Its actually kind of nuts how this series can still be popular while the story has pretty much been set in stone since like the early 90s.
It will forever keep attracting new fans because of how timeless it is. It's never going to be forgotten and even people unfamiliar with it unknowingly reference concepts it introduced similar to e.g. Alice in Wonderland. I've read hundreds of mangas according to my MAL list but there's nothing that I think could dethrone Dragon Ball from my all time number one spot.
But will it surpass OG Monkey King? Will children of the future forget written tradition as Legendary Super Ultimate Budokai 52 comes out?

The story of Z is timeless and kino. They truly could get away with retelling the story in the games until the damn heat death of the universe. Just make sure it has a kick ass OST playing in the background.

Toriyama has written every single Dragonball movie since Battle of the Gods, there hasn’t been a non-canon Dragonball movie since the fricking nineties. Toei made the Super anime, and Toyotaro the manga, around concepts Toriyama wants to work for his movies. Dragonball Daima on the other hand is the first Dragonball TV anime where Toriyama will be writing, rather than be based around his manga like it was in the eighties and nineties era of Dragonball.

Toriyama's credit for Daima's story is just "story" so far, which is the same as the Super tv anime/manga, not the movies. Now, they did say he's more involved than before, but I'd wait for the show to be out and more comments come about its production to see what's real.

Everything he's "written" was rewritten a number of times by Toei/Toyotaro.
BoG itself was actually a Toei script that Toriyama rewrote (in a way that almost seems like he was taking the piss), which was rewritten AGAIN by another guy, because it wasn't proper screenplay format. This is just BoG.
The Super anime in particular is WAY more fricked up, because Toei changed and added shit to whatever bulletpoints Toriyama made incredibly liberally. Kale was literally a Toei creation, for example, she was not in Toriyama's basic outlines. He did however tell Toei to add Caulifla.

Because even anime exclusive characters like Gel Vegeta have been used in a DB videogame while the manga original characters have been ignored everywhere (the gachas, DBH, you name it), so a common theory running around is that Toei are actively avoiding featuring them anywhere outside of the manga.

True but in a lesser way. The movies ignore details of the anime while the movies ignored two narrative arcs of the manga. In the other hand the anime was the debut of DBS and adapted DBZ battle of the gods into their first season, while the manga had to adapt the first season of the anime.

I think Sparking Zero's models look great. I do have some problems with a few of them but outside of that I think it's as close to FighterZ as a 3D DB game can be.

If this game has actually been in development for 5 years then it'll probably cover everything, GT included. You have to remember that BT games don't try to cover the story in a cinematic way. They usually gave a plot summary and then had a bit of dialogue to give context to the fight, so it won't take much effort to cover arcs and movies compared to something like Kakarot.

Each character has its own moveset, unique passive, and mechanics (Gero sucks your ki and gets stronger the more ki he accumulates, 17 can cancel his combos anytime, Babidi shoots inflicts a debuff that sucks HP when you use ki, Kid Gohan gains ki from hitting people and has unblockable 9 bar supers, Blue Godku has specials with timed button presses, SS3 Goku has specials that require button mashing, Raditz has a cancel that lets him counter enemies anytime, etc.).

Shinobi Striker doesn't just sell you the characters, it's also the movesets and clothing (they affect stats so it's not just cosmetic) which you can mix up on your OC. And those releases help the game stay alive and interesting to those who play it.
If this is the same deal and not just straight up character DLC with nothing else to offer then it's not that bad.

You know what I mean, Tenkaichi IS Sparking, and the japanese website said the game IS going to have the largest roster in the series. Needless to say, 5 years of dev time should be enough for 260 characters.
Tenkaichi was known for it's numerous alts as well, it'd be neat if they brought them back.

Characters had 1-3 alts and bruised versions that may or may not have been shared. If you were to combine every adult Goku and make bruised versions selectable, it'd be at least 20 different costumes, way more than 3.

I think separating the series into arcs and then letting the players choose which to start with is best.
Start with Saiyans, then once you beat Vegeta you unlock the Piccolo and Namek arcs. Then once you beat one of them you unlock another 2 arcs, and so on.

Kinda hard to tell, if this game really is going to have the biggest roster in the series, there's a chance every major character in the series will already be included in the base game. DLC will probably be relegated to either side and minor characters, or whoever new pops up in Daima.

Not sure if it's true or not, but I remember hearing a rumor that the reason Daima exists is so that Toei can let Toyble make enough arcs to animate without overlapping the manga. I believe around 5 arcs to be precise. I guess if you count the Superhero retelling, the manga is 3 arcs ahead.

We could see Gamma Burst Flash, Goku with Hakai, etc but I doubt we’ll see actual characters when not even Heroes has done so. Hell, Heroes opted to give Vegeta his own OC donut steel form just so he can keep up with UI.

Would be an easy one for any of the main crew and some of the side characters. Android Arc Goku could get his Yardrat outfit, Vegeta could get his miscolored armor from that one filler episode, Bardock could get a armor version or a version with bandana, Tao could get his cyborg getup, etc.
