I'm gonna admit I never played the Tenkiachi games or the Budokai games. I only played Infinte World and the Budokai game that was on the PSP and I loved them back then (specially Infinite World). I even had a Dragon Ball Evolution game on my PSP.

If we count the popular and relevant Super characters, sum them up with BT3's roster and cut some of the less popular choices, we may get close to what the roster will be like.
I think 100 unique characters as a starting roster would be a good selling point, which is just 8 more unique characters than BT3 so it's not completely unrealistic.

We saw Bergamo which implies Toppo, U6 saiyans, Frost, Ribrianne, Cell Max, maybe even Jaco and Whis.
The relevant Super characters as I see them (from their popularity, episodes in the anime and participants in games) are as follows (not counting Jiren or Bergamo because they're already in):
Beerus, Whis, Vados, Champa, Hit, Caulifla+Kale (who make Kefla), Cabba, Frost, Zamasu+Goku Black (together they make Merged Zamasu), Toppo, Gamma 1 & 2, Jaco, Ribrianne, Gohan Beast, DBS Gogeta, Cheelai, Dyspo, Lavender and Basil.
They're not that many characters but I can see them kicking off some minor BT3 roster members like the Pilaf robots.
You still need super variants of Z characters.
I'm not sure Lavender and Basil are guaranteed a spot since Bergamo is the leader of the group. They might include some of the other leaders from other universes. If giants are in, then Agnilasa probably will be there. If no giants, then you still have other characters like Ganos, the bird guy that fought Roshi, or Majora, the blind fox that got defeated by a team up of 18 and Kuririn.
It's possible they're going from Raging Blast 2 assets rather than actual Tenkaichi (his fighting stance in the trailer is straight from Raging Blast. It also was used in Tenkaichi, but only by base Cell Saga Vegeta).
Cheelai is popular but she never really did any fighting so she probably won't be playable

They already did a lot of that with the raging blast games, I'm pretty sure one of their gacha games also still reuses tenkaichi animations, it's entirely possible that they'll lazily reuse assets to bloat the roster because they know people will lose their shit over it.
I have a feeling reissued assets are going to be from Xenoverse and Kakarot. Maybe Legends as Heroes is using Legends models in their newer releases.
If they can raid Legends for assets that would be a huge benefit. The only characters that game doesn't have is the manga-only ones.

Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza don't play exactly like BT3 at all. Those games are decades old, they can't reuse assets that old.
Smash Ultimate still uses assets from Brawl. If there's a will, there is a way.
This is assuming they copied the models from BT3 to RB though, which would make sense since it was the same company. Even then they should still have the code from the RB games since they're HD now, and it would be easier to port then that way.
Like I mentioned above, Vegeta in the trailer had the same stance he had in Raging Blast 2. So, they're probably at least reusing RG2 animations.

If Vegeta never went ape, what would’ve happened? Krillin and Gohan probably wouldn’t have came back because no light in the sky. After the Kamehameha and Galick Gun clash, Goku basically paralyzed himself for a bit because Kaio-Ken x4. He’d probably still lose unless Solar Flare is more effective against a person than a giant ape, enough to generate the full-power spirit bomb and land it. The one Krillin threw was weaker, I’m positive if Goku landed that original spirit bomb it would’ve fricking wrecked Vegiter.

I'm expecting cuts because it feels like games care more about balance and popularity than fun. We get our mandated token character in Hercule and the rest all have to be equally viable to each other in some way.
Honestly, best case scenario is at least cuts to some characters so we can finally have a game again where I can pick characters like Cell or Frieza again instead of static, segregated forms with no transformation option. No reason I can't just choose to start in say, Super Saiyan Blue instead of having to play as "Goku (Super Saiyan Blue)" unless the devs are being anal about balance.

Like 15 points to build a team, sure Z Broly is busted but he costs 8/9 points so you can pick up kid Gohan at 3 and 16 at 5 and have the same amount of life bars and the ability to swap between them so they can heal.
Unless you mean modern models, old models can't just be transferred like that, they'd have to have entirely new topography, rigging, etc. anyways shit is like 20 years old.

If you want to have a proper big roster, it needs to be able to recreate any fight in the series. Basic rule of thumb, outside the main Z-warriors/villains: if Goku or Vegeta fought them, they should be in. That means frickers like Android 19, Pui Pui, Dodoria, all of them. If you're gonna give us the same story mode for the thousandth time, I wanna play through the weird obscure stomp matches too.

The aesthetic clash between the cartoony char model and the semi-realistic stage is a bit weird imo, but it's still extremely satisfying to see the characters not look like plastic garbage a la Xenoverse, props to Spike for getting this right
The facial animations are amazing, but a lot of the characters look weird from certain angles. Goku looks just as good as fighterZ from the side but awkward facing the screen. Vegeta and Tien have weird looking alien heads.

Broly was sucked off hard in many games, in BT3 he was one of the best characters because he had the super-armor of giants while not having to be a giant. I’m actually glad they took away this armor if you were were around Super Saiyan 3 or higher in power, but he still tanked ki-blasts even he was fighting Vegito or Gogeta. My main complaint comes from the new Super incarnation of Broly that is insanely powerful. Please, PLEASE don’t adapt this mechanic here because only like 3 characters would be able to break it with punches. Super Saiyan Blue Vegito/Gogeta, Ultra Instinct Goku, maybe Beerus.

They wouldn't have been that interested in Dr. Slump even if it got crazy there. Toei tried to pitch Dr Slump for North American TV networks twice, first the 80s version and then the 90s version, the 90s version had a dubbed trailer and everything and while channels in Latam picked both shows up they were rejected by every single USA network multiple times and Toei gave up on pitching it for an English dub/release
For Toonami, it made sense given the mature material. It would fall on Toei to try to cut out those scenes and censor a bunch of shit and I doubt they'd go through all that effort so it was never gonna work sadly.

This game is coming out the next year believe it or not, every Dragon Ball game with a store page has been available within 8-12 months since the PS3 days
I could be mistaken so don't quote me on this but I seem to remember them teasing more Daima news next month in an event called Dragon Ball Battle Hour (or something like that). and that's actually a Gankerdiya centric event. So we are probably also going to get Tenkiachi / Sparking news. Including the release date.
If Daima is coming Fall 2024 then Tenkiachi/Sparking is coming out Summer 2024. This is my guess. The game's release date will be July or August.
I think Sparking Zero is gonna have to release after Daima if they want to get Daima characters in the base game.

actually a brilliant marketing scheme the more i think about it. Don't even show Gohan when you reveal he's in it just do a quick cut of kid gohans hands rebounding the spirit bomb, youth gohans hand firing the kamehameha, teen gohans hands missing the potara catch, beast gohans hand firing the sbc.
they're really going to milk these trailers, wouldn't be surprised if we get seperate trailers just for goku, vegeta and gohan, showcasing their transformations and ending with ultra instinct, ultra ego and beast respectively.

Even if we look at Spike as a whole they're not what they once were. Their recent anime crossover games are bad. So we don't know if Tenkiachi 4 is going to be good or bad.
I looked at the Jump Force credits a while back and a lot of names are also credited for Sparking Meteor/BT3.
Whether that's a good or bad thing though is another can of worms. I at least believe it'll be fine since that's a different beast and we've seen a bit of the fighting. It'll be at least as good as RB2.

by the time he's introduced king cold is supposed to be stronger than frieza, we just never see it since he dies so quickly.
Piccolo and Krillin mention in the anime there is a more monstrous power than Frieza on the ship. So His big form is at least stronger than Mecha-Frieza.
But the manga says Cold's power level isn't quite as strong as Frieza's.

I think with the movie, SS Goku was stronger than the SS Goku who fought Frieza back on Namek. He got stronger since then.
I like to thing that Cooler is somehow the "Raditz?" Of the family. Like, while her Father is (probably) more stronger than the average of her race and her brother is a prodigy. He has born as a weakling who had to constantly train, train and train. To the point of developing a unique 5th transformation JUST to match the average force of his family. (And even then, remain being the weakest of the three)

The black line is there, that's the same black line used for all the Budokai Tenkaichi games for split screen. If they were showing just a side by side of Goku/Vegeta, there was no need of putting the black line in the middle.
But during the transformation only one screen appears, unless you can transform two at the same time
Give it or take it but I think that soft-confirms that your opponent no longer will freeze in place if you do a Super Attack/Transformation with a cinematic effect, maybe some Ki attacks will be bigger to compensate for that fact

Vegeta's Galick Gun in the trailer was faster than his Galick Gun in BT3, same with Goku's Kamehameha, so there's that at least.
There's those, but there's always been charge beams that don't stop time like the Kamehameha in question.
I'm thinking like blast volleys and super explosive wave where you can't vanish (unless you have godly timing for the latter) and have to run away instead. They'd have to be completely scrapped and recreated to be viable.

I'm not sure what you're thinking of, but that was never a problem with the Tenkaichi series. It actually makes some attacks easier to dodge at closer ranges since you can just hold guard during the cutscene and instantly teleport to safety.
Trailer listed the gameplay footage to be in game and the japanese are extremely specific about that, down to Nintendo making clear every smash ultimate trailer is not footage of the game despite anyone with common sense knowing this

Realtime Environmental Destruction. Basically you can destroy the stage with Ki blasts/really hard punches and it stays destroyed.
This is the only game that features such thing at that scale, which is really fricking cool.

Doesn't change the fact the game has an absurd amount of content and a huge roster. That and FighterZ show that there are games that put an effort.
Zero probably won't be as good as BT3 but it doesn't mean it won't be any good whatsoever.
Xenoverse is Dimps, who also helm Heroes and Legends, totally different ballpark.
They're betting on the goodwill of the players that are expecting a big roster, every single article of the game emphasise the roster expectations and the game director even addressed it in the recent IGN interview (although he didn't confirm anything), of course this game will have DLC but I don't think it will be as egregious as Xenoverse.
Either way we're getting more characters that BT3, at release or with the live service approach, the only thing we need to be good is a serviceable story mode, local multiplayer and engaging gameplay like the originals (not Raging Blast floaty bullshit)

Spike is the one who did the budokai tenkaichi games, no other company would ever do another installment.
I'd rather look at it this way: they let jump force die so this could live. Development took 5 years, meaning they were working on this a year before Jump Force released
