DKC 1 is awesome! Easily the best in the series, but I hear everyone likes 2 more? It's also good, but once you gett good at 1 the flow and speed is awesome. It's like if sonic was a good game.
General DK thread. Also whats your fav DK?

>DKC 1 is awesome! Easily the best in the series
Bad opinion. DKC has way too many insta-death gimmick levels to be better than 2
>DKC has way too many insta-death gimmick levels
Does it? I replayed it recently and while I died a bit (I suck) I didn't notice anything really unfair except not being able to see far enough ahead to anticipate things.
How did you miss all the barrel levels in the second half that have you instantly jetting yourself into a pit of death if you mess up? Shit got annoying fast if you don't cheat with save states
Why didn't they port this game to psx? I don't get it. I can't afford snes shit anymore. I'll never play this series now.
My favorite is DKC 3. I like the fact that we can play with a lightweight and a tank character + have more stuff to do(Krematoa, Bears Brothers, Mama Bird, etc).
But all the three games are great.
In 3 I really like the little side quest stuff and world map secrets. They're not that big of a thing, but I really enjoy them. I also like the summer camp vibe. 2 is still my favorite though.
>2 is still my favorite though.
>not better than 2
dixie's hover is cool, but the level designs in 2 feels slower... especially the vertical stages
>I like the fact that we can play with a lightweight and a tank character
I liked that too. I never knew what Diddy "did". Dixie used her hair but what could Diddy do? It wasn't the roll jump, was it? I feel like Dixie could to that too.
I think diddy could run faster.
Is that really an advantage unless you're speedrunning though?
Can't think of one level where you need to run fast.
> diddy advantage
front facing hit box when he’s holding shit and faster kart wheel. his edge roll jumps feel better than dixie too. i got no hard numbers or anything but I loved playing dixie as a kid. diddy just feels like he controls tighter for whatever reason to me now.
I like how the game has fun puzzles in a 2D platformer.
DK64 Candy Kong is so much better.
reminder that you will get the HIV from fricking this monke

I want to breed DK's guts so bad

But Kongs =/= Monkey though. The SCIENCE™ has been settled on the matter.
> Also whats your fav DK?
DKC1, because it's the only one I played, finished it last week. Hell of a quality platformer, really smooth and satisfying, also difficult as frick, especially with my moronic controls of choice. Don't wanna start the next game right now so I don't burn out from DK halfway, but hope it will be as good as the first one when I eventually check it out.
BTW, what do you people think of Land series? Is it worth playing? I read somewhere it just recycles levels from Country and adapts them for GB, but idk for sure. Also, is 64 any good? Is it related to Country games?
>so I don't burn out from DK
impossible! if you want to take it slow just try finding the secrets in dkc1. there's a few per level and most they hint at by pointing you in the right direction with a few bananas. pro tip: you can roll off cliffs then air jump.
> hope it will be as good as the first one
its decent... but you're basically gonna be always holding down the run button for longer jumps and junk.
> BTW, what do you people think of Land series?
I had the gameboy games as a kid and loved them... but they're gameboy games. They play surprisingly well though especially 2 and 3. I wouldn't replay them now, but they're definitely some of my favorite gameboy games.
The original Donkey Kong is better.
>The original Donkey Kong is better.
>I like the original the best.
agreed. it feels more like a skill based platformer. 2 feels like every second level I'm auto scrolling or threading a needle through bees.
can't argue with science™!
You're gonna love this
>Classic DK design
>Wearing the tie
It was a time of transition...
DKC2 kind of turns the game into a: 'gotta throw my buddy upwards offthescreen where I can't see shit because something might be hidden'-type of chore if I'm being honest. I like the original the best. Only the screen-estate could be better.
The PC fangames are terrible. Not much in level-design but moreso in how they control. Unfortunately.
You tards are so blinded by nostalgia.
Feel free to address my points or frick off.
I have in this very thread multiple times which you ignored.
Even if you had (you didn't), you didn't in that comment. So you should still frick off.
>gotta throw my buddy upwards offthescreen where I can't see shit because something might be hidden
This was in 3 too, but not bad. My favorite was chucking your buddy into an unseen bee and losing them.
>My favorite was chucking your buddy into an unseen bee and losing them.
Lol. Classic.
Yeah, it's in 3 as-well, and I could argue it's even worse in dk64. Just never something I much cared for. There's hidden shit in the original DKC off-screen as-well, but it's much more, say, organically. It's always been one of my pet-peeves when I replay these games. My ideal would be DKC1's level design in terms of collectibles, and DKC2's screen estate.
I prefer the first DKC. I've tried the other ones but my nostalgia for the first one is so strong anything else despite their respective qualities pales in comparison. It's kind of like how Super Metroid ruined all future metroid games for me. Sure, Metroid Fusion is a great game but I always have that nagging "eh...Super Metroid was better" feeling.
>trophy waifu
Bouncy Bonanza and Stop&Go are filtering me hard, but I don't want to skip the game.
stop and go is super fun. you gotta push those tires super fast. the shortcut is you go backwards at the start aha. bouncy bonanza just make sure you get winky the frog. he makes that level way easier.
> monke waifu best waifu
I'd share my banana hoard
>hand palms
My fricking sides.
Dkc 1 is great, DK land is great, DKC2 is one of yhe best platformers ever made in my opinion. And DKC3 is not quite on the level of its predecessors.
I like all 3 DKC games on SNES a lot, they're my favorite retro trilogy, and I liked Jungle Beat a lot when I played it on Wii
DKC 1 was annoying, but was harder because of Barrel cannons and cart tracks
DKC1 is great because my OCD doesn't have a near constant fear of missing out on DK Coins and Bonus Barrels and 100% didn't net you anything.
I love both 2 and 3 but I tend to come back to 1
I run through dkc 1 and 2 yearly, so good. Dkc3 has a lot of issues, it's a huge step down but still fun to play
>itt: people who love monke
DKC was the first game I got as a kid in the same year as its copyright notice. Weird I remember that, and I got it for christmas, so it didn't last long lol.
Great game, but plenty of insta kills. God tier music tracks in the underwater and ice levels.
I'll never again get that feeling of excitement watching a game on demo mode at a game store.
Feel old, but also good about that. Simpler times.
Loved the Wii and later games, almost as fun. But never played dkc2 or 3 for some reason.
The OST has no business being as good as it is in the trilogy.
>fav DK
Toss up between DKC1 and DK64. The former because well yeah, it's a great game, even if it's the GBC version I originally played. The latter I would say half because I genuinely enjoy it to this day and probably half because it was actually my introduction to Rare DK proper, barring Mario Kart and Smash Bros 64, I suppose. Honorable mention to Returns 1, I liked it, really appreciated the setting being used as level design it had going on.
If we're talking which DK, the character? I'm gonna say 64-DK, I didn't have a SNES so his redesign showing up in N64 spinoffs meant little to me. His cargo hold ability in Smash got me interested enough to get DK64, though, and that take left one hell of an impression on me. To this day, silly as it is, if I'm doing particularly well in a game, I sometimes do that damn "Yeaaahhh" thing.
Cringe. Just play the OG on SNES and see how wrong your opinion is.
Anon, to be honest, I don't think you even read my post. Also if it means anything, I did play the SNES version on a SNESmini. For the record, I hadn't actually listened to the original version's OST before, so it was a shock hearing how different the tunes were both in instrumentation quality and composition, like damn.
>smash dk was pretty bad ass
Isn't he? He's reliable as frick in Smash Run.
>gameboy games
So I got DK Land 1 about a year ago or so and I'm still whittling away at it. Cripes, I wasn't expecting it to be the way it is, like it just feels so unwieldly controlling the Kongs until you adjust. Music is fricking swell, though.
DK Land 2 and 3 play a lot better in terms of Monke controls... especially 3. Best part is probably the redone gameboy bosses. Lots are completely different. Pretty fun. Wish there was a boss rush mode.
Then I might go after those after this one at some point, thanks mates.
>So I got DK Land 1 about a year ago or so and I'm still whittling away at it.
Actually a great game. 2 & 3 more closely resemble their DKC counterparts, but they really shouldn't take that long to beat.
aha smash dk was pretty bad ass. I only had the gameboy games until I was a bit older. snes games were awesome.
Its pretty nice to have a thread where people like DKC1 best. I feel like for years you could never admit that because DKC2 was held in such high esteem. Besides feeling more memorable, I just like playing with Donkey Kong himself better.
I actually like DKC2 on the GBA
the extra content it has makes the game worth the price.
All 3 GBA DKCs are fine. Pacifica in DKC3 can suck my nuts though.
>It's like if sonic was a good game.
Fricking have a nice day DK troony
DKC is garbage and Sonic is better than any Nintendo game
COPE and SEETHE
> Sonic is better than any Nintendo game
hehe 🙂 got em
DKC is really good, I didn't like the returns series.
