      >remove depth
if you arent using a guide you wont know without experimenting. This is some kind of zoomer internet guide assumed take.

It just makes the fight shorter most of the the time.

You make your own challenge. You could cheese the bosses by figuring out the order yourself, or you could Buster-Only, or even fight bosses with inopportune weapons just to frick around. There's nothing telling you what does what in-game, so like says it's all on you, and that itself is its own depth.
The series ends up adding a lot of different upgrades that have tons of quality-of-life, too, and you can totally ignore nearly ALL of them for extra challenge, as no game locks an ending behind 100% besides ZX Advent locking away a bonus ending scene with its hardest difficulty and X8 stopping you a final boss short on Easy. So really, this franchise is filled with difficulty modifiers.

Electric Underground and Tacticalfiend are our guys, so if they say it removes depth from the game then I'm siding with them.

Laziest game design imaginable. If someone sprays your bedroom with an uzi, you can "make your own challenge" by dodging in hard mode or accepting death in easy mode. Kill your actual self.

It's fighting the bosses on baby mode for sure. In some of the games you basically skip bosses by how quickly and easily the bosses die to their weakness. And it's not like cycling through each weapon until you find the one that does a quarter of his HP is riveting gameplay.
Fighting with the buster you actually have to learn how to dodge the bosses while still finding opportunities to attack safely instead of just spamming their weakness until they die.

This is some souls-like mentality. Using anything besides a shortsword with no upgrades is removing depth, sacrificing fun for clout.

I think a lot of people misunderstand what DEPTH even means. Having options is literally MORE DEPTH. Difficulty has never now nor ever translated 1:1 to Depth. Having 8 weapon optiond of varying effectiveness of multiple bosses is DEEPER than A buster with a singular effectiveness against bosses. OP reads like some ChatGPT shit

        Complexity isn't depth moron.

okay moron lets look at things this way. You have a buster and a jump, there is nothing BENEATH that, there is nothing deeper than that, there is no additional mechanical depth. Again difficulty does not 1:1 mean depth, depth simply means distance beneath the surface, if what you see is what you get, you could very easily argue that megaman without powerups is a very barebones standard experience with little depth

Not quite. Some boss weapons will completely break boss fights in Mega Man X. Spark Mandrill is the best example. Buster only is a fairly challenging fight, but using shotgun ice stun locks him.

The only x buster only fight that's a slog is Armored Armadillo because you can only hit him with normal shots.

OP is yet again a phone poster moronic twitter Black person

The idea is that you go blind (as you should with any game) and when you either put test your luck by figuring what weapon exactly is a boss weakness once you get to the fight, and probably losing health bar and even lives during the process, but if you figure it out at first try you get rewarded with more damage and not dying on the first try if you are good enough. Or you can go buster route if you don't feel like taking risks and you still end up getting a decent challenge
But of course that the "depth" goes away if I just fricking open a FAQ on the background that tells me how to do shit which is basically just playing on easy mode, and this applies to any game

Shooting the boss once with each weapon you've unlocked to have a chance of finding the one that trivializes it isn't depth of gameplay.

Not in X, but definitely MM7 because that game the boss weakness just freezes them and forces them to reset. Completely ruins the boss fights, but without the weaknesses the bosses are a nightmare.

Slicing off Flame Mammoth's trunk and Launch Octopus' arms with boomerangs is a cool weapon interaction but it's usually just
    >hit boss with weakness
    >dodge the one attack he always uses after his pattern is reset
    >repeat until dead

Now that I think about it Inti Creates really stuck to that idea for some reason, all the Gunvolt games punish you for using anything other than your standard attacks.

I just think it's generally more fun to fight them without weaknesses.
Usually when I replay a Mega Man game I like to buster-only the first fights with Robot Masters or Mavericks, and then use weaknesses on the re-fights at the end. Adds a weird sense of progression to the games.

There's no correct way to play these games, everyone has it's own pace and way to dealing with obstacles. It's like if you removed the ability to walk because dashing in the correct way to move in these games, it's not always about being optimal or cheating.

MM's weapon sandbox always felt tacked-on and pointless since the buster does everything good enough. Weapon switching clunkiness doesn't help. The series needed more incentive to bother outside of Pokemon type chart boss gimmicks.

ZX "rewards" for not hitting the bosses weak points. And it's absolutely moronic how it's implemented since some weak points are so easy to hit that you're just dragging the fight waiting for opportunities to attack.

I love megaman but those endgame bosses have always been such a moronic difficulty spike as early as the first fricking game. It really plays like some arcade shit where youre guaranteed X minutes of a good easy time before LMAO FIGHT EVERY BOSS BACK TO BACK IN ONE LIFE AND THEN FIGHT A DRAGON AND 2 PHASES OF DR WILY.
    >hurrdurr git gud
Ive beaten all of the original and X games now buster only but even still the endgame is lopsided in difficulty

You know the weakness at that point or at least figure it out quick. You have plenty of ammo to do so, and you’re given health between rounds.

What the frick are you talking about?

The same people making the argument only used the pistol in halo CE and didn’t use any other weapon because they put winning over fun.

I could still stomp them with a plasma rifle in chill out.

PS: the pistol was supposed to be a 5 shot weapon, you can see this by shooting a teammate in coop, it just had a coding error in multiplayer that made it 3 shot.

  26. 3 months ago

That's a backwards way of looking at it. In your first playthroughs, you'll likely fight bosses with only the buster. Beating them with their weakness is the reward for learning/mastering the game.

    >started with Bright Man in Mega Man 4 and then picking Pharaoh Man next
    >mfw it actually froze him
I thought every boss was gonna get affected by it but it was a lucky blind pick. It's a dopamine rush when you have the boss's weakness and I think that's all that matters.

No, it's an option. optimizing the boss order rewards game knowledge and helps players that are underperforming.
Organic difficulty modes that are given to the player

      >Organic difficulty modes

This. It's like how in Wily Stages there's always some kind of complicated platforming segment but you always have Rush Jet to skip it if you want. The game lets the player have the difficulty he wants.
