After a lot of troubles I finally put an IPS screen in my GBA. It looks really good. I also tried to put one in my GBA SP but that one is (currently) fricked because I cleaned the button contacts and didn't know you're not supposed to. I also messed up my GBA's speaker but that was easy to replace.
Yes but you have to use the physical touch contacts pre-soldered in
just reshelling cheap damaged ags-101s on ebay. my favorite is the fug one, the internals were from the ags-101 I had dropped and broke as a kid. and I just kept the parts in my closet.
I have a GBA with one of the old 101 kits that I modded a few years back. It's not very bright but it's still the nicest looking backlit screen for a GBA imo.
I would like to do some capture card modded DSes at some point so I can have footage of my shinies but I don't have a dremel and also I'm afraid of fricking up the plastic, my personal phat DS feels really fragile from age.
I dabble in it, yes. I'm not good at it. I wanted to give my old GBA that I grew up with new life, so I bought a new shell, new buttons, an IPS v2 screen, a new speaker, an amp chip, a dehum/dehiss chip for the audio, and a rechargeable battery. But upon soldering in the dehum/dehiss kit my GBA now won't stay on for more than a moment, so either a fuse on the circuitboard blew out or the power switch is dirty and needs to be desoldered to be cleaned or replaced. It's a lot of work and I'm not really sure where to go at it.
no and i hate the "culture" of basedjaks around it
just buy a gameboy micro off mercari or yahoo where youll get it cheap theres 0 problems with it as long as your not an ogre man plus the 001 screen is literally fine as it is
(or just get a ds lite)
there is 0 reason to play crystal over gs other than being able to get evolution stones slightly easier and it shouldnt have released outside of japan in the first place
idk I just buy chink handhelds and throw roms into them, they've gotten super good in the last 3 years, pic related has been my go-to for gameboy games.
Great build quality, buttons feel amazing, rechargeable usb-c battery lasts all day, great colorful and bright screen, I have no reason to mess up with real hardware and carts really
Not really, though eventually I would like to get an IPS screen for my GBA so I can actually see it.
I'd like an IPS screen sure, but can I install it without having to solder a cable onto the GBA's circuitry?
IIRC, you can but you don't get any brightness control.

I put an IPS kit in mine, but that combined with my flash cart eats through batteries like nothing.

The Micro doesn't support GBC games.
everdrive
Doesn't play Crystal.

Almost every rom hack is of Crystal as well.

what is that one called?
I think I am going to buy a DS because I want to help improve emulation accuracy so I have to use the original hardware as reference.
I do own my old GBC, GBA SP and 3DS
Isn't 3DS's backward compatibility hardware-based? I'd imagine it's 100% accurate.
Make a better version of Goomba instead.
