>Dude let’s make a really challenging boss and make the run up to it complete cancer with mandatory enemies
DS2 does this several times, Who thought this was good game design?

    What PS2 game is this?

That's an insult to the PS2. Dark Souls 2 barely looks better than an N64 game.

How the frick is this even a “good game”? It is a challenge but it is not an enjoyable game. It is a really fun challenge but it is not enjoyable. This was also one of those games where you could find a way to frick it up, even for an expert it was never a fun game. At least Dark Souls is a bit more forgiving than this.

I’m so mad, I would probably have loved fighting this boss if getting to it wasn’t so cancer

I liked how in Dark Souls 1 if you got confident in the route to the boss you could skip enemies and just go fight the boss without risking to lose valuable Estus.
Apparently that's bad game design and there need to be a bunch of chokepoints blocked by enemies so you HAVE to fight every time them to get to the boss. Ohh and eventually enemies stop spawning lol.

It's incredible how they doubled down on that aspect and made it even worse in Scholar of the first Sin. Executioner Chariot is one of the worst runs to a boss now and it's super early.
The first time I saw the stairs leading to the Ancient Dragon I just started laughing with the 20 knights just standing there looking in my direction.
I hate how this became the 'Definitive Edition' of the game when it's worse in every aspect except having a higher playerbase for online play.

    >said mandatory enemies are faux-invader npc chimps who can't help themselves but run up to your face and spam the same attacks over and over
    >merely spamming bolts / dark orbs pushes them back to some hole or outright kills them
you have to be really underleveled or too much of a scrub to be unable to fight thenm, wait until you find the real cancer that is Maldron, that butthole

It’s not that I constantly die, its that they all have high amounts of hp and are mandatory to kill every time you die to darklurker

only the last one of the 3 abyss rooms you get through.
I like the one at Drangleic because it seems to be the shortest, also the only threat there is Havel. you can get through all the others pretty quick.
and then, after Darklurker rapes you 7 times, they stop spawning and you can simply run up to the hole and jump in

A lot of DS2 just feels like someone going all in on minor aspects of DS without actually understanding why they existed. Like, they saw that weapons break super slowly and cranked that up to 11, but then it was just a shit mechanic so you get a free repair every bonfire. When the only point of durability was probably just to have a long-term reminder nudging people to go see a blacksmith every once in a while (where they'll also upgrade their shit).

a lot of ds2 equipment, like rings, break very easily. and there's way more ways to break an item than in ds1. several enemies are purposedly made to do that.

      >summon Vengarl, the archer and that healer
      >learn the route so you can head to the bridge on a straight line
      >gank the shit out of the first cat
      >sit back and let your bros finish off the second
scrubs die in this place because they fight too many reindeers, so your bros lose too much HP

why stop at summoning? go unarmed too

having NPCs play the game for you =/= using weapons

are you honestly going to tell me with a straight face over how Blue Smelter, 2cat and gank squad's areas aren't meant for co-op?
beating them solo is a feat of skill alright, but definitely not the intended design. all 3 areas start with a big lobby room and a few standard NPC signs

This is probably the worst area in a Soulsborne game. You can at least see when the ememy is coming in other areas like with Dark Lurker. Frigid Outskirts is just not worth the investment to get to arguably one of the most boring boss fights.

NOOOOOOOO THE DLC IS SO GOOD FRICK YOU DS2 HATER NOOOOOOOOOOOO
*ignores how the DLC zones are some of the worst in the game and Alonne and Fuke Knight are like mid tier bosses by DS3 standards*

I didn’t do any of the co-op areas in the previous DLCs and I don’t plan on doing this one, why the frick would you even suffer through them when they’re designed for co-op?

Unironically my favourite boss of all Souls games

I do have some fond memories of the boss runs in DS2.
    >invade in the Undead Crypt near Velstadt boss door
    >camouflage myself close to the bell
    >wait for the host + friends to kill the bell hollow and push toward the boss door
    >as soon as they start fighting the normal enemies, start smacking the bell like a madman
    >watch as the poor saps get surrounded and murdered
    or my favorite
    >invade in Dragon Shrine
    >avoid the host at all costs. instead, run around and break as many eggs as possible
    >rush to the final rope bridge before the host gets there
    >stand in the middle of the bridge with open arms, completely blocking the way forward
    >host charges forward
    >dragon swoops down and destroys the bridge, killing us both
I'll give points to DS2 for those unique invasion encounters.

Thinking about it I don't think I had a single fog gate run death in DS3. Game's too easy.

Not really. Rolling is too strong in 3, you don't even need to git gud to trivialise all those bosses.

Yeah it sucks im glad I didn’t die too many times and run out of effigies though. If you do just use a bonfire ascetic in the forest of fallen giants to get 5 effigies from that chest.

What is this feeling of deja vu with this thread? I only recently started playing DS games and joining threads relating to the series but all the posts feel like I've read them all before.
