I never believed those memes until my college game building had a Smash tournament that was 4 players with all items and random stages and the incels threw a fricking fit and started mass emailing and calling the manager and even the school president. The day of the tournament was a shitshow. There was a huge showing and people showing up in drag, furries, morbidly obese tryhard nerds. Two of the fat fricks and a troony even got into a fight. It got so autistic that the school president had to write a letter telling them to ban the game and all future competitions.

It's absolutely not and I'm tired of people using this ancient ass meme especially when Pokemon Stadium is by far the most notorious comp stage for Melee. The way casuals go on about competitive maps, you'd think everybody was playing Smash 64 where the only viable stage was fricking Dreamland because it was the only stage that wasn't massive and campy.

Kazuya and Minmin have much more going for them than Ganondorf, so giving the guy who already reflects attack in his own series a reflector makes perfect sense thematically and balance-wise.

If you have to keep a limit on uses at least let them recharge over time (1 per 20 seconds or something). Five uses per stock is utterly absurd.
5 per stock forces you to use it wisely but not getting an extra 5 or even a refresh on kill (I mean when you kill someone else) is a kick in the dick

There's no way they'll top Ultimate in the next game which is why I'm hoping they'll make a completely different type game next time so it won't just be another rehash of Smash, something like a 3D brawler or arena fighter. You can't top Ultimate in terms of cast but that's because Ultimate took decades of a franchise building up to it and the perfect set of circumstances that allowed things like the wealth of 3p fighters to happen. Add to it that Sakurai has pretty much been killing himself over Smash for the past few years and I think he really wanted to make Ultimate his swan song and his truly last game in the series. It will continue for sure and I'd bet money on his involvement but I don't see him taking on anything beyond an advisory role in the next title as a way to help pass the torch. Ultimate was the end of the Sakurai era of Smash and the next game will be the beginning of a new era. Because it can't just go bigger and better than Ultimate's roster, it HAS to be different. I highly doubt we'd see something as drastic as going full 3D but I do see it making the same type of move literally all other fighting games make when they have had so many sequels and have to start chopping cast members out. Brand new engine (not just an update from a previous game like Ultimate was), brand new significant mechanics, totally changed movesets across characters to the point where they maintain their role but function wildly different from before, and all new characters that have never been in the game before. If you can't go bigger and better, you need to be different, otherwise you have no hook to justify the game existing over those bigger previous entries. I'd wager that the next Smash game will start over virtually from scratch, have a roster somewhere between Brawl and Smash 4, completely change the movesets of returning characters like Mario, Link, DK, etc to not only reflect their more recent titles but to fully embrace and build round them, and we'll see some wild shift to one or more core mechanics of the game or even a brand new one and it's going to be something that the competitive scene cannot turn off or ignore.

Not necessarily. If you look at the returning cast over the course of the series, most of them were iterated upon but never truly overhauled. Mario, Link, and Samus I could absolutely see getting total overhauls because they still have games that are barely reflected in their Smash. Mario still has no Cappy aside from a taunt, he has a roll now, and he has a new game coming that we don't know what new shit he'll have there. Link's bombs may have changed and he has the BotW look but otherwise, he's still not too different from how he always has been. Samus has a brand new suit and new moves from Samus Returns and Dread. There's justification of it and like I said, brand new movesets are just one of the ways they can draw people back since they know they can't just depend on increasing the roster.

Palutena's Guidance is relatively light on work. You don't have to create new assets, you just have to program its functionality into the game (like maybe 2 days of work at most) and then have someone write up the scripts for it. The most consequential part of it is the voice acting, but you could get a random programmer and writer on the job and crank out the mechanic in a week.
So many people don't seem to understand that game developers are assigned to different teams. You don't have the guys doing the programming also work on the music. You don't have the guys doing the game balance also doing the 3d modeling. These are all separate teams, and the largest team in any game is always the art department.

You can make cute Pokemon work. There are plenty of ways to use weaker Pokemon and still win. It's very rare that a Pokemon is entirely without merit, and that's usually for designated shitmons like Butterfree or Delibird. Even a lot of early game Pokemon are usable competitively, like my homies Pelipper and Crobat.

The original plan was to have him supervise a bit and just give general advice. Then whoever was going to be Director couldn't handle it so Sakurai had to step up. The biggest problem is no noobie director has the clout and business knowledge that Sakurai has, and having to deal with so many IPs and deals is a stressful ordeal in itself.
In his dev videos it seems like he was working himself way too hard but according giving away the control he used to have made development faster, easier and just everything better on him.
Idk why he's so against just being the guy that stands back and guides everyone instead of doing everything himself still.
