Does this game ever get fun? I never played a Digimon game or watched the anime before so I decided to start with this. I'm up to chapter 5 and it just feels like a boring version of SMT/Persona with some cool cyberpunk aesthetics.

Cyber Sleuth is popular because it uses a tired but safe JRPG formula and has good graphics. Lowest common denominator game.
If you're still interested in digimon after playing that slop, look at Digimon World 1 and 2.
>and has good graphics.
I wouldn't go that far.
>Digimon World 2
Actual garbage.
Those ps1 games are shit. if op isn't having fun with CS they're definitely not going to enjoy that dated shit.
No, it's a fair suggestion. DW1 is a completely different kind of game so if OP isn't liking Cyber Sleuth it makes sense for him to check out DW1 instead.
There's no difficulty unless you play on hard and even then it's braindead outside of some boss fights which are actually really hard even on normal.
>Cyber Sleuth
>good plot
Are you serious?
it's good by the industry standards
>Digmon World 2 better than Hacker's Memory
Stupid demented boomer.
change good graphics with good plot and you are right, it's literally the Persona 2 remake with better gameplay (and that's saying something) that will never happen
I can't say what's "fun" for you but having finished CS months ago I can say is that if you don't want a VN with occasional SMT-lite combat then you're not gonna have a good time.
Personally I frickin hate CS, but I did enjoy the actual teambuilding.
I also second Digimon World 1. It's more of a virtual pet sim with a heavy focus on exploration. It does have some very obscure mechanics that you might need to dig around 2000s forums to get a grasp on. Good pick if you enjoy getting autistically into something
>and 2.
You meant 3 right?
Right Anon?
3 or 2003, but not 2, yes?
Anon?
It's a mobile game ported to console. That's why it's sort of shit. Wait for the next Story game.
fair
If you are not a digimon fan then you should not bother
I disagree. I got it on a whim and I was positively surprised by the difficulty and the fun teambuilding. My main complaint is that it takes too long to get going.
>difficulty
Pretty much non-existent, unless you consider grindy digievolution lines to be 'difficulty'. Otherwise just spam piercing attacks and buffs
>Does this game ever get fun?
Dunno, never got it to work and the devs didnt help either.
No, only people with zero stanards like it.
>I never played a Digimon game or watched the anime before
There's your problem, one of the good things about CS is seeing good models and animations for mons you like, if you have no attachment to the IP it'll just be a generic JRPG to you.
I'm not a digimon fan and it was great
And it's a better SMT game than SMTV
Some of the late game boss fights are gonna get really complex but otherwise you’re in for more of the same.
If you don’t enjoy the team building aspect much I don’t recommend looking to much into it anymore
If you're not having fun with this one, try Digimon Survive which releases next week.
This game is all about the monster training and customization autism.
If endlessly fiddling with your dudes is boring to you, then the game is probably going to disappoint.
Mostly, this game gets by by being an inoffensive and vanilla monster training rpg, in an era where Pokemon endlessly shits itself and demands fans it its diarrhea, SMT doesn't release all the spinoffs that are actually good, and game development is so costly weird ideas aren't done anymore.
It doesn't exactly live up to the legacy, but it's good enough for scratching that itch. If anything, I'm sad that ours is the timeline where a game as mediocre as Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are standout entries in the genre.
>SMT/Persona
here is your (You)
People need to understand that Cyber Sleuth was good for a DIGIMON game. That's why when it initially came out people were singing its praises. Digimon has had a very mixed history with video games, there are some good ones but even those were incredibly grindy and tedious, a lot of which was removed in Cyber Sleuth unless you really wanted to grind for the OP Digimon.
It was only when it came out in English that people who weren't as familiar with Digimon or it's games then took that and turned it into "It's the best game ever, it's gonna kill Pokemon! THIS is what Pokemon should be!" That Cyber Sleuth ended up getting a bad reputation for not living up to those standards. It's a real shame, it's not a bad game. Definitely not a game for everyone and definitely not as good as Hackers Memory, but still a pretty good *Digimon* game. To be honest I don't understand why you'd play this if you aren't already into Digimon in the first place, given the wealth of better monster collectors out there.
I played it because masafumi takada did the soundtrack.
Most of the appeal is filling out the dex
>Does this game ever get fun?
Do you like Digimon?
Collecting and evolving them is basically the only appealing thing in CS because the battle system is either shamelessly easy or painfully hard in the bonus/optional battles so there is no charm to it at all save for maybe some of the animations.
