Yeah, basically they are forced to buy in bulk, when they can't sell those units they sell them to stores like Ollie's. Comic book industry is really dumb. I'm glad that manga is taking over. I don't read manga and I dislike anime, but it is what it is.

Today, the comic book industry is a joke compared to the manga industry, but honestly this has been a long time coming and it makes total sense.
It's not just that burgers have bad taste and are untalented (that's part of it) but manga has always been a mainstream industry in japan, whereas american comics, even in their best years, were always considered to be undergound and quite niche.
Japs just happened to latch onto the format more, trains probably helping out a lot considering that's where a lot of downtime is spent.
The more popular the format, the more people who want to work in that format. On the flip side lets look at video games, a very mainstream industry in the states. Look at how many burger game devs there are. There's no shortage of them, but comic book authors are a very rare breed. Even if you think you see a lot, trust me, there's not that many compared to japan.
The less comics being produced, the longer it could take to come across a real winner. Also the less people working in an industry the more narrow the creative scope is.

Any time a comic is really popular it gets a TV show and people just watch it that way because the average westerner has a better chance of consuming a story while they're at home on the couch rather than on the go.

Manga is designed for adults mainly and the content of stories are more complex and philosophical etc because of it.

Comics used to be sold on Newstands and there were Superhero stories in Newspapers as well. It was around the late 80s and early 90s where the shift went from selling at the Newstands to Direct to Consumer model with Comic Book shops. The reason most of the super hero movies are about heroes before this happened says a lot.

          It wasn't just that.
The collectors market did more damage. Everyone saw that mint condition comic books from the 30's-60's sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and so now instead of marketing to normal people, they listened to collectors.
          >Comic books start being printed on higher quality paper, thus jacking up prices, because of collectors wanted more durable paper and not the cheap newsgrade stuff you still find in manga to this day, instead of just reserving that paper for intentionally more expensive trades.
          >Comic books have multiple variant covers because of collectors, but the only way for shops to get those collector variants is for them to order a shit ton of the normal variants, thus sticking shops with a bunch of basic issues they'll never sell just to get the profitable variants.
          >Niche comic books get pushed to the back of the store and get no exposure because collectors are primarily interested in Marvel and DC, thus they never pick up a big audience unless they're super lucky or built up an established audience at those companies before going indie. Thus the market is flooded with capeshit and other genres struggle.
          >Events. Collectors love event issues. More events. We need MORE EVENTS. Let's alienate the average consumer. What? You just want to read Batman? Sorry. If you want to understand the next 6 issues of Batman, you need to buy 6 issues of Ultra Crisis on Infinite Infinities. But to truly understand that plot, we need you to also buy 3 issues of Supergirl, 6 issues of Action Comics, 5 issues of Justice League, 2 issues of Plastic Man, 3 issues of Green Lantern, and this one shot giant sized Blue Bettle. Also we'll be heavily featuring Super Hades as the main villain, but that means nothing to you if you didn't read a 32 issue Wonder Woman run from 6 years ago.

          It's all so unnecessary.

Pure, unfiltered Gankerpe. Captain America could personally deliver comics to every American in the country, for free, and people still wouldn't read them. Okay let's just keep the scope narrow and make sure there's no public interest in them whatsoever. Bros why is it all capeshit that fails to draw in new readers? How could this be happening??? Let's tighten the scope even further and reduce comic sales down to one (1) possible entrypoint.

Yeah, the general culture around American media that isn't live action tends to be "For kids" and so it remains something you're meant to have some shame for into your teenage years and adulthood.
Some blame can also be cast at the comics industry for not dissuading that view- they still focus primarily on the same handful of brands and still make it incredibly obtuse to get into them for a new reader.

Real difference more than anything is that comics are designed and aimed at children, or at least of all ages with only a small amount aimed at adults, even if the main fanbase of comics are now adults.
Manga is designed for adults mainly and the content of stories are more complex and philosophical etc because of it.

      >Manga is designed for adults mainly and the content of stories are more complex and philosophical etc because of it.
I'm surprised nobody in this thread has called you a homosexual yet.
If anything, I would say comics are ironically the more mature medium in terms of target demographic, which is part of why they fail. They use gruffer art styles, tend to be far wordier, and their content often will skew towards social commentaries or themes that would be more appealing to someone in college than someone in middle school.
Manga on the other hand is predominately for young kids as the intended audience. Most manga are released in the shounen demographic, the vast majority of anime adaptations either pull from that demographic or from light novels (which are primarily consumed by teenagers, they're a Japanese equivalent to YA if you want to be reductive), and in the fan translation scene most of the focus will inevitably go towards more wish fulfillment or shounen leaning works. What fricking manga have you been reading?

        I think you misunderstand.
        For simplicity sake.
Spiderman or batman was originally aimed at fantastical stories for childrens entertainment.
they dont have stories about metaphysical or philosophical musings about reality or what it is to be human.
Now over time, especially because kids dont read comics, they play vidya or are on tiktok or some shit, comics demographics have changed to support the fans who were kids and are now adults (just like vidya tbh)

Now manga, are more often than not created by adults for adults.
they have stories about slices of life, stories about romance, or philosophical musings about humanity, or death.
I mean shit look at GitS, a story about transhumanism and what it means to have a soul (ghost).
You aint getting that type of complexities in a fricking captain america superhero comic shit.

Comics were ostensibly leaning into more mature and thoughtful narratives overall since the mid to late 80s. Death in the Family, the comic even that lead into the complete change of Batman's character, how his world would be presented, and killed off Robin was 1988. The reason the 90s are period where you got a lot of shit people love and a lot of shit people hate is because so much of comics were going back to their more 'mature' roots but went way farther than the old horror anthologies that used to be release.
          >Now manga, are more often than not created by adults for adults.
They are not. Most manga published still target a school age audience, typically in the realm of pre-HS. It's just Japan doesn't have this weird shame about reading media that targets a younger readerbase.
          >they have stories about slices of life, stories about romance
Neither of these are topics that are uniquely for adults. In fact, romance in manga was pushed far more by shounen narratives in the 60s, 70s, and 80s (most notably Masami Kurumada's portrayal in Ring ni Kakero and Saint Seiya, as well as the ongoing quest for Kenshiro's wiener that was constantly happening in Hokuto no Ken), and those manga were and still are for children.
          >look at GitS
Ghost in the Shell is what, nearly 40 years old? Why bring it up?

          >Manga on the other hand is predominately for young kids as the intended audience.

i dont think that the manga of the dude that killed his family and forced his siter to prostitution is for kids bro

          Learn what words mean moron.
There's also been plenty of manga with harsher themes intended for children.
Ashita no Joe has the main character kill his rival in a fight and spiral into depression (to the point where he vomits blood whenever he punches someone in the head), and eventually he suffers brain damage and dies.

All the reasons as to why manga has dominated US comics is over-discussed so all I'll say is that I hope the industry makes a turn around. Good american comics are still made and I should read more of them but that industry is in massive need of a shake up.

You misunderstand his point, there are manga that's absolutely only made for adults, just like comics made only for adults, but in Japan far more kids and teens read manga than American kids and teens read comics. There's far more of it, far more of it is advertised and made for them, they have big shiny prime kid time airing slots for anime to get kids to buy the manga and constantly have new things for kids to get interested and read, instead of the 80th re-imagining of Spider-man. There are indie/small comics aimed at teens but the vast majority of teens aren't gonna find that. Typically, comics have been more focused on social activism, race relations, societal issues, etc.
There was even a recent Punisher run all about confronting the issues with the character and concluding with him being forced to find a different coping mechanism after his wife resurrects and rejects him.

This isn't me saying any of these things are good, but they're clearly directed towards an older audience, likely in planning they are told to direct their work at 20 somethings more than any other demographic.
Comparatively, the current most popular manga do fit nicely in with the younger crowds.
Oshi no Ko is a standard soap opera type revenge story, you have standard wish fulfillment stuff staying high in the ranks like Slime Datta Ken, a boy's soccer manga "Blue Lock" is still fairly popular, and there's always a slew of battle manga that maintain popularity and still primarily target younger readers. These include
              >Jujutsu Kaisen
              >ONE PIECE
              >Kengan Omega
              >Chainsaw Man
And beyond that there's typical fluffy "will they won't they" romances flooding the top which are so obviously only consumed by the perpetually alone or high schoolers.

Again, none of this is to say "Woah, comics covers these so much DEEPER and NUANCED topics", I honestly haven't read a comic in over decade. I have three full bookshelves of manga and the only comics I still own is some 70s Bugs Bunny ones my dad gave me when I was six. But, my point was that the moron saying that manga is read by more people because it's "more mature and philosophical" was a fricking moronic homosexual, because the vast majority of people read manga due to it being easy to digest in its themes and content, and because they want to jerk off to it in some capacity. Simple as.

Nah, it got spammed around a lot so I inevitably saw it, and it was very clearly targeting the demographic I described. It was very wordy, went over relationship issues more complex than "A-An indirect kiss?!", and it ultimately sought to pursue more complex directions with its character. I didn't really give a shit since it was the culmination of an arc I hadn't read and the art was terrible, but it was an even that happened.

How politicians manipulate black comminities to consolidate more power? How the media overrepresent police brutality to further poison race relations?

Boiling down to "le mature topics" is a sign of immaturity itself, but I'll try. You want mature storytelling, read Vinland Saga's farm arc

Vinland Saga was kino until halfway through the Farm Arc. The minute Gardar shows up it goes to shit. All the character development and arcs for Snake, Einarr, and Olmar get thrown out the window so Thorfinn can engage in the same moronic philosophy that got his dad killed and him traumatized for life, and for heaven and earth itself to tie itself in a knot so he can have an unearned win for his stupid philosophy.

Yes, war is bad, you did a good job conveying that in previous arcs without being a preachy butthole about it. The second half of the Farm Arc reads like the author was concerned people didn't understand war is bad and shot his own story in the foot to bludgeon the reader over the head with that message.

      >Marvel and DC consolidate their resources into pushing a small handful of existing characters for decades instead of fostering new franchises and IPs, all the while strangling any competitors out of the industry
      >as a result, there is no way for new writers/artists to really experiment and cut their teeth on because corporate suits are too involved in the process
      >abandons the regular comics format to cater to the collectors/enthusiast market - general availiability is abysmal
      >medium never really matured because of aforementioned corporate meddling (adamant refusal to experiment with themes or topics because that would risk their quarterly profits)
Pic related is a very real problem.

It'd be like if the Japanese manga industry pumped out Doraemon, Kinnikuman, KochiKame and ShinChan, then made nothing but iterations of those for the next 50 years.

Instead, there's a constant revolving door of new blood and new franchises for a variety of audiences on fairly regular schedules. This keeps things fresh and exciting for consumers new and old.

Marvel and DC could easily attempt to revive things by pushing some kind of sponsored webcomics initiative (find some high profile webcomics, offer to support the artist with wages/production in exchange for more regular releases), but they won't because they're incapable of doing anything for the health of the industry at the expense of their annual profits.

      Nope.
I never got into comics because there's decades worth of content, with no real clear beginning or end.
You can't pick up "Batman" and read it, there's 50 different versions of Batman, from 50 different artists, that all have their own interpretation of the character.
      Don't believe me?
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Batman_comics
Oh sorry, there's MORE than 50. Absolutely ridiculous.
Where's the definitive experience for Batman? There is none, at least in comic form. Batman: The Animated Series is considered to be the definitive experience, which is why it's a beloved series to this day.
Manga on the other hand, is very clear where it begins and ends.
      For example.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fist_of_the_North_Star_chapters
This is Fist of the North Star, a legendary manga, it has 245 chapters and 27 volumes. Buronson wrote it and Tetsuo Hara illustrated it. End of fricking story.
That isn't to say western comics don't have such examples, they just aren't as common, and nobody really wants to read the more than 50 artist interpretations of Batman except for hardcore fans, which is why it doesn't sell.

The best Batman stories are ironically the things that are their own continuity.
You can just read Batman Year One.
You can just read The Long Halloween.
You can just read Gotham By Gaslight.
You can just read The Dark Knight Returns.
You can even read the Batman Adventures comics and all they require is that you've watched Batman The Animated Series.
It's easy as so many of those stories can be read as stand alone stories that only require you to know that Bruce Wayne's parents were killed in front of him, and it inspired him to be Batman.

The problem is keeping up with the actual Batman comic book.

Western comics are primarily made by companies. The production staff is told what to do, and they do it.

That's the funny thing: the western comic industry has plenty of non-superhero comics. Horror, thriller, science fiction, etcetera.

That's the funny thing: the western comic industry has plenty of non-superhero comics. Horror, thriller, science fiction, etcetera.
The problem is that westerners don't buy them because they prefer to buy superhero shit so said non-cape comics are always pretty niche and never make enough waves to generate a change on the industry.

Yep. Because the identiy with comic books has always been:
      >stoic unrelatable adults go on death defying action sprees every day and also every couple of years everything gets reset
It's more rare to experience somber moments of character growth that feel like seeing a friend you've been close with since school, grow up and change.
Majority of comic book characters are fully realized adults and they only exist for a few books before being retconned for a new series to start.

This is usually a superhero comic problem only but it still sucks because superheros have dominated comics since they started existing.

I'd be echoing the old (and true) points everyone has hashed out before, so to offer a new thought:

If anime and manga tried to have as much of a multiverse interconnection of everything, it would start to flounder too. You can enjoy HunterXHunter or Naruto or Demon Slayer or DBZ or One Piece as they are, no need to have to go into this rabbit's nest of other interconnected bullshit. I am sure, maybe initially, you'd have manga fans like this idea of a grand multiverse connection of things. Then it'd rapidly sour. This is not to say other elements like the moral soapboxing or what you said aren't at play for them failing, especially the death-rebirth-death-rebirth bullshit and the woke shit. See

      >Where do I start with Demon Slayer
      Chapter 1
      >Where do I start with Batman
Well this run is good, also this seperate run is good, oh avoid this run, oh avoid anything by this artist, everything by this artist is good, do your research.

Not to mention DC and Marvel writers blatantly shoving in their agendas.

what he said too. If I wanna start on Naruto or even DBZ it's a little more intuitive than batman.

Funnily enough the only comics I've read any time recently that I enjoyed were something like DMZ +10 years ago, Elric a few years ago (the french ones), Y the last man like 10 years ago, Age of Bronze or whatever the Trojan war one was called awhile back too.

You're missing the forest for the trees. Manga succeeds because it is creator driven and designed to tell a story, with a beginning and end.
Comics flounder because they change writers like an std in a frat house and they are designed to continue indefinitely. Artistic vision becomes lost in the pursuit of a product.

I'm right to assume it was some peak boomer who wrote it? If you think about it it's a little understandable why boomers were so fawning lovey dovey with Israel, both because of the geopolitical nature of it back then but also pop culture really leaned HARD on it. Pic related was on the level of Gone with the wind and Ben Hur (Note the name), the Enteppe raid had a bunch of made for tv movies and if people think slava ukraine is obnoxious I hate Russians, mind you, but slava ukraine is cringe Israel got that x1000fold in pop culture. And now all that good will is gone because they got greedy. Like tears in the rain.

To make it VIDYA related, if not for the controversies of it I'd have liked a Red Orchestra: Holy Wars where you play 67-82 conflicts. AKs and Fals and Uzis and shit, what's not to like.

Yeah that's a better way of putting it I guess. The manga is a story first and foremost, even when it becomes a sensational hit (look at Toriyama's work with DBZ), while comics the original authors are long dead or sold out/bought out so it just becomes an "IP". Which is the heart of the issue, innit. Japanese stuff that does well tends to be a concept and story, Western stuff is now all IPs, be it LOTR or Star Wars or Warhammer or Star Trek or whatever.

This is another big issue. While lots of volumes might be intimidating, there's a clear order in manga, while comics are all over the place in terms of quality. Doesn't help you could pick two different comics from different years and have storylines going on in different universes without realizing it, or be attached to a specific verse and then suddenly there are more issues when you find out it just kind of ends abruptly.

This is literally a zoomer problem - let me break it down.
Imagine you're like, 16 in the mid 2000s and everyone's talking about how good Lost is, it's already on episode 10 and episode 11 is airing tomorrow.
What do you do in this situation? Do you go out and buy all the Lost DVDs hoping to catch up before the one airing of episode 11 happens at 9pm? Said Lost DVDs which probably don't even include episode 10 since it aired last week?
Or do you just suck it up and start watching from episode 11 so you can be part of the conversation the next day?
This is just how people consumed content back then, you went through the brand new stuff as it was coming out and maybe you'd go back to some of the old ones in your own time.
In this environment comics could thrive, because people understood that you could just pick a comic off the shelf and start reading from there, just like with TV.
Now though? Because everything's on streaming you can't start a show from the middle, you HAVE to catch up from the start before you're even allowed to touch the new content, and people think this is the only way you can experience anything - even movie and game sequels suffer from this to a certain extent, people are too moronic to just enjoy what's in front of them.
So now you can't just pick Spider-Man #1074 off the shelf to have a good time, you better go all the way back to 1962 to read all 1000 issues from the start even though they're awful and Spidey talks like a jackass.

Even my favourite comics like 2000AD and Judge Dredd go off the deep end with their politics recently (yes the series is a highly political one in the first place criticising British and American culture) its nearly impossible to find actual interesting settings or stories in western comics anymore where the focus is on its own universe, especially ones that dont force down how evil "white men" are every page instead of actually doing shit related to the story.
Manga has kino like Dorohedoro, BLAME and hundreds of other original and interesting worlds and characters. Outside of a few French comics I rarely see western comics explore their universes and instead prefer to focus on moronic shit like allegories for modern social issues or how evil we are for not supporting Israel phosphorous bombing infants. shame its hard to find translations for French comics.

I know people who used to, pretty much all of them burnt out and sold it all years ago. At most they just keep a couple batman omnibuses.

      [...]
What fricking manga have you been reading?

      >comics are ironically the more mature medium in terms of target demographic
A lot of people mistake shonen stuff for being very older-teenager aimed because it's willing to have wacky comedy, a little sexuality, and some characters getting their heads cut off all in one volume. Comics feels split, characters either just knock each other out over and over or someone gets torn in half while screaming "SH*T". I don't think it's really a matter of maturity, more intended audience. I don't think comics are made for any age group.
Frankly I think they really did just get fricked over by the comics code and now they don't know what they are.

I ain't him but I liked the elric comics by "by Julien Blondel (Author), Didier Poli (Illustrator), Robin Recht (Illustrator)" (I just googled the amazon copy of it). I don't like the elric books, but it was well drawn and well told.

Blacksad is great too. And in retrospect I find it funny some Spanish-French authors could do a better job with fricking furries telling a captivating story in race-tense Southern USA than any hack American author can now.

what the other guy said, read runs, rather than worrying about an overarching plotline among the comic's entire run

Well first off you have to stop being autistic
Once you do that you realize that it literally does not matter - you don't need to know who Johnny Storm is if he shows up at the start of a Spider-Man story, he's one of Spidey's superhero friends, his relevancy begins and ends there.
The only thing you actually do need to pay attention to is like if at the end of an issue it says "continued in whatever other bullshit comic" but if it doesn't say that you can just keep reading, and if Spidey says something like "oh boy I sure am glad to have gotten rid of that Halloween costume* in issue #3 of Web of Spider-Man" just don't even bother because who the frick cares about Spider-Man having a Halloween costume you can just chalk it up to something that happened off screen lol
You really do not need to bother with all the side bullshit - even if the story you're reading happens to coincide with a big event you can just read that event for the character you care about and disregard what everyone else is doing it's fine.

So you have to act like a moron with a short attention span? Whats the point of the wider story then? Maybe I am autistic but it just seems like a shoddy way to put together a story if you're literally encouraged to not give a shit about how or why half of it is happening.
                Especially with

what you said, it just seems like its encouraging the shallowest fricking shit. "Just ignore an entire character being introduced and being part of the story, with an apparently pre-established relationship, but you have zero context or background on" it sounds more like reading children's stories or AI dungeon where they just throw events together and ignore the setup it needs.
If this is how comic readers encourage you to read, then no wonder I've always found them fricking shit.

                >So you have to act like a moron with a short attention span?
For smaller characters, one run is about 6 issues long, for bigger ones it can be over 100. One run doesn't mean "Read a single issue and let that be it".

But as you said, it DOES involve completely ignoring shit that, in a normal story, would be explained or not present. Random callbacks to other events, in a real story, are things that you would reasonably have read. Apparently in comics you are supposed to just fricking say "oopsie daisy guess I didn't read that" and just ignore it, like some ADHD moron who skips dialogue in a video game.
I guess comics are truly a children's medium, because only a child would ignore things being written about like they are supposed to know about them, yet they didn't because they're in another comic run.
Again, it just seems like a sloppy, shitty way to write a story. A clear bait to try and make people read more than they normally would to get the full context.

Hey, hold up. Pixar and Disney are shit but Netflix, Skydance, and various other companies have poached all their talent over the last 10 years. All those skilled animator who you grew up with in the 90's and 00's still work. They just don't work for legacy studios. People need to stop all this doom and gloom shit. Just because the companies you grow up with are terrible now doesn't mean the talent disapeared. Getting really sick of that narrative.

Come on man, you know why. Streaming changed everything. Instead of getting a trickle of content from select sources you get showd from a dozen different platforms. It's hard to have those water-cooler moments in culture when nobody is watch the same stuff. I was reading an article about Seinfeld earlier that discussed this very topic. Every knows that the big happening moments are gone. They are never coming back. Everything changed after covid and the union strikes. I'm just a lowly microphone tech but I can tell you right now. All my jobs are music oriented now. 16 months ago all I did was work with film companies. Everything has changed.

With all this talk about the downfall of comics, how come no one actually points their interest to non-capeshit comics? Transformers, TMNT and the Spawn franchise seems to be doing well (I know these are 1# issues but still). There's also not much hateboners for these franchises too lol. Seriously most of this comics dying thing seems to be squarely on Marvel and DC caking the frick up with like 20+ comics a year so the top billing comics sell as fine as usual while all the gutter trash just clogs the catalog making it seem very bad for them. I bet if the big 2 narrowed down with less than 13ish current comic runs every 1.5-3 years with the emphasis on quality maybe the industry sales wouldn't make it look so bad for them.

Dude, for real. It's only Marvel and DC that are fricked... well, maybe Dark Horse and IDW as well. But you can still make mountains of money working outside of the pack. Superhero comics definately suck, but comics aren't just about superheros.

this is a thread full of midwits with thirdhand opinions on comics because they don't read comics. Dog man comics make up like 40% of ALL COMIC SALES, a comic is the best selling book in the globe and people will still say comics are dying. Capeshit is dying. Scholastic graphix sell gangbusters because they actually try to make comics for kids. Nothing weird about where to start with modern kids comics, you just pay $10 and get a complete story.

Really does look a whole lot better.

this is insanely better as flats aside from the depth of field panel

They really are obsessed with adding excessive shading to everything

I find capeshit has a serious problem with dynamic composition. Like these frames look ok, they convey what they have to. But then you see how creative some mangas get with their composition and you see how theyre using different camera angles, effects like speed lines, implied blur, fisheye lense effects, etc. They typically convey a sense of speed and action a lot, maybe not better but aggressively.

When did Peter get his own glider?

What's funny is they had a pretty good technique for conveying action in their animated stuff. But in comics they seem to only focus on the before/after, and not the middle frames where the motion is most prevalent.

            Anonymous

A common weakness of western comic book artists is that they have a very poor sense of panneling and timing.
As you say, they look fine and convey what is happening. But there is no "flow" between most the panels. You have to expend brainpower (either conciously or subconciously) to fill in the gaps.

For a pure example of how panneling and timing can carry a series, go check out the original One Punch Man comic. Visually it looks like shit, but it reads very well which lets you more easily process the characters and action.

Manga is also a lot easier to access online, most manga costumers of today were, and still are, pirates first.

Why do you think these threads get so many replies? Manga is obviously cheap slop (monochrome breasts and powerlevels) but hey, that's what people want. It's upsetting but it's just how it is.
And then you have morons that even defend manga's lack of details and color saying it's actually better. There's nothing you can discuss with someone like that. They're like BG3 fans.

Everyones giving moronic examples about the content inside but thats not the main factor.

Main factor is comics are a clusterfrick
    >Some normalgay wants to read Bleach, grabs Bleach volume 1 and is good
    Compare that to
    >Some normalgay wants to read spiderman
    >Theres 6 different spidermen series, currently ongoing featuring multiple different actual spidermen
    >Or do they start from the 500 other spiderman series which have been completed
Then you start actually reading one
    >HEY SPIDERMAN ITS YOUR OLD PAL NAMOR, WE HAVENT SEEN EACH OTHER SINCE THE INVASION OF THE GRIBLGAMS (go read the ultra invasion secret vol 235)
And against all odds say they pierce through all of those barriers and are enjoying a series
    >Author randomly quits and a new one takes over and 180s the series into the ground

Its no fricking wonder why normalgays dont want to touch comics.
Thats not even factoring the price, comics tend to be twice as expensive minimum, hell most are like 30 bucks for a volume compared to mangas 5-10.
    Or the actual content

This is one of the rare examples of a character whose beliefs are just theirs and not the author putting them on a soapbox for the audience and you still manage to find a way to be a moron about it.

Would like to point out to people saying manga is easy to get into, you can say that primarily because you get it filtered for you.
Most popular franchises end up having several ongoing things running adjacent to each other and it's not just phone games. Vid related has a main manga (105+ volumes), a side manga whose content is typically indistinguishable from the main work (45+ volumes), several spin-offs (ongoing or 6-15 volumes), and an annual film series.

        >Cmon Bro,that 1 FRICKING MANGA SERIES OF 999999 THAT ARE AROUND
        Well...
Dragon Ball for several years had the following. Dragon Ball Super (anime), Dragon Ball Super (manga), and Super Dragon Ball Heroes (manga AND game). All of these ran concurrently and were, for the most part, completely different products.
Come September though, it'll be Super Dragon Ball Heroes (manga), Super Dragon Ball Heroes (anime), Super Dragon Ball Heroes (game), Dragon Ball Super (manga), Dragon Ball Daima (anime), not counting various other spin off materials.
Currently, the manga series Kaiji spans around 75 volumes. It also has four spin-offs, two of which are currently running (and one of them ended on a note implying it will have significance to the main series).
Also, here's a bunch of manga and anime that continually reboot themselves:
        >Mobile Suit Gundam
        >every Go Nagai work (Devilman, Mazinger, Cutey Honey, etc.)
        >the more prominent Leiji Matsumoto works (still waiting on Zero Century)
        >Getter Robo
        >any kids anime (Digimon, Pokemon, etc.)
This shit happens all the time. Again, you people get it filtered for you.

          Suit Gundam
Pretty much every series is it's own thing, so you can watch them separately. Sadly, the UC has been raped beyond repair. Just watch the original Tomino UC anime and ignore everything UC produced after Victory.
Go Nagai work (Devilman, Mazinger, Cutey Honey, etc.)
          Robo
These are more complicated, but stuff is mostly separate (?) most of the time. No one's getting into Go Nagai or Getter Robo stuff in current year, anyways.

The only other point of discussion is that comics (AND manga) are not that great of an industry.
Most comics just get made directly as hollywood block busters (which earn more than the entire manga industry) or video games (which earn more than the entire manga industry). This is because the publishers who own the rights don't want to put money into an inefficient medium.
Manga publishers still make cheap b&w comics before anime because they have no qualms adding porn and violence to make it sell and because their moronic audience which doesn't care at all that 95% of what they are reading is either some "cool pose" with mindless cliche platitudes or some "dynamic pose" of some attack that was actually a lot stronger than had been described by some sidecharacter 2 panels before.
Stuff like Berserk or Blame are the very rare exception imo. Especially with how commercial manga publishers are. Whenever something sells, you get like 20 different copy cats instantly with the same story structure, the same tropes, the same cliches, the same faces, the same everything almost. Because ultimately their target demographic are those who are too young to have noticed the repetition.

Why do they keep trying to turn Harley into an Anti-Hero and make her and Ivy a thing?

It's because comic books are inherently a nerd incel hobby, and if you're going to dive into a nerd incel hobby you might as well invest in the top of the line nerd incel genre.
Given the choice between an authetic German Brautwurst and some Nathaniel's Frank goyslop, a normal person will chose the genuine thing.
Given the choice between normie western comics and weeb pedo comics, the nerd incel will chose the genuine thing

      Fricking hilarious

I don't see the point of the manga aside from making more money. The game is a complete story as it is.

it's for "experienced players" and people new to the story, so i assume they'll just build on the characters and the self introspective parts, which were admittedly pretty flat
also probably lots of Basil Sexo

Yeah probably, but I just don't really see how it can be good in a way that it adds to the game. I will read it anyway, as will many fans of the game, but I really fail to see the point, aside from generating more dojin interest for fujos

Before this thread dies I want to quickly shill the original Alien vs Predator comic. It's very good and if you like either of the two monsters, you'll most likely like this comic too.

Both manga and comics are equally niche, the difference is that manga gets 1:1 adaptations which double as advertisement because people will pick up the book between seasons.
Comics have only recently started doing this with stuff like Invincible, you need to hook people in with a medium that's friendlier to normies and then leave the storyline unfinished so they'll want to continue with the product you actually want to sell.

Good western comics don't get marketed or distributed for whatever reason. The best is JTHM and I only found out about that one because its the same guy that made Invader Zim.

Even if there are some japanese multimedia franchises that have become rather convoluted these days, you still have tons of manga/anime that are properly finished, contained works. Meanwhile, american comic is mostly just 2 bloated, incomprehensible giants that have been going on since forever

They ever make them more accessible to read? I signed up for the DC+ thing a few years ago and they actually had incomplete series on there. As in a 7 part arc would only have 4 comics available.

As a kid I only ever read groo and elfquest. Later the only newer things I liked were Transmetropolitan and Leaving Megalopolis, just thought you should know.
