Does it get good?

Seriously what's the appeal?
so far seems like a rollercoaster of a game that takes absolutely no effort, just mindless button mashing
sidequests are literally fetch quests
progression system is bland
combat is dull

It doesn't help that the game treats your char like some badass chosen one, throws giant but helpless monsters your way, which I think you don't even have to do anything to beat, just let the pawns deal with them

100%. I got hyped so I played and finished the first one. From everything I've seen and heard people talk is that the second game is just like the first and that's a good reason. Coping hard to boring world with boring travel is somehow good for this game and bad for games like starfield. It really is just shitty goyslop marketing. Lost 5 bucks but saved 65. Well worth it.

It was more impressive back in 2012. There's plenty of brilliant bits in it. Exploring a dungeon with a lit lantern and a party, the game had that adventure feel at times. I got about 50 hours of enjoyment out of it, and I hope the sequel managed to fulfill the potential.

people who dont like Dragon's Dogma are fine. People who hate Dragon's Dogma wouldnt understand they were being puppetteered if they had a stick up their ass and strings tied to their arms.

Theres just something unsettling about people that are so loud about how little taste or eye for quality they have when they drivel on about how they put 30 seconds into it and didnt like it because everyone told them they liked it.

I'd say nobody cares but how someone could not be amazed at this level of moronation is what id like ot know. Consider what type of person could talk about anything and instead decides to say they dont like this thing everyone else likes.

Quads of truth, satan. Sadly, whenever something is popular on this site, some individuals consider themselves enlightened when they can't find enjoyment on the same things their peers do, so the only conclussion they get is that people are pretending to like something to fit in.

If you're a roleplayer and tasteful RPG enjoyer, it is one of the best games ever made.
If you're an unimaginative underachiever in your life, and reduced to wanting to substitute video games for real life challenges and accomplishments you will say things like "mindless button mashing" and bland, dull etc. You should likely move on to your next 'e-esport' and chase a high you just won't grasp there too since you're not as good as you think you are.

There is no roleplaying in dogshit dogma at all. It's not an rpg in any way whatsoever. There is no commitment to the role and your mage can suddenly forget all spells and become a warrior instead. Game doesn't even even have ANY dialogue options. It's just npcs monologuing at you and sending on fetch quests. World map is small, empty and filled with endlessly respawning mobs in MMO style. It's even worse than other singleplayer mmos like DA:I or Amalur

Or the deeply customizable classes, where every skill is useful and no two players will play one the same?

It's the curse of feckless lads to ever criticize the good in search of the perfection they will never even begin to come close to. The perfect state that exists only in their head, and that disappears over the horizon for every game they play or every activity they being to engage with lest they show the weakness of actually enjoying an activity. Nothing is ever good enough for them for they are the prince of the gutter they lay in, sometimes even under, looking up at the sky, looking up at passersby enjoying their lives.

              >what does this even mean? what is it with channer pseudointellectuals and this platitude in particular?
The culture on this board, being composed of a majority of depressed nerds, many of whom are somewhere on the spectrum, is to relentlessly shit on every game out of a sense of inferiority (crabs in a bucket), and also in an attempt to prove one's superior taste. If I think every game is shit, then it means that no game can reach my exacting standards for quality. If I poo-poo everything, then it must mean that I really know what I'm talking about. Mix this in with a dash of hipsterism (my favorite game? You've probably never heard of it / You're too young to have played it), and, ironically, a dose of a Reddit-esque hivemind behavior, while decrying Reddit and other hiveminds (e.g. RPGCodex), despite the fact that the anonymous nature of imageboard posting should dispel this need. Posters frequently feel the need to acclaim what they feel are a safe, group-approved set of classic-but-not-too-classic RPGs that they believe the group will accept as indicating that they are a RPG connoisseur who knows what they're talking about.

The net result of this is that many posters feel compelled to criticize games that they like, or point out how they're "flawed" or "imperfect" or what have you. Others do this out of a sense of intellectual honesty ("those other Black folk are dishonest fanboys who say X is the greatest game ever with no downsides, while those OTHER Black folk are dishonest haters who say X is the worst game ever with no redeeming values, and I, who like game X, through the Hegelian dialectic, accurately describe its strengths while also acknowledging its weaknesses").

The funny part is, though, you'll very rarely see posters make the simple subjective statement, "I liked the game and thought it was fun." Or, those wise elder anons capable of saying "I can see why some people like it, but I tried it and I didn't care for it. I don't think it's for me."

I enjoyed the game for the first playthrough but after trying to play it again I came to a similar conclusion to OP. Some of the issues are clearly due to time constraints in development but these are the fundamental issues with gameplay that I've noticed that likely wouldn't have gotten better if they had more time to work on the game:
    >Most of the combat is just spamming the the best skills over and over and then playing defensively a bit while you wait for stamina to regenerate.
    >There's a lot of gear slots but there's not much depth to the gear system itself
    >Commanding pawns is very basic so you can't even play as a tactician
    >Schizophrenic stat system where stat growth encourages the player to specialize while augments encourage the player to diversify
    >A pointless amount of items and consumables, half of them could be removed from the game without affecting gameplay

What the game does well is the sense of adventure and some of the enemies feel epic when you fight them first, of course that fades after the first playthrough when you explore the entire map and these epic enemies start to get killed effortlessly.
It's worth maybe one playthrough and NG+, after that the game gets old very quickly. I'm hoping DD2 fixes some of this but from what I've seen it has actually made the game simpler with less gear slots, the only good thing is that stat growth seems to have been removed.

stat growths haven't been removed, it's just that changing your vocation reallocates all the stats you've gained from leveling, so you don't have to worry about missing 30% of your damage if you switch from assassin to sorceror, on the downside you can no longer max stamina and then use that for all vocations

        >but a ton of flaws
It really is flawed. There's an intricate system of debuffs and skills underneath the hood but none of them are useful. Why bother with debuffs and fancy moves when you can just light attack everything to death.
It's primarily a problem of design and balance.
The vast majority of enemies in Gransys also don't really have any debuffs at their disposal, so getting gear to resist them is also not really useful.
Then there's enemy variety or lack thereof. It's very much a could have been great game.

        >It really is flawed. There's an intricate system of debuffs and skills underneath the hood but none of them are useful. Why bother with debuffs and fancy moves when you can just light attack everything to death.
Torpor is a fantastic debuff, so much so that it trivializes most fights, and certain skills are useful for staggering enemies especially on hard mode. But I do agree that the system is rather lacking and could do more to make debuffs and skills more meaningful

It's simple. attack vs defense. If you're attack is lower than their defense you'll do nothing. If it's a little above you'll deal "enough" damage. If it's a lot higher you'll delete enemies. If you're having trouble in BBI you're probably undergeared. If you haven't done Everfall do that.

Some people have already said this but it needs to be said again. Dragons dogma plays like a single player mmo. But worse than dragon age inquisition even. The amount of trash mob type enemies you will encounter on the road is way too much. Not only is traversing the map on foot slow but the numerous trash mobs makes travel a huge chore. And it being an open world game, travel is a big gameplay mechanic you will find yourself using a lot. And the quests in the game are not very deep. The game is an action game. There are no rpg mechanics. No dialogue options. Not many different ways to sovoe quests. And the npcs have as much depth as in Skyrim. What exactly about this game is good? The plot? The plot of the game is very much barebones until the very end of the game.

just kill daimon? kek, it’s literally the simplest mechanic even a child could understand. want the best possible gear? defeat the hardest possible boss. I see this concept was too advanced for you

I hated dragons dogma at first

    Try this:
    Roll a new character
As soon as the tutorial where you're eventually gonna fight the chimera starts, pick up your pawn and throw him off a cliff. Don't summon the other tutorial pawns when you see the pawn stone, just get to the end of the tutorial alone
Solo the chimera using all the sword and shield skills, enemy climbing, and the shield perfect block.

That is what dragons dogma is supposed to feel like. If you are fighting something and it is less interesting than that chimera fight, you have overlevelled. The rpg design of DD is atrocious unfortunately and it's way too easy to ruin the game or make yourself bored doing stupid rpg shit. You can equip a shittier weapon or strip armor to try to keep it fun

Most boring garbage I ever played, literally nothing about it is good. And as this thread proves, its fans can't point out anything good about it either, lol.

Yeah its fun. Its one of my favorite games in terms of world building, story and aesthetic choices. The gameplay is also spectacular and is one of the best games for boss/mob fights when playing an action oriented class like the reds or yellow vocations, or their hybrid classes. I am not a fan of caster gameplay, but the game does have some amazing spells like the ability to summon tornados, giant ice pillars or have meteors fall from the sky and hit your targets.
Its not really comparable to most RPGs, and the closest thing that comes to mind is shadow of the colossus. It feels like a PS2 game that made its way to the 360/PS3 in terms of design choices. The story is short, but its intriguing. I have never seen gnostic themes in a video game before. The music is some of the best I have ever heard and something I listen to when relaxing on my porch drinking ale.

I give it a 9/10. Its one of the only games I have gotten all the achievements for on steam. If you want something like Skyrim, this game is not it.

Why do you insist on posting here? Just take all of your discussion of this shitty action game to the proper place.
    Fricking bizarre.

Last Rpg I played is Titan Quest Immortal Throne, so this is a great experience.
