For the amount of inventory management you have to do, those menus sure are slow. Even slower than in 1 I feel.

I mean, you are not wrong. There are only like, what, 10 survival horror games that are actually enjoyable to play?
I wanted to play it for years, and when I finally did, I found that it was just ok. A 6/10 kind of game, not bad, above average even, but it's just not that strong compared to the other games.
The co-op AI partner thing was not thought out well enough and it feels like they really had to bend over backwards to come up with ideas for how to make puzzles around it. It's like they had worked out a solid concept for the beginning of a game (and the train part really is great), but like they are struggling with trying to come up with what to do after that.
This is reflected with Resident Evil 4, where there were a whole bunch of different attempts at trying to make a game, with development starting over many times. The devs felt like they were rethreading the same ground and were getting sick of what they were doing, they hated it, which is why they wanted to try going in a new direction.
One direction ended up being too far removed from Resident Evil, and they opted to shift away from that, but they thought that game was pretty promising so it was eventually retooled into its own thing, creating Devil May Cry.
RE0 and also Code Veronica were basically the devs at their wits end with the classic Resident Evil formula, and its telling with how those two games are frequently regarded as below par for the series by many fans. No doubt the people at Capcom felt the same way.

RE0 was truly a beautiful game, but the gameplay was shit with the lack of item boxes and dual partner system. Some if the enemies and bosses were cool tho
From what I remember, the bosses were just large animals. I remember a scorpion, a centipede and a bat. The bat was very annoying too. The proto tyrant idea was a good addition to the game.
Mikami's dislike of Rebecca is on full display to the game's detriment. Also, the idea that you should just keep dropping your shit in that one train car because the two characters will keep passing through that area instead of oh I don't know, SHARED ITEM BOXES, was beyond moronic.
The baffling thing is that they tested the item dropping system back during the development of the first game. It sucked and they came up with the item boxes instead. Did the people who made 0 just completely forget about that?

I liked Zero. Played it on normal back in the day but I hear hard mode is infuriating to most. I can only recall once leaving Rebecca unattended while running around as Billy and her getting attacked. I also liked the final boss. Kinda weird Rebecca never says shit to anyone about it but that's a retcon for you.
