Do you think more RPGs/Monster raising games should incorporate the idea of "shiny" monsters or is it something only Pokemon can ever execute on

This random DS game executed the concept way better. First I need to lay down the context that this game has a trait system like Dragon Quest Monsters. Exotic monsters not only have noticeably better stats but they have rare traits you can breed into other monsters. They have a reason to exist and be coveted.
That's entirely different from a shiny and something basically every monster catcher already has, pokemon included
What's pokemons version? I stoped playing those years ago.
IVs, literally a Pokemon's "genes" that determine how high their stats can grow which can be passed down through breeding
But that is random between all Pokemon. Shiny pokemon can have good or bad DNA like every other one. And traits do stuff like letting your monster glide and not be impaired by water or snow so they can run normal. It's been a while since I played the game so I could be misremembering though.
If wanna get technical, Monster Hunter does it, and does way better than Pokemon
While ALSO not becoming le gay heccin one and only unique scrimblo bimblo shit either
in my game monsters can be many different colors and types. it increases how many there are to potentially collect without some coked out alcoholic dad beating RNG that gamegay puts in their Pokemon games.

Why not give every single pokemon a unique appearance like they did with spinda?
because they need consistent appearances for plushies and cards and shit
That's dumb, they should still have a baseline model that's used to represent it in the pokedex. Doesn't mean your personal one can't look a little different, just like irl animals.
Because that's Spinda's gimmick
Pokemon really should have iterated on the different colourations like they had in Stadium instead of just 'one specific other palette.'
I, too, was weirdly fond of green Pikachu and orange/brown Rhyhorn with a cyan tongue.
And people are calling him out for being the clout-chasing, shit-stirring homosexual he is for trying to push Lawly's nothingburger of a response. Honestly, I'm fully expecting him to be outed as an actual pedophile, because him putting Lawly's pussy on the pedestal is triggering all sorts of red flags. Why's he so buddy-buddy with a girl who wanted to get adult men to frick her as a kid? How did he even come to know her in the first place?
Didn't the concept of a rarer version of a monster start out with the metal slime in DQ?
Shinies killed Pokémon differences. Stadium games had differences based on nicknames, even though they were very slight colouration differences. That could have been moved over to the mainline games (and accounted for things such as IVs, Natures, etc) so Pokemon looked somewhat different from eachotehr, but it never came to pass because of shiny variation.
That was a thing? Never realized since i was a kid. Sounds easy to code to just set some limits and %s on what can change exactly, and generate some hash code using b things like nickname and IVs and where caught or something
That kind of shit looks ugly 99% of the time
Shiny Pokemon are too rare to be considered a part of the game. If they were just hard to get, that's one thing, but the fact they hinge on RNG means you in practice will never come across one if youre playing the game normally
nature has shinies irl too btw
Albino Pokemon would look so much better than 80% of shinies
technically they accidentally did that early in XY where rarely a pokemon just wouldn't have textures applied correctly making them white or faded.
Of course Gamefreak only does cool shit on accident.
the reason why so many shinies look like shit is in gen 2 when introducing shinies it was just a mathematical color palate swap, it wasn't selected manually.
I think they should incorporate the idea of "skinship" between trainer and monster.
builded for BWT
I'm glad the chugga situation ended even though it never should've exploded in the first place.
>Ended
Werster is trying to start it again
"Shinies" in general are a great concept for any game where collecting is a huge focus, not even just for monster collecting games like Pokemon. It boggles my mind that so few games have considered it, since its such a simple thing to implement that can add so much more for the people who are a fan of collecting. I don't just want the ability to find alternate colored monsters, I want shit like getting rare color variants of weapons in loot games. It should be a standard for any game with a multiplayer component that also feature a heavy emphasis on collecting. There's a reason why alt variants are so prominent in TCGs.
have a nice day off topic stealth e-celeb thread Black person.
>people actually discussing games
>bring up e-celebs for no reason
Cassette Beasts have their own version where wild monsters have a different colour but also have a different typing (i.e., a "shiny" red monster is a fire type)
I think shinies should add more colour variation rather than a single variant. I would imagine it's easy to write a script or something that changes the colour values of textures for something rather than making new textures for every single shiny variant. I don't know anything about making games though.
