>5% of it is new interesting gameplay
>95% of it is making the old recipes more complex
Can't wait for Space Age to add new gameplay without shitting up the old one with needless complexity.
Currently playing K2 and I'm using fricking wood to make circuits.
I STILL don't understand how trains work
There's in game tutorials and mini games. Have you completed them all?
yeah but signals and chain signals are too big brain for me when you have a crossover
this if you
HAHAHA YOU DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND THE INSULT homie
What's stopping you from just chain in rail out all problems away?
Just watch a tutorial
1. Choose clockwise or counter-clockwise and make your train network obey that everywhere forever. Rails work properly only when trains go down them in a single direction.
2. Signals make blocks that store trains
3. Chain signals make blocks that can't store trains
4. For a train to move past a signal, it must reserve a storage block to arrive at. It reserves all non-storage blocks along the way.
4.5. Chain rail signals precede intersections, rail signals follow intersections.
5. Signals describe the rules of the block in front of them, but counterintuitively trains come to a stop behind signals, which makes it feel like signals define the block behind them.
6. Stations service one resource, each resource has loading and unloading stations, all stations that do the same action with the same resource have the same name. All trains that service a resource move between its loading and unloading stations.
7. Set a queue of >0 for every station, the sum of station queues for both loading and unloading stations for a specific resource is N. A specific resource is served by N-1 trains.
I love the train in factorio, honestly I'd play the game if it were just the trains.
Any game recs?
Factorio
Train Valley 2
transport tycoon
or just factorio, but you have friends that do everything else and let you autistically build trains in the corner.
>transport tycoon
I really wish this game wasn't just about abusing an ancient game mechanic (bug?) to make factories output +10000% more than what they're supposed to.
I've been playing it on an off since I was literally a small child and it's always bothered me that it's basically entirely about that optimization.
Krastorio 2 is better than the base game. Fight me.
I haven't played since 0.17, should I pirate the latest build and some mods?
Space Age comes out in early Fall. Best to wait until then, unless you got the itch.
>early fall
i swear the release date gets further away every time i hear about it.
it's spring and they didn't show all planets yet
What is the last planet? Judging by the last building they teased during X-mas, I'm betting it's some sort of super pumpjack/chemical planet combination, and the unique resource is going to be some sort of liquid.
There's no release date. They only said last fall that the game is "still over a year away". They haven't committed to anything.
Aug 2023
https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-373
>the date of releasing the expansion, which is planned to be about one year from now.
they didn't say "over" a year.
Yeah, it's the same shit for me, I want some more stuff to do without needlessly complicating all vanilla production lines but apparently this is too much to ask
>tfw wanted to replay for the first time in a long time, but didnt remember a lot of finer details and wanted to go through the tutorial
>tfw got fricking filtered in the tutorial
The tutorial is way different than it was when I played 4 years ago. IIRC the old one was more continuous? Like a real playthrough for the most part.
I kinda like how this it isnt very handholdy, but I also for the most part know what I'm doing because I played through the game before. If I didn't it might have been kinda difficult to parse exactly how I should be going about things.
I guess the tutorial is probably something that no one really cares about but the devs. There's little reason for any seasoned player to check it out or discuss it beyond when they first started.
I swear the overwhelming majority of modders don't get what makes this game good. But we already knew that from the bobs and angels years.
I wouldn't say that. pyanodon made me enjoy playing Factorio again
Angels is good. It adds real complexity and makes you feel big brained when you get a good set up going. Bob's is just tiers autism though.
>interested in SE
>download the mod
>AAI Industries + an entire burner only early game welded into what should be an exclusively extended late game mod
>play factorio
>get to making the final 2 potion types
>lose all interest

>reach oil phase
>quit
I dont know why but it's always this
You need at least 100IQ to solve problems with a modicum of complexity.
Reminder that you were intellectually filtered if you disliked the quality feature beyond the tier names.
hated it at first, appreciated their lengthy explanation and decided it wasn't nearly as bad as my first impression, and yes, wasn't keen on the descriptors they landed on at the time
Same, the more we hear about the need for real-estate compression on the space platforms and planets, the less upset I am about the role quality plays in the upcoming expansion.
But prior to that I was pretty damn skeptical, and it's still the first time they've made a change that immediately gave off a design smell.
i was sold when they said "save your high quality shit to send to your space platform later" and such
They definitely dropped the ball with the initial announcement but imagine if it had been included with zero explanation and we stumbled across it blind when the expac released. yech.
Though you know, I say this but I have a certain sympathy for the concerns that
brings to the table. While I think a /kind/ of thing like quality is good in terms of its output, my first impression of the process is that it is repetitive - not in the sense of building for scale, but in that the puzzle you need to solve seems to be universalized per number of item inputs. Once you have a process for a 3-resource item, you have a process for all 3-resource items, etc.
I'm also leaning towards the anxiety many players brought up that the uncertainty of quality's applicable stage in the game means you aren't incentivized to treat qualities 2, 3 and 4 like viable resting places. It's clear that most players will get to a point where they can handle quality in general, and then go straight to 5. Or, if they start quality earlier, that they'll rest on 1 until they get to the former stage.
The compression it's seeking to achieve has a critical place in the new expansion, but I'd say work is required on the puzzle and on finding better ways to enforce tier echelons.
Yeah, it may have been wiser to drop the update announcement a bit later, so the compression need was more obvious to us. Though I have to say, the more time we get to critique it, probably the better.
>factorio
>repetitive
say it isn't so!
Ha, I feel you
It's a shit RNG lootbox mechanic. Modders have implemented quality in mods years ago, by simply making additional factory tiers. The devs only introduced a new problem that only requires additional busywork. The fact that time was spent developing this abomination makes me worry for the quality of the expansion. Maybe they should've remade it 10000x times for the best possible outcome.
Now watch as brainlets slobber all over wube's wiener for how brilliant this idea is rather than calling it out the dogshit it is.
You don’t have to interact with the system at all thoughbeit
If you're making a megabase then you do.
As soon as your eyes are fixed for the blindness you have
>If you're making a megabase then you do.
elaborate on why the size of your base requires you to engage with something optional that you are so offended by
My vision is quite clear. After all, any person that that claims it's a "RNG lootbox mechanic" after reading the blogpost is clearly either illiterate or moronic. It's not the devs' fault that basic statistical concepts filters dumb people this hard.
If factorio had RNG mechanics at the beginning this wouldn't be an issue. I'd know what I'd be getting into. But introducing a """mechanic""" this bad in an expansion pack absolutely shits on the consistency players expect of this game. Blueprints are going to be a fricking nightmare while any sort of serious automation is going to be starter base tier until you spend 100 hours grinding legendary factories (which can instead by solved by just installing a mod that gives you additional factories OOPS!)
Frick people who defend this mechanic and frick you.
you can't read, can you?
>muh blueprints
you didn’t beat the game
>i can cheatmod this optional mechanic to avoid a scenario i made up in my head so it's dumb
>Muh RNG!!
See, this is reason why I called you a moron. Random permutations are only unpredictable if they are done at a small scale, hence the only time Kovarex invoked the term gatcha was when he compared it to making equipment parts in the early game. Once you do things at scale something called statistics with a little concept called "the law of big numbers" take over and you can balance your production without worrying about minor fluctuations. Any engineer knows this because it's something that every manufacturing line has to deal with, as factory defects are pretty much impossible to prevent 100%, but they aren't a big deal because they become predictable at scale.
Anyone that has an average IQ should be able to comprehended this. I actually believe you can too, you most likely just can't read.
if you're going to stubbornly misunderstand the mechanic just so you have something to get angry at then frick YOU you homosexual
Tell me, how mad does this image make you feel? Are you sad and angered that the expansion will have recipes with variable outcomes? Show me on the doll where statistics have hurt you.
base game already had nuclear power frickery, but god knows blueprintgays like that other anon just avoid nuclear at any cost
Factorio has already had rng with nuclear processing.
>It's a shit RNG lootbox mechanic.
Either you are illiterate or you suffer from mental moronation. Get help.
The frick is this? I haven't played in years. Did they really tack on a stupid WoW item tier mechanic?
we have months of weekly blogposts about the upcoming expansion.
Yeah, I'm turning this shit off in every playthrough
are you sure you don't want to whine like a toddler about how you're being forced into using it?
Now that you mention it, yeah I'd rather do that!
doesn't it feel great to fit in?
qrd on why people don't like this? Sounds fun to me
t. minmaxer
For me personally, I like the idea of quality if it was restricted only to factories, mines, production buildings and the modules themselves.
But the moment you apply that shit to every item produced, it opens a huge fricking can of worms. I'm a mixmaxer too and I know I'll be compelled to recycle every single thing until I achieve the best quality in everything.
So instead of a straightforward steel plate + copper cable = electronic chip, it's gonna be steel plate > recycled to better steel plate > recycled to even better steel plate + copper cable > recycled to better copper cable > recycled to even better copper cable = chip > recycled to better chip > recycled to even better chip. Apply this to every single item and you quickly realize the massive headache this brings about.
I don't like it because it feels redundant in a game that already has tiered items. I'm never going to remember which is better between an epic assembling machine 1 and an uncommon assembling machine 3.
It also killed off their ability to add alternative recipes because of the recycling machine, and it's made what they've shown of the new production buildings so far feel pretty lackluster.
it just feel completely unnecessary
if they wanted to give you assemblers that assemble faster they could've just added a new tier of assemblers. same thing with turrets, solar panels etc.
but instead it's now gonna have to be this complicated process of running buildings through slot machines. obviously over time you will get all the legendaries you might want so it's impossible i just don't like the idea of it and probably won't bother with the system
It's not a slot machine though. It's a ratio output. Also it's far better than your idea because your idea is just the same shit over again.
The recycling and quality system allows you to make better items without having to introduce new recipes for everything. All you need to do is recycle, and then make the decision on how high quality you want your goods based on how much resources your willing to spend.
The same shit happens in real factories. Quality control will throw away and recycle defective products. This is just a gamified twist on that.
Correct, but you reddit spaced so now i gotta call you a gay
>calling markdown "reddit spacing"
You need to go back.
there's one of the filtered brainlets now that doesn't know it can be ignored entirely
god, that was fast
When is the next big update/DLC coming out for Factorio, is there a date?
Space Age or whatever the expansion is called is scheduled for fall of this year (but that was never properly set in stone, just a target to shoot for)
game still breaks down once your teched up enough that bugs are more annoying than fun as they poise no threat.
fun game, if you can't get to the endgame thats only about moving walls of turrets to your artillery range for 8 hours then you didn't beat the game.
I have 500+ hours in Factorio and have never launched a rocket. I just like resource management and killing bugs.
>Except that you can get a feedback loop that trivally gives you want you need.
You realize this video is a feedback loop that does exactly what you mentioned, right?
You shouldn't have to do this shit! I've said this time and time again! I've said this on the forums multiple times before they banned me for the crime of wanting to help the game! WHY THE HELL WON'T THEY LISTEN TO ME THAT NO ONE WANTS THIS FRICKING INANE moronic GRINDY WOD LOOTBOX GARBAGE!? I WANT WHAT'S BEST FOR THE GAME, AND EVERYONE IS FRICKING IGNORING ME! EVEN AFTER I WAS BANNED ALL THE EMAILS I SENT TO THE DEVS WERE FRICKING IGNORED. WHY THE *FRICK* CAN'T ANYONE SEE THIS!?!?!?!!
>noooo you HAVE to interact with the optional mechanic, I told the devs that I didn't want to though and they ignored me
is this really the same board that says you didn't beat a game if you used a certain mechanic?
IT IS NOT FRICKING OPTIONAL. IF YOU ARE NOT USING *EVERY* TOOL AT YOUR DISPOSAL WHEN YOU'RE MAKING A BASE THEN YOU'RE A NON-ENTITY. WHY THE FRICK CAN'T YOU moronS SEE THIS!?!?!
It's optional though, are you brown or just Russian?
I've launched rockets without laser turrets, solar energy, or batteries. I've launched rockets without modules. I've launched rockets without spidertrons. I've launched rockets without trains.
In conclusion, skill issue.
>you're a moron fricking around with shit nobody wants if you engage with quality
>you don't exist if you don't
soak your fricking head
shut up, non entity
man, it really must suck to be left out like that because the game is too "complicated" for you
My email wasn’t ignored.
It's optional Mr ape.
Have you ever considered that you are wrong and have no valid argument?
>grindy
They don't listen to you because you betray yourself as a moron. The point of the game is automating the grind. If you complain about it you are unironically playing the game wrong
>Anytime you're going to post a base without quality, people are going to point out you're not using quality
fembrained social media moron needs the approval of others to enjoy his software.
fricking pathetic. Glad my eyes jumped to this bit so I don't have to waste time reading your garbage mass reply cope
NO, wait, there's a bit underneath the quick reply window that I just skimmed where you are pretending one dude has hijacked the entire game's development. radical.
this anon came here from the future to tell us what anons will and won't tolerate in factorio threads next year.
Say thanks to him!
can confirm. Came here from 2028 to tell you i've spent a year and a half straight analyzing and inspecting every bit of Factorio Space Age content to see if the player is using quality or not, and I'm calling the police if they don't
factorio needs less autism and more base building and diverse bugs (underground, banelings, flying). right now you just get to oil and the game is over
What autism? Game is about building factories, not mining trees.
>Reach purple and yellow
>Need to increase steel production by 800%
Frick doing that everytime
UPDATE THE GAME RIGHT NOW
>modded factorio plays just like factorio, there's just more shit to manufacture
Is this somehow surprising? Did you expect the mod to turn it into Pokemon?
You need a different mod for that.
Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokemon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokemon for humans?
Just look at what Space Age is doing without making existing recipes more complex.
But a lot of mods DO add unique challenges
>space exploration adds interplanetary logistics, the two (more) dimensional scaling of research productivity with catalogues, insight and significant data
>ultracube makes you design a central core of the factory that maximizes the cube utilization, then redesign it with new processes
>freight forwarding makes you handle packing and unpacking cargo, transport routes with multiple transfers, island logistics with ships and production buildings that you can't build
I saw a mod tycoon that wants to convert the game to a more openttd-style transport sim, with passangers, businesses and cities, but I literally don't have enough time to play all the factorio I want
My issue with Space Exploration is that every planet you landed on ended up being the same mining outpost, only you needed to do this like 8 times for all the resources. By the time I got the last resource I just tapped out.
Space Age seems to have fixed this, thank god.
I loved Factorio but its quite easy and the game completely loses all sense of purpose once you build the rocket. I feel it would be fairly straightforward to add some things to make it fun after that point such as more challenging bugs. You have infinite space and infinite resources so absolutely no challenge in that respect either. They should make it so bugs become increasingly threatening after the rocket so you really have to optimize things.
The rocket is the end of the game anon.
If you want a bug-hell experience, try Rampant.
generate space science until you get bored?
that's what I've been doing
