I got to the start of Shadowbringers in 2020 or early 2021 with a free trial and one paid month but stopped early on because the storyline was really not doing it for me anymore. I enjoyed up until stormblood for raiding and shadowbringers for story. Everything since then has been unfun, and there are issues that existed in 2.0 that yoshi and co still refuse to fix.
After playing FFXVI (and loving it I might add), I also realize that yoshi and co's writing is insufferable. The padded exposition and world building is not good, and they take 2,000 words to convey 20's worth of info.

Customize+ can't really add bump maps which represent muscle mass, it can only make the character scaled up. And I already have it all set to near maximum before it starts to look grotesque.

You can see that most obviously around the collarbone, there's some sort of weird skin darkening compared to breasts if you use regular YAB textures on non viera.

Having all of the textures between all of the bodies be largely incompatible with each other is a huge pain too. I like the size of RTM, but I also like the arm/thigh definition of YAB, and some aspects of some other bodies. But I largely stick to RTM/TFXL because that has the most of what I want. Just scaling the chest size to bigger proportions doesn't exactly work well with other bodies either.
Clear the lv50 MSQ then go do Titan Extreme in party finder, make your own if you need to. If it doesn't fill, queue it directly with some friends and mentors will fill in the other slots.
This game is so dogshit I only login now to go to Limsa and find a dickgirl to plap me. Coincidentally when I get talking to them they tell me they're also bored 99% of the time.

I don't really trust anything like penumbra or the other similar modding tools because it signals to others that you also mod, and opens up some risk of getting detected if you try and use customization services like the hair stylist or other similar things. I only had to deal with her on patch releases which came with new content so a content lull isn't to blame for my fatigue during that part of the story.
I imagine that post patch story in FFXIV is similar to things like a long running web comic or LN series where it's fine if you go through it all at once but when you do it piece by piece and have to wait for updates it can be painfully slow which causes whiny shitters to riot over how 'nothing happened' even though the update had about as much plot progress as it should have. Combined with the fact that the post patch story was spread over 5 patches instead of 3 this time and yeah.
I have complaints about some bits but it was generally fine overall.

The mechanics are okay, nothing special. But normal mode has an add phase and an awesome final phase after the cutscene. They took all the cutscenes out of extremes in EW which is nice for farming but makes this one in particular pale in fun next to the normal version.

I enjoyed up until stormblood for raiding and shadowbringers for story. Everything since then has been unfun, and there are issues that existed in 2.0 that yoshi and co still refuse to fix.
After playing FFXVI (and loving it I might add), I also realize that yoshi and co's writing is insufferable. The padded exposition and world building is not good, and they take 2,000 words to convey 20's worth of info.

Just use customizer+ and fix those things though. I also find YAB a lil lack luster in the thickness department.
Customize+ can't really add bump maps which represent muscle mass, it can only make the character scaled up. And I already have it all set to near maximum before it starts to look grotesque.

YAB was clearly designed with Viera in mind, on most other races it can look a bit wonky

You can see that most obviously around the collarbone, there's some sort of weird skin darkening compared to breasts if you use regular YAB textures on non viera.

Having all of the textures between all of the bodies be largely incompatible with each other is a huge pain too. I like the size of RTM, but I also like the arm/thigh definition of YAB, and some aspects of some other bodies. But I largely stick to RTM/TFXL because that has the most of what I want. Just scaling the chest size to bigger proportions doesn't exactly work well with other bodies either.

Only if you use textools, which no one does anymore because textools are dev tools at this point. Penumbra and collection assignment manages who gets what. You can assign specific mods to specific npc's or players or to no one at all and only keep them on for yourself.

Using the standard textools program is about as hard as modding TES games. I don't really trust anything like penumbra or the other similar modding tools because it signals to others that you also mod, and opens up some risk of getting detected if you try and use customization services like the hair stylist or other similar things. I don't really care to see what everyone else is doing, so I don't really try any of the other stuff.

Just disable its depth of field feature (ADOF). It might be a different number, either studio 2 or studio 4 or even 5, it's been ages since I last checked the number.
It can get pretty bad in brightly lit white areas, so I disable it there, but it's fantastic for darker areas and woods.

I thought the 6.X patches were better than 2.X and 4.X. And for the most part better than 3.X thought 3.3 to 3.5 are still some of my favorite parts.

You didn't have to either, it's your own fault for obsessively playing the game during inter-expansion downturn when content drought is to be expected.
I only had to deal with her on patch releases which came with new content so a content lull isn't to blame for my fatigue during that part of the story.
I imagine that post patch story in FFXIV is similar to things like a long running web comic or LN series where it's fine if you go through it all at once but when you do it piece by piece and have to wait for updates it can be painfully slow which causes whiny shitters to riot over how 'nothing happened' even though the update had about as much plot progress as it should have. Combined with the fact that the post patch story was spread over 5 patches instead of 3 this time and yeah.
I have complaints about some bits but it was generally fine overall.
Nice, the ffiv song renditions are pretty great overall. Maybe it's because I'm sub gay, but it didn't took me long to like Zero.
yeah, the music for Rubicante is sweet, but the EX was kind of disappointing. At least Barbariccia EX is great and Golbez EX is also good

The mechanics are okay, nothing special. But normal mode has an add phase and an awesome final phase after the cutscene. They took all the cutscenes out of extremes in EW which is nice for farming but makes this one in particular pale in fun next to the normal version.
The people mad at this waited 4 months for each patch. I believe doing everything in one go is much better.
