if the game is about first-person shooting combat it's sure as frick not mahjong. I love Metroid Prime but that's because of the exploration, I will be the first person to admit that the gunplay is NOT fun. You can't just say the game isn't an FPS because the shooting sucks; that's just bad design
The game's entire fun comes from exploration, why would you name it by its camera perspective? It's utter nonsense to call it that. Thief and Deus Ex aren't FPS either, people give their genre a proper name. I'm really not sure why anyone but someone with lasting sour grapes on a dead argument would call Prime an FPS.

It's a first person shooter no matter what anon pissed you off a decade ago. Christ those two games you listed have first person shooting in them but metroid is literally built with it entirely in mind.

How good is 2? I played the first game close to a decade ago, thought it was pretty good but I very seldomly get in the mode for games like that so I haven't yet tried the sequel.

Yes the controls are shit at the beginning, everyone agrees on that, but once you get used to it then they just work, the game was a lot of fun after the rought start, I don't remember how long it took me to get used to it but I do remember the world felt huge and i was addicted to it
