I used to speedrun PsiloSybil. I stopped because work is stressful as frick for me and to come home to stress myself even more by competing with the top players was too much. It's a real shame too because I was really up there as a runner.

what are your favorite games? what games are you attached to from your childhood? and do you still play it actively? IMO that's the best place to start, a game that you have a genuine attachment with. also ignore mindbroken Gankercels, the troony stuff is mostly a meme for any game made before 2010 so long as you don't look at twitter and GDQ shilling.

i can't really help much with specific recommendations as i haven't speedran terribly many games but as cliche as it might sound just look into the scenes of your favorite games and try learning some of the strats and whatnot. easy starting point is to just search up the world record and see what sort of stuff they do. i mention personal attachment in my original reply because with most games it will take a lot of time and dedication to get your times to a place that you are happy with, and having that little bit of extra motivation works wonders towards keeping you on track.
