Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince

I wanted to play through this blind but I'm getting fricked trying stuff from Joker 3. Combined 8 slimes into 4 into 2 and they didn't end up making a king slime, they don't make anything at all. Slime's skill doesn't even have a + version.
Difficulty really spiked to beat the low tier areas. Guy doing aoes for more than 75% of team's hp multiple times per round.
Seasons are really annoying if you have to wait half an hour to get something in every area. Means you can't catch what you want 75% of the time.
The early areas are overly simple but the middle ones seem like they are going to be larger. First one has you running in circles through indistinguishable buildings while clock is ticking to change the paths that are open.
Forced obnoxious companions.
It does have >500 monsters listed, which is nice. They must have most of them modeled by now so graphics aren't holding it back.

So far feels a lot worse than Joker 3. Is that the general consensus?

I never played Joker 3, although now it sounds as though I'm going to have to. I beat The Dark Prince somewhat recently, I think I know what you're going through because there were difficult points, but I feel they let up.

    I used this site: https://game8.co/games/DQM-Dark-Prince/archives/436683

There is a ton of stuff the game doesn't really teach or tell you, and it's at least good to know how synthesis works. There are also good YouTube videos out there.

You will want that for Joker 3. There is a spreadsheet somewhere on reddit for all the monster and abilitiy combinations. There are a small number you can't make due to exclusive shit. Monsters can be 1-4 slots in size and they have abilities to move around the world.

i only played the first DGQM for gameboy before. this was my favorite game as a kid, even liked it more than pokemon.
my biggest gripe with dark prince is the sheer amount of recolored monster and the atrocious performance of the switch.
the season mechanic looks good on paper, but is just annoying a few hours into the game especially because the items you find in the season areas are just dogshit.
if you have trouble with trash mobs just synthesize more. you can synthesize monsters in lower echelon that can carry you until endgame.

Performance is definitely an issue but it's not really a problem emulating. It does crash though, once maybe every 10-15 hours and this happens on console too. It has autosaves constantly so I don't think you'd lose more than a minute. Still I don't remember any console game actually crashing.
Most chests do seem to be 3 seeds or battle items but a few are accessories. The enemy drop rate actually exists in this compared to other DQ games so you can get better accessories from them. The winged demon guys at the end of the sand temple place drop accessories with 30s to 3 stats.

      >if you have trouble with trash mobs just synthesize more. you can synthesize monsters in lower echelon that can carry you until endgame
This also its important to know what skill trees you're adding to your synths. Research what combos/stat combinations are good.

In joker 3 abilities like materialist and slime have a + version that is gone in Dark Prince.

This is easily the best DQM game to come out. It's a shame it's being held back by Nintendo's shitty platform.
      >Difficulty really spiked to beat the low tier areas
You should only be breeding early on to rank up your monsters. That's why you're dying so fast, you have low stats
      >The early areas are overly simple
yup. The areas get larger and more complex as you go
      >Forced obnoxious companions
I love my canon elf-wife and goofriend you are just anti-fun
      >General Consensus?
There isn't one. DQM3 is forgotten. I will say that the game is exactly what I wanted. A near endless grindfest with many options for breeding monsters. I somehow got walled at the mid level final boss because I didn't build defense. I even have 2 polarizers bred and I was still just dying to the AoE.
There is a remastered flute tune from DQM locked in the DLC dungeons, otherwise music had a few throwbacks that were nice. The main theme seems like it's ripped from DQ11 and I hate that.

Use this site, sort by Parent Talents, and use that to power up your mons. If you want to stay spoiler free then don't spoil breeding and just look up talents.

Talking about the thief being obnoxious. Hated this in XI also, where you get robbed and then are forced to help them.
I've been playing since 1 came with Nintendo Power and still have no nostalgia for the music.

I didn't have any difficulty problems really but I've gotten several A/S before reaching upper echelon

Here's a pity bump because some moron in a Morrowind thread is sad that his thread is dead. You're welcome.

I didn't progress after the big plot part. Is it worth finishing the game when you've unlocked uberkilling machine?

probably if you've made it that far already. Endgame is just about breeding boss monsters and doing Joe's Gym DLC so you could also stop if you're happy with uberkilling machine.

Well I'm done with it at 28 hours.
    Joker 3 pro: 226 hours.
That pretty much encapsulates my feelings.

It feels like the game has soul and there were a lot of improvements made on the systems. I gotta be real though even for a spin-off franchise the graphics sucked too much. It pulled me out of the experience and was just overall way below my expectations for this series. I was forgiving of joker because it was on a DS but DQM3 was just fricking blah.

I don't have a problem with the graphics. The problem is there are a lot of cramped areas and clutter. Visible encounters really hurt it here because you never stop to look around, you have to run past everything.
Story is the worst aspect. I would advise skipping scenes entirely for anyone playing.
Gameplay is missing so much from joker 3. I was going to say it feels like half a game but then my hours are more like 1/8th.
Balance is moronic. Harder to make monsters have minimal advantage over the easiest if they aren't outright worse.

Windwaker. I have DQM3 and they really did a bad job with optimization. Big open areas with too many effects causing slowdown. The models can look pretty good but in motion the whole thing is kinda Blah about half the time?
