Do you think there exist a Market for a Brutal Legend 2?
I remember liking it fine for the theme of the game and design, and the rts aspect was fine... what I didnt like much is the feedback in battle, it isnt really clear if units fighting are doing damage, winning, losing or what.

Now that Microsoft owns it, now there is tons of money to make a sequel, But would modern sensibilities and trends care about Rock, metal music aestetic?

I think they could definitely fill the 'heavy metal album cover' game niche, though they should stop trying to mix beat 'em up and rts and pick one.

Personally I'd prefer a beat-em-up, but a proper heavy metal aesthetic RTS would also be baller as frick.

i am more intelligent than you

the first one never went anywhere, what's different now? the only battle that felt interesting was the very first one because it actually felt like a big set-piece field battle, while every other one just put you in these arenas that made even the simplest RTS tournament maps look interesting. they're meant to be the climax of each act of the story but they sort of end up being chores, then you beat the game and realize that it actually is one of those awful RTS games that treats the campaign as a tutorial for the multiplayer mode.

re-installing the game so i can re-play in order to take a bigger shit on it, see you fellas later.

Have being playing matches agaisnt the AI, and the lack of information really affect my desitions.
a simple example is having some nun standing and healing herself, while my units keep attacking and they dont die. I dont know how fast they are healing, and if im even outdamagin their healing.

Feel like the game is kind of incomplete, and considering that the game was rushed because it run out of money, that is probably the case.

also, im not sure what architypes correspont to each faction. except humans which are basic vanilla stuff.

The unit limit is 40, and not every unit countas 1... wonder if is that small because the limitation of the console generation... while having 8 player matches.

          Oh then in starcraft terms.

          >Ironheade is your typical jack of all trades/Terran faction
          >Drowning Doom is your zerg faction of cheap units you can mass with powerful casters and 1-2 super tank units.
          >Tainted Coil is your Protoss faction where 1-2 units can take on an entire army and they have some interesting situation caster units.

Baddies, emogoths and regular thrash metal dudes. I think it was kind of a mistake to have a baddies "demonic" faction in a game about heavy metal, honestly.

Each faction represents a types or general history of metal.

Ironheade is your general classic metal but also has the mix of hair meta.

Drowning Doom is the next evolution with it being Death, Doom and Goth metal that appeared in the 80s to the 90s

Tainted Coil is supposed to be based off more modern metal genres of industrial, nu and experimental metal with a bit of thrash since Coil is supposed to be the insane demon faction.

      Anonymous

All Tainted Coil Hierarchy/Spawner units like Battlenuns get stronger and regenerate very quickly while in the vicinity of friendly units of a lower rank and give those units a small Regeneration boost in return. So often it's easier to kill their support units if you don't have a unit with a powerful double team nearby. Check the Tour Book.
      >archetypes
      >Ironheade
They are pretty vanilla, you are right. Eddie's Anvil makes them the best faction for punishing enemy Avatars raiding your troops but that's for mp mostly, as the AI prefers sticking to its troops (every time an Avatar dies the opposing team gets 50 fans, by the way).
      >Drowning Doom
At the 1st base level, they do look like a horde faction, focusing on solely recruiting diggers is both a simple and effective tactic, not only there are hordes of them, their double team is a very powerful AOE attack that makes it pretty easy to delete the enemy troops in droves. But at the later upgrade stages it becomes harder to separate your units, because you want both all of your debuffers and damage dealers in one place. Ophelia's Tear Infusion melody is amazing, not only it gives a rather strong Regeneration, it heals vehicles too. Also, you can steal powerful enemy units with your wigs or Organist (works on everything besides Coil's Hierarchy units and Bleeding death so you totally can steal the enemy Rockcrusher, for example).
      >Tainted Coil
Hierarchy units are a bit slow at unit production but they can do it everywhere on the map and unlike other factions you can recruit with nuns and upgrade your stage simultaneously, if you have enough currency. Add to that Dovi's speed buff melody and you get the most mobile faction in the game.
And when you get a stronger spawner unit you want to produce weaker spawner units with it since that's how you get your troops upgraded as Coil. The other two factions get to spend money on upgrades only at the 3rd base tier and only for their 1st tier units.

This game was really fricked over by its own marketing. Almost everyone thought it would just be a generic action adventure game with a cool theme, but then they got blindsided by the strategy gameplay. If they hadn't pulled such a bait and switch I feel the public perception of the game would be a lot more positive.

The adds were not promoting the control your army aspect?

Barely. All the advertising avoided explicitly mentioning the strategy aspects except in the vaguest terms like "assemble your army" and focused on the action and the celebrity voice acting. Even the official trailer only shows one split-second scene of actually leading some troops.

Hell, you can go to the Steam page right now and see how it's described as "an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom." The phrase "real time strategy mechanics" only gets a quick mention in paragrtaph 4 of the longer description, after scrolling halfway through the page.

One of the odd issues about brutal legend is that it combined heavy metal aesthetic, music and history with a strategy game. Im sure there are a lot of people that like both things BUT the people that like heavy metal would probably want something visceral and action packed, like god of war, instead of Sacrifice but with a heavy metal mod.

It may have an audience but to avoid issues the RTS side needs to be front and center, they need people to understand this isnt a full on action game, more like kingdoms under fire.

Would it sell well? honestly its hard to tell, action strategy as a genre is so small, and all the entries i know are stuck as niche games, they arent really selling a lot.

I would play brutal legend 2 in a heartbeat, frick make a campaign for the other 2 factions

in a modern era we could go dumb free 2 play and sell little hats, and outfits for your armies, and skin packs. also selling hero packs for each faction.
But I would be sure, to have a pack that is "if you own the campaign, you get a huge pack of cosmetics so it feels more complete", and only if you only have the multiplayer part you interact with the microtransaction stuff.

As far as I know the only ones that would have a hard time reprising their roles would be Lemmy Killmeister (Dead) and Tim Curry (paralysis). Everyone else is alive and kicking, albeit they are either old as sin (such as Lita Ford and Rob Halford) and/or are blitzed out of their mind on God knows which drugs (Ozzie), but then again, that's his default state.

    I'd love a remake/remaster whatever it's called of Sacrifice or just a sequel/spiritual successor.
Fricking garbage or old games that don't really need it get resold to scam boomers, but Sacrifice could actually use an upgrade to give us at least more than 5 players per map and mod support.
Me and the entire dozens of people would really appreciate it.

They need to lean more into the Sacrifice mechanics more and add some depth to the RTS stuff beyond needing to personally show up for commands.
The setting definitely still has room for more content.

honestly Sacrifice isn't that good of a game and Brutal Legend is much better. Sacrifice is just an RTS in 3rd person. There is no point in it's dicision for it. You can control and generally play the entire game just like a traditional RTS. What makes the action RTS a compelling genre is that need of your avatar being there and how you interact with the units. In BL the avatar is much more than just a barely passive roll in how to control your army. The game really incitivises and rewards you for going out there and playing a more active roll in the action. Your avatar can not only cast spells, but can also attack and do powerful double team actions with units that can really make or break a fight. Yeah you can still generally play the game like a traditionl RTS game, but players who can do both are the ones that end up winning in the end. This to me is what makes the genre fun, you have much bigger roll in the battle of everything than just sitting there and watching things happen. In Pikmin baby sitting is pretty much the game, cause if you don't who knows what is going to happen to them, yet because of this the game is great because instead of just doing some macro or watching them die you have to really get in there and keep your pikmin alive or on task. Battalion Wars is more like BL in which while you can just sit there and RTS, if you do decide to take control of a unit and get in to the fray you are very much rewarded for it and perform much better. BL I feel like really got this down and that it's major issues doesn't come from the fact that it's an RTS game or an action game but instead doesn't really embrace that it's both till it's far to late in the game.

I'll add that while Sacrifice's soul gathering as a way of getting unit recruitment points is unique it seems to make one lost fight the end of the whole match outside the campaign .

        >Sacrifice is just an RTS in 3rd person. There is no point in it's dicision for it. You can control and generally play the entire game just like a traditional RTS
idk where you get this. Even in the tutorial and against the campaign AI the game teaches you that you should always be and need to be in the action or you'll lose. Maybe against the skirmish AI you could beat them like in a traditional top down units only RTS, but I never tried that. Maybe by action rts you mean you should literally be able to fist fight your enemies?

Brutal Legend was really fun. In an attempt to make third person brawling and real time strategy work together they needed to tone down the depth of both to prevent gameplay incongruities. This unfortunately means that you're not going to have a very deep experience either way, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. The game's setting was great, the story was great (for what it was), the gameplay was shallow but enjoyable. It was unique and interesting and different, and not to mention did a great job with the metal aesthetic, I think they hit the nail directly on the head.

That said, the open world was probably completely superfluous. I would love a sequel that's just a similar game with a tighter focus and more budget for the bells and whistles, like damage feedback, unit AI, etc. NEVER EVER going to happen though.

A lot of the open worl was probably there and forced to put heavy metal vistas.
There is no fast travel, and ton of dumb collectables, probably because the developers wanted you to look at the world.

probably dept had to be cut down for lack of time, but primarly because it was done for consoles, so there would be to many buttons combinations if they wanted to give you more control on stuff.

Those factions and quotes are such cringe. I really tried to like this game but the writing was unbearable. Why can't these people ever take anything seriously in writing? It's just like Borderlands 2. Nothing ever means anything and it's all for a stupid punchline.

To be fair the entire premise of the game isn't serious and it just gets cringier as we all get older.

do you think everything should be a big joke? Is that somehow better? The only thing they took seriously was JackBlack setting himself up with a 20 year old goth girl.

The jokey tone is a cop-out, has always been and I can't give them a pass for this, even if it's heckin Jack Blackerino and the Double Fine guys.
