You might like Shadow's game. The whole thing is basically a tribute to SA2. They're also re-releasing Generations with some new Shadow content this year along with Sonic 3 (film) which is based on SA2
I liked Heroes and Advance 1 more than Adventure 2. People give Advance games shit but I feel like the first one sort of still felt like a classic Sonic experience. For the most part
It's not the last great Sonic game. That's bull shit that classic elitists/jaded boomers say. There have been plenty of great Sonic games that come out after this. That being said, SA2 is a masterpiece and it's a crying shame they haven't made SA3 yet.
I know it's not retro but unleashed was a good game, up there with both the adventure games in my books. Sad that it's never been re-released, with a few QOL improvements it would probably be recognised as one of the best 3d sonic games.
They really weren't bad, no worse than the mech stages or other playstyles from the adventure games. My main problem with them was just some of the levels being too long, and the stretchy arms should have been more of a focus for the platforming.
I actually think SA1 is decent for attempting to do something different and at the time it looked really impressive. SA2 is garbage though and I don’t know why it gets so much love. It must be some sort of generational thing because I can’t see anyone older than eight years old enjoying it.
Also, Mania was really great
yes. and thats DESPITE the obvious jank, which realistically still puts it at mediocre.
shadow's game was kind of ok, but some stages/missions were fricking awful beyond reason, and the whole gun thing was... weird and pretty dumb.
generations was quaint, and a significant improvement over other shit previous, but it was still lacking (also boost shit).
and everyone saying mania is a fricking moron drone. over 50% copy/pasted old content, and the new shit isnt even that good. some of it, and some the old stuff too, was actual shit. everyone is SO DESPERATE for non-shit sonic content, that replaying old stuff was enough for them to cream their pants that the second coming of christ was nigh.
>everyone is SO DESPERATE for non-shit sonic content, that replaying old stuff was enough for them to cream their pants that the second coming of christ was nigh.
Yes, what's wrong with that? Mania was a great tribute to 90s Sonic games, I'm tired of pf that 'rehashed content' argument. It's not even copypasted like you claim, you act like all of those oldschool zones in Mania like GHZ and CPZ are 1 to 1 recreations of their Mega Drive counterparts. This is just not true. There was so much love put into this game I don't understand how any Sonic fan could hate it
its pretty mediocre, and in no way deserving of the pedestal that you people put it on.
even they arent direct rips, the slight alterations to the 90% the same ripped stage doesnt really amount to much. the bonus stages arent changed at all. and also they did the stupid fricking chase the UFO thing. the caterpillar boss is awful. and the fact that you can fall off the plane is beyond moronic. there were a couple of cute new boss fights (bean machine and controlling eggman's hovercraft) but some dumb ones as well.
cute tribute and fan game or whatever, but it absolutely does not deserve to be praised the way you clods do.
I only played Adventure 1 and 2 and remember being incredibly disappointed by the direction Sonic Heroes took. After (what my childlike mind perceived as) a deep, serious storyline it was weird going back to the vapid HYA-HYUK GOTTA STOP THE EGGMAN AMIRITE MY SONIC HEROES(TM)?!?!?! style of writing. It was the moment I became aware of corporate bullshit.
>a deep, serious storyline
meanwhile >froggy/big >knuckles songs >the dialogue/dubbing in general >chao garden shit
while it did have some darker and serious/cool story beats and moments, you're kidding yourself if you think it didnt have the same schlok as heroes did.
IDK but I think the 3ds theme of it is pretty cool.
Yes
It was the last Sonic game I cared enough about to buy. Mania peaked my interest but I didn't have anything new enough to play it on.
the adventure series is frickin gay.
Yeah pretty much. I thought lost world was alright though.

i don't like shadow's game because i don't like that shadow didn't stay dead
It definitely was.

Sonic Mania changed that
There has never been a great Sonic game
I think that's a fair statement. Frontiers was pretty fun though.

Are you not remembering how lame the werehog sections were?

No, last great sonic game came out on The MD/Genesis

Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed is the best last game featuring Sonic.
I enjoyed Heroes, Generations and Mania
It is the only one I have played and coincidentally it is the only good one.

I liked the GBA games (even Battle) so if any of those came out after SA2 then my answer is no.
