This doesn't make any sense as the lands are literally being pulled closed together in DS3, Lothric and Anor Londo weren't actually built in close proximity of each other.. It's exacerbated in the DLC where parts of Drangleic end up on top of Lordran.

If this was your ONLY way to play Demon’s Souls, then it’s fine. Pretty good even. But if you can get the original game or emulate the original, the original is a worthwhile experience. It’s pretty short.
The remake’s soundtrack removes some instruments that are essential to the personality of the original score. But music aside, the sound effects are just garbage in the remake.

I wish they kept most of the timpanis, snare, trumpets, and chanting. I don’t really like what the remake did to the soundtrack of the Armored Spider Demon. It has some plucking of strings to do that cliche “creepy crawly” music, which I appreciate, but it downplays it later in the score. The drums are also very quiet but the original song had a tribal feel to it due the the pounding drums and the blaring trumpet made it felt like a beast.

Yeah it's fantastic. I played it through again as soon as I'd finished it. Just loads of fun and better than the PS3 as the jank has been ironed out. I loved it on PS3 but this PS5 remake, with most of the complaints I had about the game addressed, I can't really fault. It's a beautiful looking title and something every PS5 owner should enjoy.
I played the remake and no one should play it instead of the original or buy a ps5.
OK but the original did not run well on my PS3, I'd rather a good frame rate with nice graphics and better feeling gameplay than the fairly inconsistent frame rate and muddy presentation of the original. Neither of them are bad games by any measure but the remake is for me the superior title. If you like the original on original hardware then enjoy it all you want but the remake is what I prefer.

Remake is by far a better way to play the game. I'll admit it lacks some of the soul of the original, especially in the music and some of the art direction. Frankly, and I know this is gonna make me sound like a Sony shill, but the DualSense haptic/audio effects alone more than made up for it. That kind of direct gameplay feedback is a lot more meaningful to me than the graphics or music. Plus, are you really going to argue that inventory weight as implemented in the original was a good system? Or that the shit 4-direction roll was fine?

I remember hating dark souls 1 after being so hyped for it being a huge demons souls fan. It felt soulless to me at the time before the word “soulless” was a thing. I thought the enemies were less interesting and the environment, while interconnected felt more artificial and slapped together. It felt more sluggish to play as well. I came around to it eventually but it changed the focus of the game for better or worse.

Never played a souls game before but played this for 36 hours now, and need two more rings and 3 more boss souls for the platinum. I think the one thing that most exemplifies the problem with the remake is Astraea's boss theme. Obviously the fight is meant to be rather short and in the original the music is a fairly simple subdued loop that starts playing when you enter the fog gate. In the remake, the theme is an epic bombastic orchestral piece with a bunch of swells that doesn't begin until you attack Garl Vinland, and will end before you even get to hit any of the main parts of the song because the fight isn't meant to be this giant epic thing that lasts 5 minutes. You can argue that the original was simple and basic in every aspect and anything "soulful" was incidental, but they put more care into what they were doing than a company with access to 100x the funds and manpower they had when they made the original, because Bluepoint only really cares about improvement and any sort of cohesion between the art style and music and story and game is an afterthought. This leads to some areas looking really good like Boletaria and some areas looking like they came out of a completely different game like the flamelurker's boss arena. It's the exact same problem the Spyro remakes had.
