Even in DD1 the JP voices were better.
    Frick, they're never not better.

    Some may say:
    >but muh nostalgic anime I saw dub first had great EN VA
I watched that, with no nostalgia, and the JP dub was better.

in the latest showcase it kinda sounded like their voices weren't actually coming from the game but were added on top of gameplay
or at least i hope thats the case and at least a part of why they sound so weird

Yeah, there was one part where elvish was obviously being spoken by a Nip and then another where it was a western actor. The Nip elves sounded pretty bad, like
      >This is how westerners sound when they talk lmao

Dragon's Dogma 1 also had some heavy hitter seiyuus, but english was still far superior because the use of accents and the way different characters talked depending on their upbringing. In japanese it's all the same and Mercedes, who is a noble from a foreign territory would speak the same as some pleb farmer born and bred in Gransys. I'm not a fan of how pawns sound at the moment but I don't think this is a game I'll play in japanese.

      Plus, David Lodge is back.

The story npcs sounds pretty good, it just the pawns that sound terrible. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they sources the story and pawn actors from completely different places.
Might replace the pawn's voices with Japanese and keep the rest in English.

Yeah, it sounded like the voices weren't mixed or implemented yet and they just played the studio audio over the video. It was really weird and off-putting. Hope they fix it by release.

You can distinguish between noble and plebian Japanese?

Yeah, it's oddly similar to the differences between nobility and commoners in England.

Yeah, but mostly because of the intonation if anything. In JP dragon's dogma everyone sounded really samey and proper towards the arisen.

I don't usually play medieval fantasy games on JP because I feel like it doesn't fit, but after hearing the EN stuff I more than made up my mind.

I will keep the game in ENG solely because I am fairly certain Y'shtola's VA is a Pawn voice

      >Not our fault
      Umm, it really was.

'Japan invaded China in July 1937, starting the Second Sino-Japanese War. President Roosevelt, who supported the Chinese side, chose not to invoke the Neutrality Acts since the parties had not formally declared war. In so doing, he ensured that China's efforts to defend itself would not be hindered by the legislation: China was dependent on arms imports and only Japan would have been able to take advantage of cash-and-carry. This outraged the isolationists in Congress who claimed that the spirit of the law was being undermined'.
