Darkness isn't portrayed as good in Deltarune. Sure it's portrayed as "fun" since it represents fiction, but it's very likely that the more we'll learn about Ralsei the worse Dark worlds will turn out to be. Not to mention Gaster's connection to it.

I played two hours of it a couple months back and thought it was fine. It was funny and charming at times, but it clearly didn't keep my attention since I haven't played it since the start of May. Whenever I start up a playthrough of EarthBound or Mother 3 I at least always finish it.

My thought is that functionally everyone who played Undertale completed it, which is a feeling low-skill gamers (read: the entire gaming journalism community) don't feel very often. When you beat a game, you feel a certain affinity for it, a sense of accomplishment, maybe even arrogance, and immediately feel a sense of community with others who had the same experience with the game.
What percent of GOTY voters do you think actually finished Bloodborne? Actually explored it's side quests and storylines?
BB is the better game by a mile, but you vote based on your experience with the game, and everyone gets the same (warm, fuzzy) experience with UT and only maybe 5% of BB players extract everything they can (tooth and nail) from it.

Undertale's main appeal is to make you feel like a good person for not doing anything meaningful or worthwhile. You make a bunch of friends and get praised to high heaven for... not being a murderer. It's basically just another form of a power fantasy, "as long as I'm mediocre and not a malicious, evil person that means I must be a good person who deserves to be rewarded". Despite it being a game trying to be "more realistic" with how it treats the act of killing it ironically isn't very realistic at all

No, you don't. In order to "JUST" avoid killing monsters, you have to do things that are expressly friendly with Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Alphys, and Mettaton. Every other battle, you can at least run from, or can be solved by being ambivalent/neutral. The npcs don't treat you as particularly friendly until you get to the pacifist only stuff where you are expressly initiating social events on friendly terms.
Pacifism and murder are only a means to tell Undertale's actual moral message anyway. So you REALLY fricking missed the bar here.

For Toriel, all you have to do is not murder her. She treats you like a child from day one and goes out of her way to be as friendly to you as physically possible
For Sans, you just have to hang out with him once and not murder him
For Papyrus, you just have to hang out with him once and not murder him. Papyrus is a special case because again, like Toriel, he deliberately goes out of his way to be as nice to you as physically possible to the point of even forgiving you if your murder him
For Alphys, you just have to be patient and not murder her, then hang out with her. To be fair, there probably were a decent amount of players who wanted to kill her but even still as long as you aren't actively being evil it isn't hard to be friends with her
Mettaton was a baffling case because he actually is a murderrobot and you would be 100% justified to kill him yet the game kinda handwaves this and makes you friends regardless as long as, once again, you don't murder him
Being "good" in Undertale is not difficult it all, it just requires you to not actively be a malicious person. You don't sacrifice anything in Undertale, you aren't forced to make difficult decisions like someone in real life would have to make. As long as you aren't actively murdering people the monsters will go out of their way to be as nice to you as physically possible.

Actually, you don't. The game specifically changes the terminology of the date to not a date if you don't flirt with him.
It has fun characters, a quick wit, unique battle mechanics, interesting locations and good music.
Plus Toby was obviously holding back most of his worst tumblr instincts when he made it because he was scared people would hate him. He's not holding back anymore with Deltarune and it's a lot worse for it. My friends and I are all 30+ and we all enjoyed Undertale but bounced off of Deltarune after chapter 1 because it was obviously made with a lot less universal appeal.
Deltarune plays infinitely better than Undertale and I hold that it's written better overall too, at least for what we've seen. Hell, I'd say not one moment is worse written than Undertale, if not for the completely irrelevant boombox gang occupying the entire first half of chapter 2 for some goddamn reason.

touhou (or at least EoSD, the only one i've played) is already based on discrete 'rounds'
it just calls them 'spell cards' instead of 'turns'
figuring out the way to deal with each round is fun and enjoyable, and splitting them with an rpg-style attack/defend/item (as opposed to some trivial filler bullets) is a good variation
sans has almost the exact same rhythm as flandre, including a final objective:survive round where you are denied access to agency (in the form of either bombs or healing items)
even the resource strategy is the same. you want to bomb/food (recovery from frickups/brute force for difficult patterns) as late as possible to gain maximum value out of the limited quantity you have
You can predict Ganker's actions so easily, it's almost like exploiting the crude AI of an NPC.

I actually find that most people who care about FNAF on Ganker these days like it, or at least appreciate it for what it is. Scott had zero expectations going into making it, he anticipated it going big for about fifteen minutes and then being forgotten, whereupon he would quit game dev. The fact that it happened to be a monumental hit and he proceeded to take it through a modern replication of a classic horror franchise's rise and fall gives the whole series an almost meta appeal.

As a musician, this kind of thing does happen. You start writing a song and eventually you realize you wrote another song. It happens a lot actually.
Music is like this though, everyone is stealing from everyone else, its just how it is.
I don't think this means Toby is bad for doing this. But it diminishes my assessment of his composing ability.
When you see a younger musician doing this kind heavily inspired lifting, I don't think they are "bad", I just think they are underdeveloped as a musician.
A lot of people take the list to intend to mean "Toby's a criminal!! he needs to be jailed for music crimes!!" when it was always just about showing that Toby's composing's ability isn't the holy fountain of original creativity that it's cracked up to be in the fandom. And that's fine, lots of famous vidya composers crib heavily from existing music (Kondo for starters), the vidya music is still good but that just means those artists themselves need to be looked at more realistically, as inspired glorified remixers instead of genius auteur composers cranking out unique masterpieces.
That first defensive stance is just some sort of weird projection from cultists who are insecure on Toby's behalf for some reason, a lot of my favorite vidya music is plagiarized and I don't jump to defend the composers as if my life depended on it, I'm glad they got away with it because it enriched the games they were in and I can't imagine something else in their place.
