Maybe it was for aesthetic reasons? I always think about Mortal Kombat when this happens.
Looking closely the III looks like jailbars? who knows really
The dragon emblem inside the 3 is aesthetic
I started writing my number 3s like on the MK3 cover ever since I played the game. A cute girl in class told me "Nice number 3" when I drew it on the chalkboard.
>cute girl in class told me "Nice number 3" when I drew it on the chalkboard.
Well, did you make any move?
She was very tsundere, so I made no moves, but still remember that comment almost 30 years later.
I did do MK3 moves with classmates. I tried doing the Sonya leg grab and toppled over. Never again after.
Did you show her your Mortal Kombat moves? Or even better, the sounds.
Did she do jack off motion in the air afterwords?
While the country games involve rescuing donkey kong, DKL III is actually a race between Dixie & Kiddy and Donkey & Diddy to find a secret world at the end of the game. So the jail bars don't actually mean anything.
i think of wario land personally. but it's only II in america there. also wario's eyeball is on the japanese title screen in his O but they removed for the international version.
MK3, especially on Playstation, is the sickest video game cover of all time. I never followed the Playstation 1 or really cared about it, especially later on, but I remember seeing the longbox for this at a rental place and being extremely jealous, even though the same damn game was also on SNES. The SNES cover did not look this cool and didn't make me want to play it.
That looks pretty awful though, that's why I used
instead. NTSC-U takes another L.
Nah, you're nuts. And it looks even better in an actual israeliteel case with the reflective sheen.
Nobody played these.
I did you lying liberal
i had the 3rd one on gameboy pocket (non colored version). i remember it being surprisingly fun on gameboy but i already had the game on snes and had beaten it so i didn't play it much on gameboy.
found a video of someone playing it on gameboy pocket lol
Damn that looks incredibly ok. Still dont know why i'd play it over SNES though
I did. I was just looking at my copy of Land 2 yesterday.
Genuine shovelware
You think that's bad? Look at the Japanese titles

are you talking about the games themselves because I've never even heard of these.
Think sonic on game gear, but actually good. I love sonic but how the frick do you get the gimped versions on game gear, but donkey Kong country Gameboy games are fricking legit and feel good, fast and smooth. And how the frick do the sonic gg games get shilled up and down my anus but the dkl gb games get, meh??
British wit. You wouldn't get it
Usually US releases don't have roman numerals because american kids can't read them, I guess they forgot for Donkey Kong Land III.
>Only Romans can read Romans numerals
Roman numerals are a common aesthetic choice all over the world, especially on clocks. You are clearly moronic. Delete this.
Cut him some slack, in some countries there's nothing better to do than think about Americans all the time.
This is true. Let us pitty people who are not fortunate enough to live in the United States of America.
dippy wank's fest, as the masses tend to call it, or dippy's wank fest as those more cultured would refer
These games are miserable to play on a monochrome gameboy screen, there's so much fricking detail in the levels that you can't tell anything apart without color.
>DKC was so popular in Japan they got an exclusive color version of Land 3

how were they "overlooked", they sold very well at the time and were put in product placement in TV shows
Read the thread, dumbass tripgay troony

I played DKL1 years before DKC, loved it to death, played it back and forth, and even I had no interest in the sequels.
But I think part of it is they were pretty much more of the same game. At least the Mario games had the decency of being different from one entry to the next, even the GB games. The SNES and GB sequels for DKC just cemented the series as second-tier by being too samey.
If it ain't broke, don't fix! If the first game was good, the two others are going to be just as good. We don't need some hipster homosexual wannabe auteur to come and spin every game in the series to be "unique".
If you think that's bad... the frickin name of the second SNES game got printed garbled as Diddy's Kong Quest (???). He "Diddy's Kong" now.
It's a pun. It's supposed to sound like "Diddy's Conquest", but he's on a quest to find Donkey Kong, so it's a Kong Quest.
Huh?
I can't believe Wario Land II is a new release. Does that mean it's not retro?
Remember in Banjo Tooie when they announced the next game would be Banjo Threeie?
Overlooked? homie, I had DK2 on my gameboy. It was a damned good port
Shut the frick up you illiterate Black person, the thread is about the inconsistent numbering in the titles
Because "3" looks too much like a sideways female ass pushed up in the air in a beckoning manner or female breasts. These are kids games.
