They should be unlocked early but I don't like them being unlocked from the start if they reward gear. There is enjoyment and prestige attached to clearing with lower gear, especially as a healer - I found that in BiS reclears half of my previously vital heals are now needless. One could imagine an alternate system of raiding where they're always locked at min ilvl so that's not an issue, but that's not what we have.
Do ultimates if you want to feel like that. Savage shouldn't suffer from it.
savage and the criterion dungeons are the only places where your item-level actually matters in the long run

Yeah the fights are fun to prog and get the execution right on. Theyte not really very fun to farm but the initial prog time is pretty great.
I get wanting to do more content, but more than four boss raids WILL get stale and you WILL complain about them.
It's also more fights you'll have to do to get your BiS and if you're stuck early, you will miss out on even more loot.
I wouldn't mind other things on savage tier, but Criterion has proven that nobody will simply do them long enough without good rewards. Rewards like upgrades or gear that could become mandatory for savage raids, making content more of a job if you're in that kind of static.

I don't know what you actually expect out of an MMORPG but not a single one that's lasted has ever been a Breath of the Wild tier explorational game.
Proper MMOs build a world and then write a story to take place in the world. FFXIV writes the story and then makes zones for the cutscenes they need, which is why you never go back to them again. For as much as the story jacks off over the idea od adventure, there is absolutely no adventure in this game. There is nothing to explore, there are no secrets to find. And yes, other MMOs do have those things.

They already stated that each shard has its own lifestream. And he died on the First. And he wasn't summoned to the Source like we did with Emet when we used the Azem crystal.
Each shard's Lifestream is connected to the Source. There's a small flow of aether which is the path used to rejoin a shard into the Source. That was explained in ShB. Minfilia and Emet's souls were also brought over.

It's a fun system, it's a satisfying collection, it's a cool title, I made friends while doing it, and there's a lot of lore on offer if you read descriptions.
I do lots of other stuff in the game too but it's a real highlight.
It is pretty comfy, I loved seeing same people going for Ealad at craziest time of the day each window. I kinda stopped fishing for now, but don't regret spending time on it.

I've been waiting for a big Gold Saucer 2.0 update for years. I'm hoping for one more than ever now that FF7Rebirth will come out with their new Gold Saucer. That's what happened last expansion at least, while I was progging E8S so late, there was only one group.
90 percent of the complaints I hear about the game having no content basically boils down to the lack of a proper relic quest, I had no idea that shit was apparently so central to people's enjoyment of the gane, especially considering how endless the batching about Eureka and Bozja was.
That seems to be the main issue of plebbitors, everyone is pissed that relic became a tomedump with no gimmick

Relic grind and an exploration zone kept people busy who wanted to no life the game in the previous two expansions. Those two long grindy pieces of game were removed/ replaced completely so you're left with what it is today.
It's funny because people aren't saying they are done with the game, it's more that they want to play the game, but there literally is nothing to no life in the game if you're a long time player.

aether currents simply let you skip over the entire map because there is no point of interest on the maps worth going to besides following waypoints to continue your quests before you never see the zone again unless you're gathering which usually brings you to some random assortment of trees or a rock wall and not any of the well made parts of the map

not so much a contrarian, i just absolutely despise XIV's constant attempts to optimize the everloving shit out of the time spent in the game because yoship looks at player feedback complaining about winding roads and branching ideas and decides to demolish any mole hills in the game like grind, rotations, and otherwise time spent actually engaging with the game to justify a full price + sub fee and turning everything into a 10 meter dragstrip so a limbless molerat can still reach the finish line for any content in one day if it isn't a savage or ultimate, which is where they've seemingly decided to offload all the midcore and hardcore time spent with the game as we've had the hardest ultimates in the game in EW that are actually just straight up not fun anymore compared to the first three in which they were made back when SB and ShB actually had a substantial amount of content outside of ults and so they were made to give a lasting impression and not be too ballbusting
i cant wait to play dawntrail, the expansion explicitly labeled as our VACATION, to still follow a linear story where I'm forced to sit in a ride with the fan favorite characters again, with level/story gated areas, zero need for exploration or variance in locational fauna besides a hunt target etc, because putting everything in different places and giving the player too many options or reasons to think independently will cause players to complain since their time isn't optimized anymore and start making guides to spend as little time as possible, before watching the same players, both casual and raiders, who put us into this situation in the first place, complain that the game has nothing
I'm now coming to the realization that one of the things that made previous ultimates tolerable is that there were actually things in the same expansion to do during your offtime from prog and you get to talk about the game with your group instead of spending 4 hours per weekend rubbing sandpaper in your face and then never interacting with your raid group again until the next prog weekend

FF16 being PS5 exclusive was what hampered that game from reaching it's potential and I really hope when it does release on PC next year with the 2 dlc stories added, they fix the fricking pacing issues after two boss fights which slowed the game waaaaay down.
Apart from that, FF16 is a very solid, good game.
XIV has always been kinda bad and on the backburner for Square Enix to use to fund other projects that usually end up being mediocre at best. All WoW exploding did was put more eyes on the game for people to see the content droughts, stupid decisions, and greedy practices. Doesn't help that the game is starting to get old and many of the old players are getting tired of the same old excuses.

Fortnite, we know the story there it's an amazing 1 in 1 million lucky break for how successful it is considering what that game was originally meant to be. With that said Epic shut down almost all the other games it had in development for a time to focus completely on Fortnite (rip original Paragons) which SE could have done with FFXIV but they didn't, people forget that for a long time Blizzard was pretty much focused solely on WoW after Starcraft and Diablo were both set out to pasture. SE on the other hand still refuse to reinvest the money FFXIV makes and put it all directly into FFXIV instead they are using that money to prop up moronic decisions like Marvel Avengers, Babylon's Fall and Forspoken.
