WHy would you pick standard over high definition?
Because some things don't support HD and you can get a worse display picture and more input lag when you force compatibility.

HDDs for hoarding, SSDs for everything else.

seems like nobody got your joke
how can you be sure that it really was a joke?
there are more idiots posting than there are people who know what subtlety used to be.
Idk, anon. The human eye can't even see in HD. I think israelites are at play here...

I chortled
nobody uses HDDs on purpose still unless it's for high capacity infrequent access
I have almost my entire steam library on an external HDD I access multiple times daily. Games run perfectly fine. I'll use SSD where necessary, but for the most part there's literally no point (apart from the OS obviously). I've said it before, but SSD's mainly benefit games with poor optimisation.
>I've said it before
Yeah and you were just as wrong then as you are now.
You know I'm right. The difference between HDD and SSD for over 95% of games is utterly negligible. More space for less money with basically no performance loss.
funny as frick cope.
you're an idiot
I bet can't define cope in this context.
>less money
see above
Ssds are dirt cheap now and so are nvme's.
I build my first pc 10 years ago, and I never used a hdd.
Wel, I did in the 90's, but you get the idea.
what a bizarre assertation
>The difference between HDD and SSD for over 95% of games is utterly negligible
You were wrong 6+ years ago, imagine how wrong you are today.
You're poor
now that's a cope and you know it
Wrong. I love the sound hdd makes when Windows forcibly scans my disks whenever I don't touch the mouse for 5 minutes.
I use Hudson. Meme load times don't matter to me at all. Plus I like to smoke or sip my drink while loading and more and more games lack a fricking pause feature
>waiting is better
what a waste of life
disc based storage because I like to own my games
Your minds gonna be blown when you figure out what an HDD is
i'm a poorgay neet and I have a 512gb sata ssd, getting a 1tb nvme soon
>nvme
Enjoy your dead SSD.
I just migrated my 512GB M.2 to a 1TB. When you get around to doing that, I suggest you use Minitool Partition Wizard, specifically the 10.0 version since the newer ones paywall OS migration.
Installed games go on SSDs, game ISOs go on HDD.
SSD are Fake Storage.
You are a fake storage
Explain?
I keep my OS and essential software on nvme, keep my games on hdd and if a game really benefits from a faster drive (which is rare) I put them on my sata ssd
HDD for storage, SSD for OS. I don't play AAA kusoge so there is no real difference for gaming.
i use sshd
Absolutely pathetic

AAA (real) video games? SSD

how does Ganker come up with these jokes
Poorgays.
Mad, seething poorgays.
You should have seen the threads when Starfield's page said it would require a SSD. Nothing has convinced me more that this board is populated by nothing but third-worlders (poor), children (can't convince mom to buy them one) contrarians (people unironically saying HDDs are fine and SSDs aren't that great) and baitBlack folk (see above but "ironically").
I still have one in my laptop. It's become extremely obvious to me that it's the primary bottleneck when I'm trying to do anything. Not to mention how inefficient modern Windows is, constantly hogging disk read/write whenever I'm trying to do shit.
why would I throw out a perfectly good drive?
Switched to SDD recently. It's cool but infuriating having loading screens finish instantly when there's stuff to read. Ex. ending text screen acting as a loading screen. Other than that, it's great
SSD*
>Solid Disk Drive
Hilarious, I fricked up but thanks for that.
Stop being poor and just get an SSD they are cheap right now
what a joke
does apple think we still live in 2005?
Just typical Apple overpricing literally everything. But it works because people eat up brands.
Doesn't matter - the cattle will buy regardless.
what the frick, I can get 2TB nvme for $100, apple gays are a literal cattle
>Soul vs souless
I even have an SSD on my PS4 Slim. A Samsung 870 QVO.
>tfw i was dumb and didnt know shit about how computers work and thought the OS was supposed to go on the HDD
if i use nvme adapter on pcie slot will it affect gpu performance ?
Who the frick uses a HDD? You can buy a 1TB SSD for less than 50 bucks these days.
How do either of these magic rocks store information
lightning n shiet
hey alright.
It's not lightning, it's magnetism. For discs, you essentially you have an enormous amount of tiny sections of the disk (only a few hundred nanometers in size) that are either magnetized N>S or S>N. One is interpreted as 1 and the other is 0. These are known as bits and it's up to the other components of the hard drive and computer to interpret what said 1s and 0s mean in a given sequence.
In solid state drives (flash memory) an electrical current is applied to a floating gate (a silicone-based semiconductor) to indicate whether or not electrons should be allowed to pass through the gate, indicating whether it is a 1 or 0. The binary data is then interpreted by the PC using the same method as discs. In simple terms, since a SSD uses no moving parts their data can be read faster by the PC than it can be from a disc which is physically limited by how fast the disc can spin.
Both solutions are primitive and cumbersome. Only humans think this is advanced.
watch this video its very detailed and quite interesting and nobody can convince me this isnt alien tech
It really is alien tech, i work in IT and i often tell my colleagues that everything we do is literally like magic. Like just imagine it, you can communicate with someone on the other side of the planet in real time...
Almost in real time. Light still takes time to travel through the optical fiber, and the signal also needs to be processed on both ends.
They put demons in the silicon.
HDD, the reliable tried and true technology. Have fun having your memory blocks degrade and go out one by one. I don't have ADHD so I don't mind waiting 3 seconds instead of 1 second. The only game that exists that requires SSD is Star Citizen.
My SSD is now 11 years old and still works fine. I remember when people were claiming they would last 3 years at the most. I remember people claiming denuvo would absolutely destroy them. Neither claims have come true for me.
This. My first SSD that I bought 14 years ago still works to this day and is in use as my dad's OS drive on his laptop. Every SSD I've ever owned still works to this day. Pretty much any modern SSD you buy these days is going to last a stupid amount of time unless you're running a server or something.
Thats impressive. I had a Toshiba SSD for OS and small games, WD HDD for big games/misc. Toshiba went out within warranty, got a new one. Eventually that one went out too. Used the HDD as my main drive and eventually that went out as well. Honestly 7200rpm is perfectly fine for gaming, but there's no real reason for them with how cheap SSDs are now.
The HARD drive gets my H-games
The SOFT drive gets my other games
the SSD meme is the biggest "BUY NEW THING" meme corporations has managed to fool gamers into thinking they have to buy. I upgraded to a SSD and there's not much of a different at all, just a few games actually benefits from a SSD
The last time I used a HDD was like 15 years ago.
There is no reason to ever use a hdd when ssd's are so easily obtainable
1TB nvme dual boot setup for OS
2TB nvme for games
20TB hdd for storing media collection
SSDbros, what was the first game you noticed a huge difference when using a SSD?
All of them
Load times arent even comparable
all of them, but i kinda miss cycling through loading screen tips and seeing game lore on loading screens.
Fallout 4 was the game that made me switch back in the day. On my old 7200RPM HDD the load times were so fricking slow, especially if you left your character in the fricking city. Switching to a SSD cut load times like 80%, it was wild. Other than that, there wasn't a huge difference in most games until the current gen. Using a HDD with current gen games is fricking unplayable. The hugest difference is outside of playing when you're modding and you're dealing with massive gigabytes of files and patchers and extracting zip files. Things that took like 30 minutes to do before now suddenly take like a few minutes.
>Fallout 4
ahhh yes, more fps you get during loads = faster loads
bethezda magic!
Probably Civ 4
i have not experienced pc gaming without an ssd
How quickly my computer booted and how quickly programs loaded (web browser with a saved session especially) way back in the day when I got one of the pretty early 64GB models. We've come a long way.
No Man's Sky. I don't know how I played it before that.
Fallout 4, and for pretty much what
said. And it's a really cheap Kingston too.
Most of the reason I haven't upgraded to better SSDs is because those typically require you to change your motherboard to have compatible shit like NVME if you want anything higher than 0,5GB/s and motherboards are more expensive.
Real yakuza use a hard disk drive.
Path of Exile. Game's fricking unplayable without it, because Chris is a turboisraelite who doesn't want to allocate man hours to optimization.
GTA 5, the fricking HDD took almost 10 minutes to load.
When I got to experience and SSD and an HDD at the same time. SSD loads files much faster.
NVme ssd's are super cheap right now.
Get a 970 Evo Plus 1tb for less than $50.
Be careful picking one with DRAM cache. A Samsung 990 without dram cache is 10x worse than a 970 Evo Plus with a 1GB DRAM cache.
Cache full = file transfer speed drops to 20mb/s which is at least 3x slower than a mechanical drive.
Simple chart:
Samsung 990 = No DRAM = TRASH.
Samsung 990 Pro = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 990 Evo = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 980 = No DRAM = TRASH.
Samsung 980 Pro = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 980 Evo = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 970 = No DRAM = TRASH.
Samsung 970 Pro = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 970 Evo = 1gb DRAM = Good.
Samsung 970 Evo Plus = 1gb DRAM = Good.
I also use HDD for torrents ect. But remember if you have a single HDD in your pc, it will slow your pc boot speed by at least 10 seconds. Bios wont post until HDD has finished spinup, there is no way around it.
>if you have a single HDD in your pc
seriously?
That's true. I'm speaking from experience.
whats the longterm life of "normal" ssds and the new nvme ones?
ages. its not 2008 anymore when ssds were overly sensitive and needed new firmware 3 times a week.
Most will last around 10 years, unless you buy some cheap one. If you're lucky they can last even longer tho, all depends on how much you use it.
What SSD brands do you guys recommend?
whichever one has the best tbw warranty
You really can't go wrong with any of the major brands (Samsung, WD, Crucial, Kingston, etc.) so its really just finding the best price/warranty among them. Avoid SSDs from no one name brands and ones that are significantly cheaper than the competition.
Master and Slave PATA drives.
The chad spinny destructo disc versus the virgin lazy chips
I only use my 6 hdd for my 20tb+ collection of jav movies
any raid or backup or are you just a free homie
Just use Raid 5 or 6 if you're really paranoid, anything else is moronic.
is it worth jumping to a gen4 drive? games seem to be in no hurry to use directstorage yet.
i can't even afford a 50$ used rx580, so ssd is still very expensive for me
>leave 10% of your ssd empty
Real or meme?
You should leave a decent amount of space open for any drive, that includes HDDs.
No point since all modern ones already do that by default
over provisioning is all done on the drive itself. ssds have come leaps and bounds since the 00s and take care of themselves. generally you leave some free space on a drive for things like 'insurance' for bad sectors (mech hdds) and op for ssds but that's handled by the drive itself. seriously its not the 00s anymore you don't have to walk on eggshells for ssds anymore.
SSDs are goyslop for ADHD zoomers who are addicted to instant gratification.
Only boomers and millenials understand the true kino of waiting for loading times, or hearing your hard drive "thinking".
It also made death in video games far more impactful since you knew that if you fricked up you'd have to wait 5 hours for the level to load again and alone with your thoughts pondering where did it all go wrong.
As such I do declare that playing games on anything but a hard disk (and with a CRT ofcource) is souless and possibly communist.
Holy shit, this post reeks of misplaced arrogance.
>As such I do delcare
Take this fedora and get out
>and with a CRT ofcource
Now we're talking.
No I need more.
inb4 raid 0
What are you even storing? For what purpose?
What aren't you storing?
love 🙁
Because I consoomed enough media to the point where anything barely interests me anymore besides a few games every year, I've got no real reason or desire to
Your turn
You could be storing all of the things you DO like, anon. When the internet is finally killed, i'll still have everything.
Like what? All those TV shows you'll never watch? If there's a scenario where the internet gets killed then the world has much bigger problems and having electricity in your house is going to be the least of your problems
"the internet never forgets" is a common misconception. The only things the internet never forgets is the things YOU specifically don't want it to remember. Everything else will either eventually be paywalled to high heaven or simply lost media. Yes, even that one doujin you've read numerous times because it hits all your favorite tags will eventually be gone unless you make sure to archive it yourself.
If you like it then save it. And remember to do backups every once in a while.
>or simply lost media
This, specially with music. I have several dozen songs that are literally impossible to find through any music service or search engine.
Oh yeah absolutely, saving some things you really enjoy is fine, but hoarding the entire internet is dumb
>870 evo
RIP your data, hope there isn't anything important on there
What raid are you using?
This is the reason why I decided to never store TV shows.
I have a 500GB SATA SSD + 1TB HDD. I run my OS and multiplayer games on the SSD (GTA V, CS II) and any new release slop that requires an SSD (Cyberpunk 2077). On the HDD I keep all the older games or easy to run 2D games like (Terraria, Stardew Valley, The Witcher, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, etc.)
HDD for everything
SSD for unoptimized AAA garbage
SSD. HDDs don't have a point in PCs anymore
SSDs are so cheap nowadays that you have to be moronic to still use HDDs
>overwatch installed on nvme ssd
>it does something on launch that checks all the disks, including spinning up my slow as shit hdd
Why? It makes launching it slow every time.
You mean Overwatch the game? You deserve to have all your drives crash and burn
I have the OS on my HDD but my games on SSD.
I use a Solidus State drive
HDD is objectively perfectly fine for every game that launched before 2020/PS5. Sadly every game post 2020 and optimized for PS5's SSD speed cannot run well on HDDs. The fake loading screens in stuff like Spider-Man or God of War or Cyberpunk or anything modern absolutely rape HDDs and make the games unplayable.
whats a GOOD CASE to house ALL the storage?
>there are "people" in this thread who don't have big hdds for hoarding media
Sad. Literally no excuse for not having your own personal library of everything you want in the digital age.
You still need to download everything first
And when you download it, you're gonna watch it
So what's the point of hoarding all that crap? 30 years from now you're going to show your favorite chinese cartoons to your grandkids?
How many video games do you consider so good that you know you'll replay them in 20 or 30 years? Obsessive hoarders don't actually watch or play all the shit they have stored, they just do it because they need to
>i never ever want to rewatch anything ever
sounds like you're just watching garbage
Yes I do, enlighten me with your superior taste anon and give me examples
I have two NVME drives, one for boot and another for just games. Then I have a higher capacity HDD for my data that I backup to a seperate external drive every couple of months.
the only thing i cared enough to hoard was every original bbc rip of every top gear because all the gay ass streaming sites like amazon kept editing them, changing music, and "other" streaming sites only had them in such shit quality i had enough of it.
my line of work requires me to have HDD's stored like they are some kind of books. SSD's are great because they have no moving apart, but they cannot take a beating.
>2TB SSD for vidya + programs with 8TB HDD for storage
I hope all of you do this.
My OS + All the programs I use take up less than 50GB. I don't need anything but one 1TB SSD. I delete the games once I 100% them and they have no multiplayer. And all my photos and uni/work related things are saved on Google Drive. There is literally no need for any HDD "storage', it's obsolete in 2023. Streaming services and piracy exists, and my fast internet speeds gets me whatever I want in minutes.
>But what if le society collapses and internet dies
I'll have bigger problems than goyslop not being on my drives.
>There is literally no need for any HDD "storage', it's obsolete in 2023
You could not have been more wrong now. Piracy sites and media sharing websites are slowly dying, torrents with dead seeds, streaming has edited content or of shitty quality, or even doesn't exist. We now have more services that are fully online where you can't even own the things you buy.
Maybe you don't care about this stuff because it personally doesn't affect you, but anyone savvy enough should realize where we're headed and do their due diligence in case the internet becomes even more restricted than before.
I have yet to encounter music, anime, manga, books, movies, tv shows, or games that I cannot download through various means. Everything is easier than ever to get, with the exception of some incredibly niche things that I don't care about.
>I have yet to encounter music, anime, manga, books, movies, tv shows, or games that I cannot download through various means
I still have some issues where the niche shit I like can't be found in good quality. Again, if it personally doesn't affect then congrats, but I still think if you liked something, download it just in case.
Fair. I think there's definitely a reason to save stuff that you care about and it has no safe backups on the net.
Relax Black personcattle.
How are you preventing that by saving porn on your HDDs? You are not Johnny Silverhand, relax little buddy.
>calling other people cattle when you trust greedy israelites to preserve things you like
I mean, what is the alternative you propose? Say that the greedy israelites turn on us and take away all our data and we lose all the cloud backups like Google Drive. Do you not realize that we'd have bigger issues then, like the fact that at that point our government would also either have to be completely lost and submissive to corpos or be completely tyrannical and controling of us? You saving some meme games and videos on your HDDs is not preventing it in any way, the only way you could be preventing it is through activism in which you try to convert normal people to trust them less, but you have obviously no intention or capability of that when you just lash out at normal people for wanting convenience and not caring about grim post apocalyptic future scenarios.
>I mean, what is the alternative you propose?
Download shit, moron. You keep it forever and can upload it for others if it disappears. Owning things is good.
I have no reason to because it's inconvinient. I use tech to help me with daily life, my life does not revolve around tech. Having my uni/work related stuff accessible at all times on my g-drive is very important to me, otherwise I'd have to carry a USB stick with me at all times and bother with copy pasting everything manually. I also don't want to risk HDD failiure when I use steam for cloud save and game backups which is much more convenient on my one SSD. And I can't avoid spyware since I need social media and a phone to stay in touch with my work, uni, family, friends, and gf. It's literally not possible for me to lead your lifestyle unless I became a hermit. You need to find alternatives that don't make people society outcasts by refusing to participate in anything that other people do.
if you're too dumb to figure out how to pirate things then you deserve to lose everything
Wdym I've been pirating things with qbitorrent from TPB before and 1337x/rarbg.to later forever. I just find DDLs and streaming sites more convenient today. If I want to try a new game out I'd rather get it from gog-games if available rather than worrying about low seeders.
>safe backups on the net.
There is no safe online backups. Any site you use could be gone tomorrow for no reason. Only safe storage is on your harddisks.
>it hasn't happened to me yet so why would I worry about it
How would you have felt if you didn't eat breakfast yesterday morning?
>muh breakfast
This is such a moronic fotm gotcha. I refuse to believe people are actually using it unironically.
Not everyone eats breakfast but if I answer with "indifferent, because I don't eat breakfast" you'll still sperg out and go HAHAHAHA NPPCCCCCCCCCCCCC I WON HAHAHAHAH!
Their dream is to have centralised and moderated commercial internet. Just remember this thread when you log in with your id card in 2032, just like the Chinese do today.
Give it time. Sources for all your favorite anime are rotting constantly. One day you'll want to watch something from your youth and you'll find your local copy bitrotted and all the torrents are dead and mega is gone. Is it worth the time and money to backup and archive your shit? Probably not. But just know that one day you'll be slightly disappointed and have to watch NGE on Netflix instead of what you actually intended.
I just watch all my movies/shows on fmovies.to and all my anime on 9anime. I've been using them for the past 5 years and yet to have anything missing. The game cracking industry is obviously struggling nowadays but I've started using Steam since I got a job anyways since I like having everything in one place and being able to chat with my vidya friends there.
>NGE on Netflix
The mere thought of a israeliteflix cut wokified Eva is making my skin crawl, and I don't even care about Eva. Other than Best Girl Rei™ that is.
>Piracy sites and media sharing websites are slowly dying
If anything, I see new shit comming up every month. Piracy is even more wild now thanks to Telegram/Discord where you can simply talk to Pirates and ask for shit.
Just because "well known site" gets nuked, it does not mean "piracy is dying". Finally brainlets are getting cut out from Piracy, and that's a good thing.
>pay your n.123 subscription fee to this shitty drm streaming service goym
>hurrrr mass communication lets you connect with other people easily and the government isn't seeking to control or change that at all
You didn't even fricking read his post, dumbBlack person.
>he does not know
I guess you are one of those brainlets I'm happy to see gone.
>Piracy is even more wild now thanks to Telegram/Discord where you can simply talk to Pirates and ask for shit.

8/10. Where are the entire sets of ROMs and games in general?
Hmmm good suggestions, might need to get a backup of arx fatalis and other games just in case of the great collapse. maybe emulators so I can finally play some ds/psp/vita/ps2/3 and early xbox games?
Good choices. Don't forget about kino VNs, too.
HDD still works fine after like 10 years so il keep using it until it dies
HDD's make everything become slow and their transfer rate with large files takes literal hours. Even slower than a fricking internet connection bro.
>literal hours
>usb 3.x transfers 1gb/s
???
Are you posting from 2014?
The SSD I paid 300 bucks for a couple of years ago now goes for 60, and that was one of the best in the market
There's little no reason to buy HDDs, they'll fall apart in 5 years anyway because of planned obsolescence
Using a HDD today is like using a dial up modem today
there's no reason to use an ssd for storing media other than games
dudes having sex loads too fast for me to hear the awesome load music
You homosexuals will argue over anything
HDD is soul
Saying "HDD is soul" is forced soul
My SSD in theory is about 100x faster than my HDD, but this is reflected in games with only slightly faster loadings, often not even 2x faster. The experience hardly changes at all for me, at least for the games I'm used to playing, I notice sometimes that a loading screen was a bit faster than on the HDD but that's it, I get about 30 seconds less loading for every 1 hour of gameplay which isn't even significant.
One anon explained that Windows is partly to blame and that there is something called DirectStorage that will "revolutionize" the speed of games, especially for nvme SSDs, but until that happens SSDs despite being better is nowhere near being the revolution I thought it would be for gaming.
Just moved to SSD. The difference is PHENOMENAL!
Wtf is that monstrosity on the right? This is an actual SSD.
That's an NVME SSD designed to fit in a certain slot on NVME-compatible motherboards. The OP image SSD is a SATA SSD designed to fit with the SATA interface that helps storage drives communicate with the computer.
Ssd is always a better option but sdd die faster than hdd, i was blown away when i switch to ssd my pc boot within 2-3 seconds
Same here. I don't know if my old HDD was dying, but Windows used to take about 2 minutes to open and then another 5 minutes before it was usable because the disk was at 100%. all the time and you couldn't do anything... After installing an nvme SSD, Windows boots up and is completely ready for use in like 10 seconds.
Unfortunately the same effect doesn't happen in games. I was hoping that a loading time of 1 minute would be reduced to 5 seconds or something, but that is not how it happens, what used to take 1 minute will take about 40 seconds now hopefully...
I have a nvme ssd and mine still takes like 20 seconds to boot...
Never tried ssd. Thinking of giving it a try next month. Only thing its a pain in the fricking ass, reinstalling the whole system and making copies of shit i currently have
You can just image your drive and redeploy it on the SSD, since the SSD is so fast it doesnt even take much time.
SSD failure means you can't write any more data in it, but your pc can still read it so it's never as bad as a critical HDD failure where a mechanical part is broken and you're essentially shit out of luck.
Maybe i should out some of games on my SSD. Always worried about the thing getting worn out but i guess that only happens from extreme usage?
hdd only224844
If you're still using a HDD for anything but storing your reaction images, you're fricking moronic. Can't believe the amount of pissing and moaning I saw over Starfield demanding an SSD in 2023. HDDs have not been suitable for modern games since 2014 at the earliest.
take your meds
hdd>ssd
>Why yes I do enjoy waiting five minutes for my game to load the next level, how could you tell?
Loading speed mostly depends on what files are used in any given environment which have to be loaded to apply textures, collisions, maps, behavior etc. basically everything that's going to be used in a given level.
SSDs are great but games haven't advanced all that much, and lately the trend is for AAAs to make really sloppy, unoptimized messes and then leave the burden of running the spaghetti monstrosity to the user. Starfield demanding SSDs is a poor omen as a result and it could very well be a No Man's Sky situation where most of the loading is used on wide stretches of nothing important.
>Starfield demanding an SSD
What? Thats the first im hearing of it. What did they do?
hdds still exist?
Only HDD for me
HDD have soul. i dont need to buy SSD for 20sec faster loading in games....... frick that have few big HDD and they are super good.
games are to big now for SSD. HDD is superior now.
>games are to big now for SSD
Only if you're poor. HDDs will hit their size limit long before SSDs do LOL
SSD i expensive if you want 8TB + so dont lie c**t
As many others mentioned here. SSD is good only for system boot, if you like 30sec faster loading. for game due to capacity HDD only
hdd for porn, ssd for bideo games
anything else said in this thread is a lie
for games i use HDD
SDD for system, some frequently used slow loading software
HDD for rest including vidya (you shouldn't be playing 500 GB goyslop in the first place. have some standards)
games are now 15GB plus size. good and big SSD cost to much and are not worth buying. So for games only HDD
i mean 150GB*
>good and big SSD cost to much
The frick are you taking about? A 2TB SSD runs for $100 now, that's cheap as frick.
2tb is nothing. games are 125gb now
8tb ssd cost 500€ +
>2tb is nothing. games are 125gb now
My advice is to stop playing garbage, and that's still 12 games. You do not need that many installed. I've seen you queers who do this, you play one game for half-an-hour a day. You're one step above a Steam game collector, as in you install shit and just don't play them.
I just googled 8tb ssd and immediately was shown one for 395. thats almost exactly what

thats still cheap, but also more than enough anyway, what exactly is your problem.
if you are not playing a game right now, delete it, what moron has a thousand steam games installed at the same time?
500€ i low entry bad ones.
i use hdd for everything. no need to change for 30sec faster loading
>all the poorgay coping in this thread
Hilarious, it explains so much.

>Poorgay thinks $100 is no different to a million
Back to Brazil, poorgay.

>HURR WHO NEEDS A ONE MILLION DOLLAR SSD?
>I-IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY
>2TB Crucial SSD runs for $100 and is more than enough for everything
2TB its nothing for games when games are 150gb plus size mongol. you can put your 2tb ssd up your arse mongol

you are low iq mongol. dont have any interesting fact to add lel you only spam low iq platitude. ssd are worst if its coming to reliability, cost to much if you are not poor gay like you and buy low capacity ......... eh peopel like you are cancer of this site
Brexit inflation stretching your wallet a bit thin, guvna?
Yup. My theory that Ganker is at least 50% third world Black folk is starting to seem more plausible.
SSD are only faster 20/40 seconds. they gona die faster and cost more. i dont see a point to buy onw atm. maybe for system boot. buy i dont need that, im fully fine with wit my 1min20sec HDD boot
Absolute fricking cope.
>sdd die faster than hdd
Modern SSDs last for 10+ years.
whatever Sony put in my console
HDD for older games, SSD for new ones.
>why would you use an HDD
Most PC cases still have slots for them. If you're slotmaxxing, HDDs are inevitable.
SSD gona die much faster. not to mention its way easy to put viruses on ssd then hdd.
for security purposes i use hdd
Brahs I’ve been using an HDD for a few years because my dad had an extra one. My games and my whole life’s works are in there. Is there anything I need to worry about?
>all these homosexuals having more than 2TB in raid 0
YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE TO BLAME FOR YOUR INABILITY TO UNDERSTAND YOUR MISTAKES.
YOU ARE NO HOARDERS, YOU ARE JUST FOOLS.
YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR FILES BURN, YOU ARE JUST FILTH ROAMING THIS EARTH.
HDD will last you few more years then ssd. you dont need worst experience on long run imo. always chose hdd
HDD for storage. SSD for the PC.
There is literally no reason why you should use an hdd over an ssd in 2023
Soul vs souless
HDDs since I live in a shit country and SSDs that have enough space to install games or hoard files cost literally the same as a 8Tb HDD.
Do SSDs come in TB capacities and if so how much are they compared to HDDs of the same capacities?
And by "how much are they" I mean their prices.
HDD all the way
>HDD all the way
interesting topic. for me its hdd. more games gona use ssd support i see. but if they dont make hdd support too, they goan losoe customers imo not everyone is looking for 30/40sec faster loadout
HDDs have lost at 2TB
everyone i know use max 2tb ssd. they cant even have 20 AAA games stored... not to ention movies/series ect wait until games gona be 200GB and hses poeple need to upgrade they ssd lol
I keep my smaller and more indie games on a platter drive since using that space on one of my ssd's is a waste.
For big and online games, yeah, those practically need an ssd.
Enter.
SSD are forced speed
so is RAID
Yes.
>2023
>People still using HDD's in their gaming rigs
Even my entire work organization is fully equipped with SSD drives, we only have some HDD's running on the servers.
Get with the times grandpa. It's fairly cheap to upgrade and should even be a question.
HDD is objectively better for video games. Contrary to mainstream opinion loading times are barely affected so long as you invest enough into the HDD. It's just different forms of the same technolgy.
why do you act moronic on purpose? do you really need this YOU so much? wtf drives a man to act like a fricking moron?
>falls for propaganda
>thinks SSDs outperform HDDs
I feel sorry for you. This is not the case for 99% of games.
lol @ poorgays
How is Crucial anyways?
THinking of getting some ram for my laptop.
WD one is the only good one there rest are QLC trash
They're all dramless drives and QLC. Maybe dram doesn't matter for games, but is still nice to have
I moved my multiplayer shit to my hdd after some anon was seething about loading times in his games kek good times
Used to use SSD, went back to HDD to use load times for some quick exercises, stretching, water and pissing
hold on
Don't trust SSDs. First they were a scam to trick people into spending more money on less storage but the recent price drop is just suspicious. I fear that more might be going on.
>get HDD and SSD
>HDD dies in 3 years
>SSD still operational with 79% RW cycles remaining
Yeah, HDDs are a fricking scam.
Not to mention the slow ass speed and high noise (loudest part of my build).
Schizo.
my SSD died in 6 years
my hybrid drive still works
holy shit ssds btfo
>Not having both for different uses
Why do you have so many drives yet so much free space?
i have an HD/SD
I expected to this thread to be nothing but "nobody uses hdds anymore, moronic ass thread op" but apparently I underestimated the amount of pathetic ass poorshits there were on Ganker. Bravo OP.
have fun with your drive which fails after writing a single 4 kb text document to it once. there goes 400 dollars moron
Get a job you pathetic waste of life.
>8TB of SSD storage
>32TB of HDD storage
why not both?
After trying to play minecraft on my SSD and noticing literally no difference whatsoever in load times, I came to the conclusion that SSDs are absolutely pointless for gaming.
They're only good for the OS.
Alright let's get some use out of this thread.
Recommend best SSDs.
samsung
Kingston KC3000 / Fury Renegade for durability and overall price to performance.
Otherwise Samsung Evo 980 plus.
Crucial MX500 / Samsung 870 evo for SATA.
Seagate Nytro 5350 if you have a spare 2k dollarydoos.
>Samsung
I don't want my drive to instantly lose 60% of it's durability
Holy shit it was one model and a single shitty firmware version that got patched months ago.
*grinding sounds as HDD spins to life*
my 840 evo is at 93% after 88,000GB writes from 2016, hasn't budged ever since.
Literally all of them. They're all flash.
I only play old emulated games, HDD is better for me
SSD. HDD is for bulk archival storage because it offers more bytes per dollar.
SSD for PC Games, OS, Music and Film Production
HDD for Emulation and (Old) films/anime, Music, etc.
>HDD for Emulation and (Old) films/anime, Music, etc.
Literally what the frick is the benefit?
Space for archival, you don't need load speed
I'm playing on a portable SSD for 4 years now.
Zoomers will suffer when the net goes down and they don't have their own curated archives.
Buddha teaches, the cloud is just someone elses computer and file sharings sites can be brought low. He also teaches, obscure software may not be easily found so save it when you find it.
i have a 1tb ssd my OS is installed on and a 1tb HDD for the shit that cant fit on my SSD so both
If you're using your SSD for anything other than your OS, you're a complete fricking moron. lol.
You sound poor
I'm a trust fund baby, which is why I'm sitting on Ganker at 12pm on a Monday. What's your excuse, pal?
Storagelets don't need to weigh in
>optical drives
how much of it is dolphin porn?
The overwhelming majority of the pools
I have 2x2TB SN850X drives I don't know what to fill with.
SSD for more demanding games.
HDD for the older or less demanding ones.
Why should I have a Solid State? A Hard Drive with platters works fine for me. I have a 3TB in my desktop.
What is the cheapest reliable NON-QLC 8TB SSD I can buy?
