as they were being pushed into some higher tax bracket or something, people kept talking about it at the time, and that's also when they formed Cognosphere and basically moved their taxation out of mainland China. (This is also when they started funneling that money into AI development for military purposes)
It would've made sense for Inazuma to be a time to relax and then pick it back up later, but people just keep spending money on the game for no good reason, so they're still trying to get people to stop playing.

Both Sumeru and Fontaine has very little actual combat in the Archon and character quests. All combat related dailies can be ignore now. Might as well make Genshin the slowest visual novel ever.

Yea it's garbage. I like the game but I can not stomach the endless fricking texts and paimon anymore. The problem is that even if you just mash next it still takes forever. FGO and Granblue are probably the best examples for gacha. You might not like the artstyle/gameplay but their sense of progression is very rewarding. If you upgrade characters, their art changes, their moveset changes slightly etc. You can invest in your favourite characters longterm to make them super powerful.
I don't really get that from new gacha games and most of them have dumb chibi gameplay as well.

Some characters are also way overtuned, to the point every new character has to "interface" with them to be even taken into consideration, and I really disliked the idea of running around with a bunch of tards I didn't care about JUST because they're insanely good (Bennett being the prime example that comes to mind)

To be completely fair the game doesn't really tell you how to actually get stronger besides "level shit up". It doesn't teach you about which elemental reactions are transformative, additive or amplifying. It doesn't tell you if you should build atk/crit/crit damage or stack pure elemental mastery.
Genshin is a bit weird in a sense that it oscillates between a turbo casual game and a "hardcore" game. It tries to appeal to a normie demographic, has turbo casual main questline but at the same times has relatively complex element transformation system, stats, artefacts, builds, etc and does not do a good job explaining any of these to a casual player, essentially expecting the player to dig and research themselves but this is what a turbo casual won't do (hence they are a turbo casual). Then add the fact that some bosses are not total pushovers and that there is content like abyss and you end up with people who essentially brick themselves by getting to a high world level while not investing into their character strength and essentially end up being stuck as at this point they can't kill anything themselves and to get stronger then need to kill bosses/farm dungeons. For anyone who has played a proper game or two before getting into Genshin, this won't be a problem as they will figure this out, but for turbo casuals this can be a problem. I thinks this a flaw of trying to appeal to both turbo casual and "not so causal" player.
They err on the side of casuals though so they are mostly fine. For the rest of us the abyss isn't challenging enough but casuals don't give a frick about abyss, and coop exists so 4 shitters can help each other clear content at high world level.
I used to not understand why anyone would coop match with randos for artifact farming and such when it is much faster to do it on your own, until I realized some people have genuinely bricked accounts at high WL. But the game lets them thrive with coop anyway, whereas there is no fixing the meager endgame content for non casuals.

The signs have always been there ever since Inazuma, no idea how it took you this long to realise that the game doesn’t really plan to evolve in a meaningful way.
every time someone talks about Sumeru and Fontaine, you guys immediately mention Inazuma as a cope.
Inazuma was alright, they attempted to revitalize the combat by making enemies not stunnable by vortex while still being gatherable, the text bloat started to happen but it was still half of what would come in Sumeru and then even worse with Fontaine, the exploration started to get more Puzzle-centric, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it is now, and there was a hell of a lot more combat encounters.
It was still a game back then.
It didn't innovate or evolve at all, but at the time MHY was trying to stop getting so much money as they were being pushed into some higher tax bracket or something, people kept talking about it at the time, and that's also when they formed Cognosphere and basically moved their taxation out of mainland China. (This is also when they started funneling that money into AI development for military purposes)
It would've made sense for Inazuma to be a time to relax and then pick it back up later, but people just keep spending money on the game for no good reason, so they're still trying to get people to stop playing.
Bad characters, shitty story, censorship, a complete loss of universal 5* weapons like Mistplitter in favor of weapons that are only good for 1 character, the absolute slap in the face when they gave Star Rail every QoL change people were asking for 3 years, and yet zoomers kept chucking money at it.
They only really started bleeding players in Fontaine.

Every combat focused event now is going to give you trial characters. The games is giving you less and less reasons to roll. It's amazing how anyone other than oil princes pour a sigifigant amount of money into the game.
Both Sumeru and Fontaine has very little actual combat in the Archon and character quests. All combat related dailies can be ignore now. Might as well make Genshin the slowest visual novel ever.

That being said they do want you in the game as long as possible, on average the longer the player is in the game the more likely they are to spend money, just basic gacha philosophy crap. This is why they will never let you cutscene skip. Ironically, if there was a cutscene skip I'd still be playing and spend thousands, but for the majority it's not a deal breaker.

As long as FGO keeps making billions while looking like some shit you'd play on Newgrounds every Jap is going to try to emulate them. It's also far cheaper to launch 10 low effort jpg collector gachas that will make at least their money back from gambling addicts than to release a single high effort gacha that has a very high risk of never getting enough momentum to recoup the costs.
FGO and Granblue are probably the best examples for gacha. You might not like the artstyle/gameplay but their sense of progression is very rewarding. If you upgrade characters, their art changes, their moveset changes slightly etc. You can invest in your favourite characters longterm to make them super powerful.
I don't really get that from new gacha games and most of them have dumb chibi gameplay as well.

I think exploring in genchink is fun, but rewards are absolute shit. I wish we could get non-gacha(preferably single player) anime game like that. I love character effects and world/scenery. Shit like Raiden's slash effect after using ult makes me rock hard, or Kazuha swirling in plunging attack, that's just two examples they come to my mind, wish we could get more fantasy games with cool effects like that.

Granted, I had played a tiny bit of BoTW before trying Genshin, but I still feel like the latter's countries just felt way more massive and especially comfy to explore (even tho enemy variety is especially bad in the early regions); I very fondly remember setting foot in Huaguang forest for the first time and being absolutely blown away at the sheer size of it all
Unfortunately I don't think there's anything that even comes close to the same scale

Some characters are also way overtuned, to the point every new character has to "interface" with them to be even taken into consideration, and I really disliked the idea of running around with a bunch of tards I didn't care about JUST because they're insanely good (Bennett being the prime example that comes to mind)

a lot of abyss teams themselves aren't good for that because you need to keep your energy up or they spend a lot of time just to set up the combo, what matters is the actual game and where you play it, isn't it? So in this case it would be mostly exploration which should be really easy regardless and abyss where you can show your creativity or just use meta for a quick solution with no thoughts involved

the side quests from Fontaine are all self-contained that have their own resolution like before, but they also connect with one another and expand not only the lore of the region, but of Teyvat, they're a great source of speculation and currently some of the best narratives the game has to offer

Genshin suffers from people listening to metagays and not exploring their characters and their possibilities, the game has a lot more to offer than you'd think when it comes to character building, all you need is creativity and love, you should be able to do abyss with your favorite even if you have to supplement it with 3 strong characters
a good example of this is Rainbow Razor, a top tier comp that was unexplored and could clear the hardest abyss we had so far with ease because it has access to all elemental reactions

It probably mattered before Yelan, but one Yelan sprint makes the lack of a regular sprint not matter anymore. Throw in Furina and it matters even less since your team option at the end is throwing in Jean or Baizhu. They made it really hard for me to roll C1 Hu over another character.
