Twitter is fricking terrible. There's been so many times I've looked at a page for what was claimed to be their latest post, seen nothing, only for someone to directly link to it and prove it exists. It's gotten to the point that I don't even bother trying to find things on twitter anymore and just use the link from news sites to find it. For example, I can't find it anywhere in

Twitter hasn't been useable since before Musk. First they disabled searching (was later re-enabled), then they disabled browsing media, then they disabled NSFW, then Musk, and now there's no replies or full posts. The website is just genuine shit, and nitter doesn't make twitter okay.

      Basically.
Something not talked about is the .20 cent thing can actually be waved, but only if you use ironsource on your games.
Ironsource is the isreal owned malware company they got some flack last year for buying.
So basically this was all a trick to try and force devs to use their malware, they just kinda forgot paid desktop games exists I guess.

yup, and they basically also killed the entire indie development with it because games that do not show ads cannot be exempt from the install fee, meaning this was planned solely to outisraelite the free to play mobile game developers

    This is so fricking moronic.

Godot is a company. Not an association or non-profit, they are here to make money. When a company needs money, the people giving it usually have some form of leverage or agreement.
When you do a cash injection, it is normal to get a stake in the company back. This is a good thing: the company that put in money can now check and subjugate the company they gave money, to see if they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.

But no, let's skip the very necessary bureaucracy to just give them the money, which they can then use for tax writeoffs, laundering, and fricking with EBIT metrics.

      Anonymous

Godot has been FLOSS since 2014. They cannot leverage it to make money, and if it has somehow been cucked by external forces, the codebase can be forked and continued without it by anyone due to its release under MIT license. You have no idea what you're talking about.

It's impossible for any human being, even if they have several friends over every day, to consume this huge amount of candy in a viable amount of time before 90% of it needs to be thrown in the trash.

And here's the thing, he could've easily retained a cushy position within Mojang, essentially doing what he does now (nothing) while also having a direct connection to his greatest achievement in life, but he just had to sperg out for seemingly no reason and go off to just sit in his mansion and mope all day.

It's not even that, he genuinely fricked up by deciding to cash out and abandon the only thing he'll be remembered for. He could have taken on a Gabe Newell role in the company, the "Father of Minecraft" who doesn't really do anything in the company anymore but sticks around because it's his baby. None of the companies who offered to buy Mojang even made it a condition that he would leave, that was his own choice.

I genuinely do wonder if he's ever considered that his only legacy on this earth is Minecraft, and he fricked up tremendously by trying to distance himself from it to the point where Microsoft can just memory hole him from the game that he created. He will die and his obituary will inevitably mention Minecraft, and I think that probably scares him.

Because people want to get behind godot due to it being the biggest MIT open source engine, meaning anyone can use it with no strings attached.

Also Unreal Engine is specically made for AAA games and thats whats its good for. Stuff like 2D or low budget games is an afterthought. Making an Indie game in Unreal is like taking a sports car on a country road. You use the right tool for the job.

      2) For indies its overkill and the performance is much worse. That furry mario 64 game (pseudoregalia) needs a fricking 1660 to hit 60fps, which is just stupid.
I will say its shaders are at least in HLSL, same as unitys. So that part would be easy to move over.

Then there are the other morons who who learned to sucked Unity dick too much and can't make the change.

Unreal is harder, less flexible, and often unnecessary for what most indie devs are trying to accomplish. Like if you're trying to make an indie platformer you're better off using Unity, Godot or something smaller than Unreal.

One angle that people ITT haven't mentioned is the economic model:
With Unity you pay once and then you're done, in Unreal you pay a percentage fee FOREVER.

Some people picked Unity in part because they don't want to keep paying Unreal a percentage 10 years after they have released the game. Even if it's maybe fair it is a hassle to keep doing it forever.

At least that's how it used to be...

      No, people like good developers.
Also the fee doesn't apply to just developers, they are going to offset that cost to players.
So at the end of the day GAMERs are eating that fee.

Developers don't HAVE TO pass the fee onto you. It's the dev's choice if they do it. Not unitys.

Well no, nobody has to push the fee on to their customers, but thats how the world works.
Keep in mind unity dissolved their TOS protections when they did this, so they will absolutely tack on more fees in the future.
Theyre also claiming they can accurately track all installs but won't say how, which implies new unity games will be shipped with some type of spyware.

the fact is, that we're talking about businesses here, the dudes owning them want them to survive, so there's often not a lot of leeway for being a "good dude" when their company's existence is on the line. unity has lost money every year for years, that's why they tried their little scheme to get more money for the company and stop the hemorrhaging of money that is happening at the company now. And godot will do the same if they have to, they won't have a choice in the matter, really, because if they get to a point where they will be losing money every single year like unity does, they will either have to raise prices or shut the company down, it's really just that simple. the morons and idiots on here will call me a naysayer and shill but this is the truth.
