Dragon's Dogma 2 "only 9 vocations" status: DEBOONKED

That's not a duospear like the MS uses, and it's quite a bit larger as well. MS is also confirmed as being a player only vocation. That's a two handed spear/pike/halberd style vocation that hasn't been officially announced yet.

warrior uses both hammers and greatswords yet is one vocation.

they said they want to focus on one weapon per vocation this time, also the hammer moveset is close enough to gs
but this lance from OP pic looks like a traditionnal piercing lance, it would look to different from a twinblade moveset

DEmo footage sent to youtubers, you can see spears in the camp and in the main trailer when a cart stops before the guards and the homie.

Sadly there is no footage of the spear being used, some people played the demo and wnated to aggro the guard with a spear but they lost sight of him.
Unless you want the IGN video.

we haven't see the large spear weapon in the OP image in use, thus "hasn't been officially announced yet".

It was spotted on Guards/NPCs (including a storyline NPC, cant remember her name). In Dragon's Dogma Guards & npcs used the same vocations players/pawns could use, so the chances of this being a specific weapon/moveset to just guards/NPCs is very low.

I could have sworn some guards in gran soren could aggro you when you are fleeing the castle after killing Grigori had spears with very very basic NPC movesets. That being said, they didn't sheath them like in this screenshot and so far when it comes to NPCs we have seen them exclusively fight with playable weapons and proper movesets from the little bits of footage we have of NPCs fighting in DD2. I want to believe in my heart of hearts that there are more vocations to discover than what has been shown. Personally, I just want confirmation that there is more than 9 and nothing more so I can discover them naturally in gameplay.

You're wrong. They only ever had sword and shield (like fighter).

I tried looking into it and I think you're right. On another note, the spear sheaths in a different direction from warrior weapons as well. Will have to wait and see if we can get footage of a mystic spearhand with their weapon sheathed yo really get the neurons going but since we have multiple spear models it might be true.

warrior uses both hammers and greatswords yet is one vocation.

      >Warrior uses greatswords and hammers!
      >Fighter uses swords and maces!
Yeah, and they have the exact same controls. Nothing changes besides the damage type being blunt instead of slashing. In fact, I wonder if the reason they got rid of Magick Knight is that the base Fighter vocation will get to use magic-infused equipment later on and fill the role of Magick Knight that way. The vocation determines the type of equipment used, so having two shield-based one-handed classes would be redundant. This would also explain the absence of Strider/Ranger/Assassin as redundant, as the fighting styles are already covered by basic vocations.
      >But Magick Knight could also use a staff!
That's covered by Mage now. They may have left the magical shield-based shenanigans to the vocation that uses a shield, and given the actual enchantments to the vocation based on buffing their allies. This would go a long way toward making those otherwise "basic" vocations not feel outclassed by later ones.

        >This would go a long way toward making those otherwise "basic" vocations not feel outclassed by later ones.
        They're supposed to feel outclassed
        Strider was just an accident

          Anonymous

          >Strider was just an accident
You can say that again. That's why they got rid of it and reworked all the basic vocations. In fact, I'll bet the reason Magick Knight got replaced by Mystic Spearhand is in the fighting style. Namely the sword and staff style. A single polearm that can be split into a sword and staff. That's what the new vocation represents.

Could you imagine if they introduced spears but they were exclusively an NPC weapon type that the player can't use? Would that be fricked up or what?

NPCs operating on different rules and gameplay mechanics from the PCs? Never been done before.

        Anonymous

        >Never been done before.
If we’re talking about the DD series then yes, that’s true. All of the human NPCs in DD1 use weapons the PC and Pawns can use.

        Anonymous

Human enemies, guards & NPCs in DD all used the same vocations as the player/pawns in DD1, so it's an odds-on assumption to assume DD2 will operate under the same rules.

Creating a unique vocation or moveset to only use it for guards/NPCs would be a waste of development resources. It's still a possibility but basic rational thinking should tell you it's much more likely there's just a spear vocation that hasn't been revealed yet and this guard is using it.

What’s even new in DD2? I watched the IGN gameplay video and it was insanely disappointing to see more of the same after 12 years. Same vocations, same gameplay mechanics (pawns buff your weapon with elemental affinities), same bosses (reused cyclops), same exact inventory screen, same throwing barrels animations, same fricking combat AND victory music, same everything. I know it’s a sequel, but I was expecting a lot more newness, not reused animations, bosses, vocations, and audio. This feels like another expansion pack, which after over a decade feels like a joke.

Are there any good mods for DD? I played the game once, and honestly I found it quite mediocre, boring even, but on paper it sounds like exactly the kind of game I would love. Is there anything that would spice the game up? Maybe make the world more interesting to explore, make loot interesting or increase enemy variety, or something?

      Anonymous

Warrior weapons sheath with the tip pointing towards the left on the Warrior's back. The spears we've seen on the guards in both nations have the tip pointing to the right like in the screenshot. Meleena's spear also points to the right on her back.

If it's a reskin at all, it would be a reskin of Duospear, since we haven't seen how they sheath on player's back yet. But without a doubt these are not just warrior weapons in disguise.

        Anonymous

Sorry Menella* not Meleena. It's the same deal however, even at an angle you can see that her spear is sheathing just like the town guards on her back. Not saying this means a 2nd spear vocation is confirmed just yet, but it's something to think about while we wait for those reveals from IGN later this month.
