Does anyone know anything more about the cut open world from pick related?

Does anyone know anything more about the cut open world from pick related? We know for a fact based on old interviews and the leaked script that the game was gonna have an open world at some point in the games development and we have found a map in the files that seems to be the remnant of the open world with a layout similar to the one of NMH1 and a bunch of untextured and unfinished areas. I recently replayed the game and there is a bunch of stuff that feels like it would have made more sense with the open world, the Akashic Points that teleport you to some of the missions make more sense with the open world in mind, similarly the 2nd rank fight being in a secret area by “the heroes face” seems to be something that would make more sense with the open world, instead of simply teleporting you to a stage with a big Travis mural like the final game it would make more sense to have to search it out in the open world. Then of course you have the credits sequence being a drive through of Santa Destroy that again corresponds to the layout in NMH1 and the final job mini game being in engine in the nuclear disposal yard instead of an 8-bit throwback. This all seems to suggest that the open world would have played a bigger part in the game before getting shafted but people don’t really seem interested in datamining the game for more info.

NMH2 isn't worth that kind of effort. It's the worst of the four games.

2 had the best music, characters and story, basically the only things that matter in NMH games.

While you're probably baiting 2 genuinely has really good gameplay and has tech like parries, wallsplats, juggles, reversals etc that gives it a lot more depth than the rest of the series and let's a really good player get through the game almost flawlessly. If you master the parry even the final boss that everyone complains about isn't that tricky.

The assassins in 2 are easily some of the worst, I have no idea what you are smoking. Henry's chick and the guy from the intro are the only good ones at all. Margaret is only good for REAPER REAPER not the actual fight. lmao2destroyman wasn't fun it was just an annoying fight due to having to kill them within a few seconds of each other. Then you get to Beat of all things.

Let's also not forget Travis goes after his brother's mentally ill sloppy seconds over best girl.

Yes, it's literally in the first webm. That doesn't change the fact that's he's beyond moronic going after Sylvia especially after she lied to him during all of 1 and Henry divorced. At the very least go with Naomi or something dear lord.

It's for the best. 3's implementation of the open world really shows how exploring Santa Destroy was best left as a one and done thing. You've already got the commentary on the daily grind and open world games from NMH1, just leave it behind and flesh out other things.

To be fair, Grashopper was a way bigger studio during the NMH2 days than it is now. Say what you want about the game itself but NMH2 clearly has bigger production values than NMH3 and until e-girlpop Chainsaw (which is still their biggest success) NMH1 was the big moneymaker at Grashopper. Modern day Grashopper is only about 20 people, NMH2 was the start of their AAA-days and for all the flaws of the games they made during that era Shadows of the Damned, e-girlpop Chainsaw and Killer is Dead clearly had a lot more money put into them than NMH3 did. I think Suda and pals could have done something more interesting with the open world if they had more time, or maybe it was actually cut because it sucked ass who knows.

It got cut due to time and budget, I'm not sure what else you can glean from it

There’s a lot of interesting shit about the open world in 1 too that people don’t really talk about. You have the fridge in your apartment that supposedly heals you but you can’t be hurt in the open world so it’s useless, you also have the phone that never have any messages outside of cutscenes. We know for a fact that in early builds of the game Travis could kill pedestrians and we also know that Travis was originally supposed to do research on the targets before going after them so these aspects are probably remnants of these ideas. Similarly there are a bunch of areas in the open world that has a fixed camera angle despite never having any relevance at all.

Remember that sole 3D job in the game? the one where you pick up scorpions like in part 1 in the big desert field.

If you ignore the mission and walk to the bottom left edge of the map where the gate is slightly open and QSS, you can actually wiggle out of bounds and get into Santa Destroy proper and there's surprisingly a ton of collision in the streets. The new high-rise buildings (like Pizza Bat) that weren't in the original game are really cool to see and make me believe they probably did intend to make it open world but were short on budget and time for 2010.

Hopefully if they ever remake NMH1 and 2 they turn 2 into a fully open world sequel.

Anon, I have bad news for you. Suda already said if he were to redo NMH1, he'd remove the open world and make it level based.

No More Heroes 3 is an absolute travesty and I hope that there is no more no more heroes games.
