Seconded
They should've stuck with one. The visuals, characters, art, music, everything about the game is amazing but the gameplay. I also hated the upgrade system, where you have to collect stuff for your upgrades. If they'd just stuck with making it action game, it would've been perfect
Yeah, I remember how they said Dio was going to be in the game but later went with Ozzy instead. Knew that the game was going to be soulless corporate garbage at that point.
Well Dio died before the contract could be written up sadly.
>hybrid action/rts game
Wasted potential. Should have gone full action.
Seconded

Biggest Brutal Legend Fan in the world here yes I claim it. The RTS stuff for me personally were the best part of the game I never understood why no one would not like controlling their own heavy metal army. My only guess is that you would have to be a fan of RTS games to begin with and knowing this came out on console where RTS is pretty much non existent I can see why people were mixed to it.
No, I like RTS when it's done right. The problem with Brutal Legend's combat is that it's very half-assed. They couldn't commit to both, so it came out very barebones. I imagine it's either they didn't have too much time and resources, or they shot too high and it dropped the ball.
If the game was pure RTS, I'd have loved it. If it was pure action, I also would've loved it. But coming out as a simplistic action and not too complicating RTS, it makes the experience sour
Weird. I remember reading that EA forced them to rush the game and release it one year earlier than what they originally planned which forced them to cut frick ton of gameplay and story content.
And I remember that they kept missing deadlines which is why Activision dropped them as they were supposed to be the original developers.
Can you imagine how much you have to frick up for Activision to drop you?

>Can you imagine how much you have to frick up for Activision to drop you?
Not much. Both EA and Activision have been the biggest greedy corporate israelites in the vidya industry for the past 20 years or so. They give developers insanely thight deadlines, small budgets, tons of restrictions, and then they are SHOCKED that devs release an incomplete game with mixed or poor reception that doesn't sell well.
>According to Double Fine members, Ophelia was originally going to stay dead and Lita was supposed to become Eddie's new love interest in the later part of the game >Tim Schafer changed the plans on that at the last minute because he thought that it would've been too dark and because Ophelia reminded him too much of one girl he had a crush on in high school
What a fricking hack
Lita >Chill, cool, and down to earth yet also actually fun to be around with gal who supports Eddie from beginning to end, develops a genuine bond with him after Lars died and everything went to shit, and tries to stay strong and responsible despite lacking leadership and cofidance. Also has a super cute 00s scene girl hairstyle, sexo dark raccoon eye makeup, and a stylish black leather outfit
Ophelia >Boring as frick and unlikable stuck up prostitute b***h with no style who throws a tantrum, needs to be saved twice because of her own idiocy, after all the story buildup with Eddie she just backstabs him and everyone else, becomes mentally unstable, joins the emo goth group of frickbois, and helps the main antagonist only to get killed by him later
Absolutely
I picked this game up during my peak Guitar Hero phase after playing the demo at least 100 times
Spent most of the time just driving around listening to the music and collecting shit
Goddamn was the main menu pure SOUL though
>either make a full on action game, even a mediocre gow clone would have been fine >OR if you really want to make an RTS, make it so from the start with different genres as factions
The more time passes the more the second option appeals to me. Could have been a cult classic
>Great aesthetic, fun characters and world, almost good mechanics just barely under-realized >Perfect game to warrant a remake >Would never be done justice in 2023

What did you expect from a game with Jack Black as the main character?
But Jack Black loves Dio.
Well Dio died before the contract could be written up sadly.

Brutal legend had plenty of time, what they lacked was resources as the people who worked on it probably don't have any experience with RTS

mostly i just didn't like having to do it on a controller
Prettttty hard to forget
JUST PAINT MY EYES BLACK
it brutal legend part of the isekai genre?
Technically yes and I fricking hate that you've made that connection in my head.
let's settle this, which one?
I have to pick?
Neither
Lita absolutely mogs Ophelia
don't stick your dick in crazy
frick the blonde.

Man. What a difficult choice
Yup, hated the RTS side of things because as soon as it got to that, the game just sorta, speedran itself to the endgame.
Absolutely

pretty cool main menu yeah
Best game ever made or will ever be made.
It was the game with Jack Black in it, right? I quite dislike Jack Black.
Same. Anyone grab the artbook? it’s one of the best game artbooks ever

Sad
Sure did
With all it's greatness and missed opportunity's.
I remember not giving a shit about it because Jack Black is in it and Iron Maiden isn't.
I actually listened to the ost recently again.
Why didn't they just make it an open world hack'n'slash? No one gives a shit about RTS
>looks like a simple action game
>becomes some sort of overlord rts wannabe
what a disaster but, well, schafer things
That weird mediocre game that changed genre half-way through, but excelled at neither of them?
No. Tim Shaffer is a pedophile and his games are chid mollestation.
