Copywrite originally would only last for 30 years so the creator could make a good profit then it would go public domain. Of course, once israelites took over the USA they changed the law so they could renew their copywrites indefinitely. It was a good idea on paper, but it's too easily abused.

people thought CDs going away would be a good thing because you could store data for longer. then data started getting arbitrarily evaporated like it was made of actual paper left in the sun

how do music labels still have so much sway? music piracy is like the most common type, and i can't imagine the cut from all the streaming nonsense can satisfy those fricks
          is it literally just sony?

the labels own the music, they started campaigning hard in all of the right places and didnt disclose such campaigns to the public until one day they enacted order66 on playing music outside of their releases and platforms and everyone who has ever opened a YT video found out because Youtubers and streamers told everyone why they cant play music anymore. industry lawyers have been rotating sawblades on legs for decades, there was no way to oppose them

This just reminds me of spain's israeliteery. SGAE, the organization relevant for copyright "protection" (also known as the founders of the SOPA law) would fine street performers on the spot for infringing copyright, tunas (walking "bands" made on the spot usually by young people or drunkards, sometimes both, that roam the streets singing stuff with whatever they can get their hands on during big holidays or events such as weddings) would get stopped on the spot as a representative would take their documentation and fine them. Many times the little shit would get his teeth kicked in or his prey runs and scatters, so they started wearing bodycams and cover both cases.
And the funniest one, they can also send an agent uninvited to anyone's wedding, in case the DJ or the playlist is playing anything that they didnt pay copyrights for, in which case the event holder (not the newlyweds) or the DJ has to stop the music, step aside, and show a receipt or any justification for any and all music on his drives or playlists. There's also a known scam, where if the bride is known to be pregnant, the attendants may or may not give the newlyweds a closed envelope with a bit of money, and the guy would confiscate the envelopes (usually left on the newlyweds or their parents table) under the pretense of illicit, untaxed earnings and pocket them, since the couple cant rightfully reclaim any amount of money at all even if they sue
So yeah copyright more like israeliterights

    >Internet Archive is also embroiled in a legal battle with a group of US publishers led by Hachette Book Group over the National Emergency Library. The organization lent out digitally scanned copies of books through the program during the height of the pandemic, which the publishers described as "willful mass copyright infringement." A federal judge ruled against Internet Archive for that particular case, though the organization is planning to appeal that decision.

Is Internet Archive going to be ok bros?

It's probably going to slowly be killed over the next 10-20 years. The future is subscription services and companies don't want you downloading old shit that they can sell you access to for 19.99 a month plus tip.

there are people now that can code entire APIs half awake and even some that are smart enough to not turn it into an app and draw attention to themselves. the entirety of mobile Reddit just took a nuke in the form of Reddit hiking the price on API access meaning all of the alternative launchers and apps had to shutdown.

theres very little chance a music company has the presence of mind to create software that cant be ripped to pieces by some midlevel Finnish coder and have old shit easily accessible with a jank P2P program on github because "PERKELE HELVETTI, FRICK THUH MUSIK INDOSTREE"

Copyrights at it's current form only exists to make israelites richer.
If copyrights are banished, it'll be a massive boon to humanity due to the amount of information being shared with everyone. The speed of improvements would increase as well.

        >Hell League Finals - Ghost In The Shell happens and you dont even own your body anymore
I think they own their own bodies, just that there are mass-produced prosthetics and bodies that they can use instead. Everyone is born with a real body, but they can choose to transfer their ghost over to a robotic body if they want (or get as many cyberizations at they please).

slavery, India and China have already proven it takes zero technology to claim ownership and enact laws upon human beings from birth. The idea that simply by being born you can be placed under certain legal ramifications isnt far fetched for future tech related ideas.

why are nazis and schizos so afraid of umhh, what is this time... ahh, "copyright"... yeah(?)

why are you so moronic you cant see the obvious annoyance of not being able to listen to more than 4 songs for the rest of your life without piracy or subscriptions

          >Ghost In The Shell happens and you dont even own your body anymore
You mean you don't own your soul anymore? Your body is still a physical object, don't see how copyright applies to it.

pic related. coupled with AI- it is not wild to see that an actor is soon to just be a meat puppet after death potentially even physically. voice, appearance, mannerisms- able to be sued for unfair use or copyright breach if something looks or sounds too much like an entire actor under copyright even if they died 30 years ago from the point

I think the problem is they sold their likeness when signing-up for the role. There is probably a contract that lets them use their likeness for whatever means they want. That is why there is a Bella Lugosi foundation that makes sure no one can use his image, and also why companies have to be careful when designing vampires (or else they'll be sued to infinity).
I'm a nobody, but I'm certaintly going to put in my will that no one is allowed to commercialize or profit from using my image, likeness, etc. because I'm sure some company will be using a lot dead people's identities in the future for whatever reason.

easily exploitated workforce are actors. all it takes is the Didneyism or Nickleodeonism to offer more money for more rights and a few caregivers or chaperones agreeing to such to create a precedence for owning more of a person than is reasonable and all of a sudden agents start saying "well we have 60 other actors and actresses who are more than happy to appear in a movie 200 years from now, think about it, famous forever!" and then the whole thing is fricked and Son Of John Wick vs Aliens: The Game on PSXX has its entire cast modeled, AI'd and facescanned ready to procedurally generate entire plots for you

The copyright cartel wants to eliminate the last remnant of public domain and freedom.

This is why I say AI is the future. Just clone all of their IPs, with AI randomization their little trademarks and IPs hold little to no weight or power anymore. Frick 'em, destroy this industry before they destroy gaming. Gaming is not served by this shitty industry weighing it down
