The timing of the first Steam Deck sale was strategic, it happened right before the Rog Ally was announced. This time is probably no different. I think that we will get Steam Deck 2 announced in 1-2 months after the sale ends. Valve can no longer ignore the competition now that they use much stronger chipsets. I don't think that the first Steam Deck will get abandoned, but people who buy it now are gonna regret it in a few months either way, because Valve will break another price/performance barrier with 2.
CRIME Shirt $21.68 |
>2 more months
Valve literally said this year that a revision or follow up to the Steam Deck is years away.
This. Valve has said multiple times the second iteration of the deck is still years away. 3rd party handhelds are slightly more powerful but all of them have their own compromises they had to make.
You're taking a gamble if you buy any of these 1st gen PC handhelds since we still don't know what the long term support will be for them. It will probably be 2 or 3 generation in until the competition weeds itself out and we see which companies will be the best Steam Deck alternatives. Until then the deck is the safest bet.
>T-TWO MORE WEEKS
I'm still waiting for an Index 2.
the ally sucks tho
Don't worry, I'm sure Asus, a company with dozens if not hundreds of other products, is going to devote significant resources towards solving these software and firmware issues.
Ayaneo > deck > ally
Ah yes. Ayaneo. The company that promised a $299 device and then raised the price two times for everyone other than 200 or so autists who managed to snatch it in the first few minutes sales went live.
they raised the price three times more
I'm talking about the AYANEO AIR Plus with i3-1215U, not 1S
oh, okay
At 1400€ I can buy a laptop with better specs and a gamepad, I don't understand people that fall for this shit, just buy a fricking switch that's got better games.
Those shoulder buttons look horribly uncomfortable. The only good thing I can say about the AYANEO is that it's without a doubt the prettiest of the PC handhelds
Steamkek, and A-Sus sisters , we got too wienery
>aya neo coon
I hate chink shills so much bros
Never buy anything because they might release another anything
It was already on sale when it was the 1 year anniversary. This is the second time it was on sale. If anything, it's because the chip shortage has improved and hardware prices are falling.
A Macbook Air is better value for money
>I think that we will get Steam Deck 2 announced in 1-2 months
There's no chip they can put in Deck 2
there's the z1 extreme from the ally, but it's not enough of a jump from the current deck to bother.
Same chip add 2cores change the fan duble the battery make the middle thicker and you have the perfect device.
And a better screen would not hurt.
Are you moronic, it's barely been a full year since the Steam Deck launched, and even then it wasn't universally available until like last October.
I'm not buying a steam kek, and I'm certainly not buying a steamed kek 2.
You say that like the ally is any good.
Steam deck came out last year. They're not gonna make new one every year. That would be fricking moronic
This and this threads moronic, the amount of money they would lose from people put off on how quickly their tech could become obsolete and devs tired of making sure there games work with it
Hardware manufacturers in the PC space release new products generations every 1.5 years or so. That's how PCs stay competitive while multiple console games have already started falling back on 30 FPS (kek). And that's what a Steam Deck is, it's a PC, not a console, so it has to follow PC rules.
It's a handheld PC. You cannot easily upgrade them with newer parts like you would a regular PC.
>That's how PCs stay competitive while multiple console games have already started falling back on 30 FPS (kek)
That line of thinking is what led to shit like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
They're not working on a Steam Deck 2 they're working on the "Deckard", a standalone VR headset using similar hardware to the Steam Deck.
>not working on standalone headphones
fricking shame. Index headphones are amazimg
They lent their headphone design over to HP at least.
Not really sure what a standalone version of those headphones would look like though. A headstrap?
>A headstrap
Yeah, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm stuck using speakers because all headphones clamp down on my glasses and are uncomfortable as frick for more than an hour
initially i lol'd at this but it could be a nice alternative to regular headphones. Could also avoid the gamer dent on your head ... but perhaps youd get a new one around your head.
You won't there's no reason for it no advances in tech where made
but they literally said that steam deck 2 is years away and first they want to do revision of first one with better battery life
also
>use much stronger chipsets
>that shit the bed in 15W mode and melt SD cards and case using higher performance options
>and even then they are just 30-50% more powerful than valve van gogh chip
it just not happening RIGHT NOW because amd still made too little of a jump between their APU generations - next big jump is going to be Nvidia Ampere based APU with built in DLSS for Swtich 2 that got leaked
also even if valve would end support for Steam Deck like tommorow you can still install dekstop version of Windows 10/11 with Steam Deck Tools and use it as any other device
No trackpad no buy, simple as
Valve already said this already my homie. Years from now and just batter/screen.
>whole point of the steam deck was to inspire other companies to make their own portable gaming pc
>stemies get assblasted the moment another company makes one
kek
I wonder how well a steam deck would do as a full desktop replacement with the dock, it is just running arch btw.
>it is just running arch btw
It's modified enough for significant differences, like the image being read-only by default and anything installed outside of flatpak potentially being wiped by an update.
it all just depends on what software you need to run. There's plenty of great free software on the discover store. but if you need something like Autodesk or Adobe software, just make sure they offer linux versions first. If not, then find a linux alternative
The only real difficulty comes from trying to run native windows software. In which case you may need to try Wine, ProtonTricks, Bottles, or SteamTinkerlaunch. But if everything you need is available on linux, then you'll be fine
What idiot chooses to be an early adopter?
I'm waiting for an OLED model or micro LED
>OLED
enjoy getting your screen burnt with game huds and good luck trying to find a replacement screen
how the frick do you manage to burn in the lock screen into the switch? that shit stays up for 15s MAX.
thats not burn in moron, OLED burn in is also nowhere as big as a problem as it used to be.
That's not how burn-in works on OLEDs.
that's not even an OLED switch anon
Yeah no.
Someone did a test with the Switch OLED and it took 6 months/3600 hours of always-on screen use for burn-in to occur.
Hwo cares, steam deck verified by the way.
I have a PC that handles all my bleeding edge shit. The deck does what I want it to which is 6th gen emulation and Outrun 2 in my the comfort of my bed.
They should fix the software first before bothering with hardware upgrades. The current os version especially is really buggy. Not sure what they did in the latest update
deck sure fricking sucks shit
>I think that we will get Steam Deck 2 announced in 1-2 months after the sale ends.
FALSE. Valve and the creator of steam deck keep saying that Steam deck 2 is not ready for 4-5 years.
holy shit br*s
Are they adding a 30hz option so i don‘t have to use the dogshit frame limiter?
in b4 valve found a way to emulate VRR
He isn't going by The Phawx anymore?
he's always gone by that on twitter, it was before he even made his youtube
