Why do I see so many people saying Berserker is hard? I picked him up and played him because I like characters with longer range normals and aggressive playstyles. He does moron damage for pretty low effort. I know I'm only winning right now because everyone is unoptimal with their characters and I only need a few interactions to take rounds, but nothing about him so far has been very hard to learn.

Grappler is absolutely the lowest tier in the game.
If grappler gets in he can end you, but he has to work three times harder to get in than you do. Literally just throw out a low attack and there's nothing he can do but block.

The issue with vangaurd is that he's supposed to be a long range poker since he has a spear, but everyone in the game has half screen or full screen moves which basically makes his supposed strong Point moot
The problem with Ranger is that he's got some incredibly broken matchups that he literally can't lose, I.E, Vanguard, Crusader, Inquisitor, and Lost Warrior, but then he's got some bullshit matchups that are so antifun to play it makes me wanna smash my controller. Like Swift Master, Kunoichi, and Dragon Knight. So while I agree he's good, he's got some glaring flaws that make it almost impossible to play against some characters. Lack of good anti airs or air to airs make it tough to take on characters that can hang out up there. And his fastest move is fricking 10 frames, meaning you lose every fricking scramble situation if you find yourself in one. I wouldn't mind if they nerfed some of his full screen bullshit if I could just get some more reliable moves. Like if you go from playing Axl to Ranger you'll notice some shit missing from your kit immediately. Make 2A faster, make 5S faster, give us an actual anti-air that doesn't cost all our MP, and replace jA with something actually usable.

You want to drench people in holy oil before burning them to do even more damage. Wheel absolutely fricks air, which is irrelevant because everyone is low ground spam (because it ignores all counter moves, has to be actively moved into and has largest reach most of the time.)
Actually, the oil will frick up your flame carpet and f.MP. It will give you better knockdowns though, but using it mid combo is hard and only possible in the corner.

guard + forward lets you do a roll, but guard + back/down/up do nothing at all, and guard serves absolutely zero purpose while mid-air, that's an entire button dedicated to something that has only two uses and isn't even an hotkey for an action you can do with other things

Awakenings also feel very one-note in that you mostly use them to tack free damage at the end of a combo that's sure to kill, there's no good reason to throw them out on neutral unless you're Hitman, nor is there anything else you can spend your Awakening on like Rage Drives vs. Rage Arts in Tekken 7
the basic movement combined with the massive buttons of every character also feels bizarre and make potential interactions in neutral very limited, it feels like there should at least be a superjump to deal with most character's shit in neutral

This game is so fricking fun. I haven't had fun playing a fighting game in ages, and the netcode is damn good too, haven't had issues at all with randoms. I noticed that the actual development was left to another studio entirely and that in the credits, arcsys basically provided a bunch of management and nothing else. I dare say, the game turned out good precisely because the arcsys cancer was kept to a very bare minimum or else this could've been Strive 2 but somehow even less fun.

I cans positively that this game IS NOT casual friendly in the slightest.
It's like majority of your combos and tricks are all timing based in order to get the combos going.
You'd have to have good reactions and spacing to be good at this game and those are traits casuals lack and takes years of playing to develope.
Granblue amd strive are WAYYYYYY more casual than this game. Even dbz fighter had target combos into specials that casuals could easily do, but good luck doing that in dnf cause even basic combos require precise timing and mashing doesn't really work at all.
This game is all about frame traps, spacing, and timing.

Yeah if you don't have good defense in this game you're going to have a bad time and casuals new to fighting games don't like to block.
Everything you guys mentioned is prevalent in every fighting game. This game has some difficult combos but that doesn't automatically put it on the same difficulty level as Rev, mechanically it's very casual friendly compared to others.
If you think that stuff like timing or defense is advanced stuff then you've either not played many other fighting games before this or you're bad at them.
DNF turns everything up to eleven. Even if you're a veteran with good defense you're still going to struggle with the nonsense in this game.
Which is why it's silly to make comparisons of difficulty. I was watching Clearlamp (number 1 Byakuya player in Japan for UNI) getting thrashed while playing one of the easiest characters in the game (Hitman). This game does require patience to learn how to deal with all of the crazy gimmicks but once you get in the rewards are amazing when you can pull off your own crazy bag of tricks.
I think this game would've been quite the spectacle if it got EVO main stage presence with just 1.5 months of practice in. Hopefully it gets in next year assuming ArcSys doesn't put in GBVS again.

vanguard is a bit weak and will get worse
Launcher is a scrub stomper. But not strong in the slightest. Anyone who passes the knowledge check knows that:
5A > 5AA can be rolled through
5A > 5AA > X can be rolled through
If x =
2B, certain characters can punish it in reaction
5B, any character can roll through it. Even if you are tagged by the very tip of the flamethrower nozzle, you are only taking a slight white health as a loss. You gain conversion and closer positioning to the launcher. Launcher has no mix and cannot oki from 5B
5S, roll through for free punish
6S, same as 5S
5M, Laser is minus on hit. If you roll and get tagged by laser, it is now your turn
6M, roll timing is different, but you still get a punish if rolled through
4M, the only option that launcher is not entirely punished for (but you can still DP to deal with the cluster bombs and hit her at the same time). Though every launcher I have seen and myself included do not use 4M in blockstrings solely because it is a huge MP investment for little reward.
Launcher has no mixup. Only guard break. And her guard break isn't even that good. Her highest guard meter draining moves are 6M and jM. She can only safely jM on everyone but Striker if she also locks you down with jS and even then, all it does is a lot of chip in white health and guard damage.
You can legitimately hold down back against Launcher and wait until she closes the gap to DP her or hit her. If she tries to bait your DP, then you now know she is afraid of you DPing on reaction to her running to grab and can simply bully her approaching. These are general knowledge checks for all characters, but every character (minus Hitman and Vanguard) have their own tools that make Launcher suffer even more. Swiftmaster in general is one of her worst matchups because she has very bad defensive options and if she does not preemptively stay on his ass (being in range where he wants to be to begin with) or 5M him the moment he sets up 4M, he can run in for free.
Launcher is not strong. And the more time that passes, every other character is having new tech and ideas spread while Launcher is getting more disadvantageous on existence. Sure, if the person does not pass the knowledge checks, she will do alright. But it all goes downhill against competent players (especially players who are playing the top characters at the moment).
I don't consider Launcher strong but I do find her annoying as frick which is just as bad.

It's a fun time, but the learning curve might be a bit steep. Sorta middle-of-the-road in terms of complexity as far as anime fighters go, but you can get decently far without worrying about the hard stuff.

Fighting striker as launcher feels way harder than it should be with her special that goes through everything. It doesn't help that since she's tall a lot of strikers jumping kicks will clip

They can do a couple things, like jump or do a little punch. They can punch you out of 5B so I reccomend 5A, 5B, 5B, 2S -> whatever route you want. They can punch you or jump out of the 5B and theres lots of recovery, so a 5A lets you hit them if they punch and recover as they jump.
This is what I usually do when the actual grab lands, the super is longer than the actual combo so I cut it out, but it does 641 damage. No oki, though, so this better kill. Most people have never fought an enchantress so it's very likely they will be mashing as the doll so 5A usually works out.

Yeah just mash 5b then, you can't combo them as a doll unfortunately since they get lots of invincibility and multi hits don't work since they'll bounce off the first hit. Unless there's some secret tech I haven't found out 5B 3 times is about as much as you can get right now.

I have been bullshitting my combos too but the main goal with combos is to get rid of their white health, you dont want a combo where they heal half the damage back afterwards. If you're not too confident in doing the hard link in combos of 2B into 4M, just end your combos with 6S. I can't offer much else since I just do the combos from the trials, just wait for the lab gods to put out the optimal stuff.
I hope there'll be a mod to switch lines with the originals in dfo. I miss how my character screams his lines.

I thought it was pretty convenient to use that notation since all games seem to have different names for their buttons nowadays, but I guess I'll just stick to calling everything in Guilty Gear notation then since it sounds cooler than Hard Slash sounds cooler than MP button.
Melty had D earlier for sure but it was for shield and had no real spot on combo notations. The button name wasn't used much and I'm not even sure the motion+shield stuff were in the first melty but that might be just my memory. Just getting used to simple different abbreviations isn't hard, especially considering it's the regular A, B and then only S and M.

Hell you can check the last two major FG release (MBTL and KOFXV) and its the exact same pattern. DNF is even trending better than them but it doesn't matter. What matters is the number when it stabilises and the netcode that allows acceptable matches. Is it going to be a KOFXV at 1k peak or a MBTL which is sub 100?

Mistress iirc was kidnapped by a cult and branded. Later more brands/symbols started to appear, and after that her demon powers started to develop. The church knows about women like this and tries to keep it hush-hush.

A really hot chick who used to be about debuffing opponents but that part got reworked. She has an install that changes her into a succubi so I could see them using that part in DNF. Gets stronger the more she hits crap in her install, very long range in the install form. Also used to have above average amount of holds but that part also doesn't matter for DNF.
Has a shaman class. Puts down crap that attacks you, lasers you herself. Has a pet magic chinese dragon. Has a move similar to Chipp's old gamma blade. One of her cards slows in an aoe and can be detonated on command
I'm not sure about the current player numbers but I think the edgy install girl (pic rel) is probably the most popular class, only skewed because the crusader is one of the three buffer classes so required. Shaman is iirc the least popular.

links in general, like grapplers 4s that you have to hold after you knock them up with 5m. If you do it before your character is able to move around freely you just start walking backwards and drop your combo
Links are just something you'll need to learn and get used to, it's very common in fighting games though admittedly less so in anime games.

I have my settings accept any rankings for opponents and I still only see people one rank above me at most.
Unless you're including the number values beside each rank, by which then who cares since level 1 and level 4 are often identical in skill.

You've got pretty nifty pressure, and you're good at hitting me out of wind tornados when I try to skip neutral. If you just get a bit more consistent with your combos, you'll be plenty scary to fight against.

Swifty's probably got a good match-up against almost everyone. Dude's incredibly good in almost every way. It's great.
Yeah enchantress pressure is built upon stealing turns, none of the puppet cancels are safe, if you think she's going to try something funny mash like you were doing, that was good.
Most of Enchantress' moves kinda suck so the wind shield is just ex skip neutral for you in that match up. I also don't really reccomend DPing when the puppet is active, I got hit because I'm dumb but its essentially just a safejump, safe on whiff, plus on block, if you get counter hit you die.
I was trying to do her air kara cancel but i kept fricking up, that and her combos, her conversions are super wacky, you have to be really particular about what route you go.

For Swift Master, there's honestly not a whole lot I can say, 'cause the dude is genuinely just super good. The one thing I will point out, though, is that his normals are horribly slow to recover on whiff. If you can roll through a B normal, that's a free punish. Hell, you can punish them on block if I don't cancel into anything else.

It's not just Strive or even anime fightans, IIRC Tekken had a major fricking shift to Steam so much that it had double the playerbase a year or two ago and it was the only growing option. This is despite that fact that it was the opposite early on, the port is still crap and it lacks content exclusive to playstation.
There had been some serious blunders with fightan on PC before (including that infamous Chinese tournament), but during lockdowns the FGC realized that PC has generally better input delay across the board as well as having ways to augment the streaming experience and shit like parsec if the game had shit netcode
It also forced jp devs to finally take rollback seriously so hopefully crossplay is next

nta but the game is very different from previous Guilty Gear games so some of the older GGgays have been seething at the game since it got announced, doubly so after it became way more popular than any other Guilty Gear.
It's not a bad fighter, its just that the people who hate it are very vocal about it.
I could list off a lot of superficial things and b***h about the direction it took the story as a fan who's even played Overture but these come off as nitpicks in the grand scheme of it so the core of why I don't like the game on a mechanical level comes down to conversions being too brainless, combos being too easy for too much reward, the wall break mechanic, and my character being way less fun than in prior entries.
It gets really old to see every round unfold based on who gets the first tap into neutral so they can autopilot into their corner carry wallbreak and then you have to watch the pace-breaking wallbreak animation every round after someone lost 50% or more to some total baby mode combo, and almost all the cast plays like that. In short I just think it's way too homogenized and matches are very samey as a result
they dumbed it down while also making it hyper competitive so it ended up being the worst of both worlds
People who really like older guilty gear games are mad that it's intentionally wildly different because the devs wanted to get a wider audience and it worked. People who normally play other fighting games are mad that it's still guilty gear enough to offend them. People who want the old school "just let it rock" mentality when it comes to game balance are upset they keep patching the game and people who are into that kind of thing are upset that the patches don't kneecap the characters they lose against.
I personally think the game is better then xrd because it's more honest about being a casualified guilty gear from a boomer daisuke that seems more invested in making cool vocal songs for video games then an actual video game but I don't especially love either game.
Strive is popular, a big change for the series and simplified which are all things that are going to make people shit on it on their own, but it has plenty of real issues. Everything to do with the online outside of the rollback itself is something I think even Strive's biggest fans can agree on being bad, and it is easy to see why someone who was attached to the XX/Xrd version of a character wouldn't like their Strive version. Strive characters just have such different, and sometimes just neutered, movesets that it's bound to upset people who liked the more involved older versions, and something similar could be said of more universal mechanics like how simple the movement is. Even setting everything else aside, the game still has a very "beta" feel to it and compared to Xrd basic aspects of presentation feel pretty lacking. I do like Strive personally, but it's not hard to see why people have gotten bored or tired of it, and it does feel pretty rough in a lot of ways that are hard to justify.
It's a matter of personal taste and character selection really. I like this game, strive, +R, type lumina, mvc3, dbfz and Tekken 7 equally but there are many diehard xrd/+R fans that hate strive for many reasons mostly how different and high damage it is compared to those two.

Is it me or does this game require you to have perfect hit confirms? I feel like I flub up so much shit since my hit confirms are trash and I just go into block strings since I'm scared I fricked up.
yeah some attacks have delay or require specific hit comfirms after a string to continue the combo.

I'm playing DK right now and it feels like hell, her launch is key to starting her combos but confirming into it is so distance specific that I constantly feel like I just eat shit for trying to use it. It sucks since her normals in general have good range, but the hitstun is just so low that my gorilla brain can't process if it landed or not.
