Did boomers really think that was so innovative they shit themselves over it?

>so innovative
name another 3 games, same or older year, same genre
Duke Nukem 3D, Daggerfall, Deus Ex, DOOM II
None of those are like Serious Sam, dumb zoomer
All of these earlier mentioned game are from the same genre, are you having a stroke or something ?
These are in the same genre as much as mario kart and Gran Truismo are in the same genre
Gaming was totally different back then. Hindsight.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>*underwhelming explosion*
play the pirated version
it only spawns 1
boomers were not playing video games in 2001
Okay gen Xer
i'm not a gen xer, i'm just not stupid enough to call a game from 2001 for boomers. it was gen x and millennials.
it also came from a literal who croatian developer while daikatana shitting the bed was still fresh
That's the only boomer shooter I don't really get
The gameplay gets really tiresome after a few hours
Secret system is good though
Atmosphere in the first encounter is great and the secrets can be neat. Other than that I agree
>one of the few shooters where there's an enemy type that fulfills multiple roles
>weapon selection is good overall, cannonball is super unique
>fun to find secrets, cryptic, bit of parkour, hard to find, etc.
>architecture and level design that are nothing like any shooter at that time, noted for not having crates at all in TFE
>sets the tone for trolling the player with enemy spawns if you pick up 1hp pills, but is naturally high risk for very low reward scenarios littered throughout the game
>memorable moments like the fog settling in and spawning in kleers one by one, the bridge filled with werebulls & kleers and the hallway filled with kleers
simple and big brained, every other shooter tries to be fancy with movement but fail to understand enemy & level design at all
It's the opposite for me.
Every other boomer shooter seems very basic and dumbed down compared to Serious Sam.
It's fun
It had one of the most advanced in-house engines of its time. It barely felt like eurojank.
Serious sam was never innovative.
It was fun though.
As far as FPSs goes it separated itself from the likes of Doom, Duke or Quake. Being utterly overwhelmed with enemies from all sides can be fun. Being able to dodge kleers jumping from behind just by listening to their audio cues is exhilarating. The game is at its best when you're not just running backwards.
>Did boomers really think that was so innovative they shit themselves over it?
there has been nothing 'innovative' for 20 years. you are standing on the shoulders of
giants everytime you play something today so be grateful to your elders for that. In fact your generation can't even act as custodians because integrated systems especially AI have regressed in quality. you're a generation of useless shit c**ts who can't create anything of value.
>you're a generation of useless shit c**ts who can't create anything of value.
Millennials?
older millenials at least gave us No Mans Sky and LA Noir two I can think of off the top of my head that can be said to be innovative.
more like
>cool a tiny hallway with +10hp in it
>there are now 20 kleers behind you
>+10 hp
This is the most unrealistic part of the post.
ok fine, +1hp.
Now you're serious.
>Find secret ammo stash
>Now there are biomechs everywhere
I think SS would be better if they leaned more on being an FPS version of a twinstick shooter. More arcade style level design rather than those massive hallways. Feels like they're trying to appeal to more Doom style exploration rather than just being a full on horde management shooter. You could probably make a mod for SS based on Smash TV and it'd be peak SS.
>Serious TV
Just a big room, enemies come down on you from all sides, collect money/powerups as random drops, round end, buy new weapon or upgrade, move to the next room.
How's the last game nowadays? I heard that it was bad on release
I beat SS4 two days ago and it was my favorite out of all the games even though it is so poorly optimized.
The only part I didn't like was I horded my gadgets for harder encounters and then the game took them all away, but now I know for when I replay it to just blow them however I want.
Just started Siberian mayhem too seems pretty great so far
It's probably the only good boomer shooter other than Quake.
Do games have to be innovative to be fun or good? I'd honestly much rather just have more games that are exactly what I like without them trying to innovate it, aka completely ruin it. Like Splinter Cell for example.
Sometimes it's fun to just kill a lot of things. I think Serious Sam is better than L4D.
>It's probably the only good boomer shooter other than Quake.
absolutely vile opinion. ss does exactly 1 thing good. a billion enemies in an absurdly huge arena. it fails on every quality a good classic fps should have. movement feels like shit, level design is lazy at best and nonexistent at worst, and the attempts at humor are pathetic. none of the guns even feel good to use, which should be an arrestable offense when making a boomer shooter.
here's your (You) for trying too hard to fit in as your average Gankeredditor
didnt ask
>level design is lazy at best and nonexistent at worst
Bullshit. First and especially Second Encounter have pretty good level design
>ss does exactly 1 thing good. a billion enemies in an absurdly huge arena.
First of all, that's the only thing it needs to do well for it to be enjoyable. And luckily for me, I disagree with all the negatives you listed, which is why I rate the game pretty highly.
In fact, you've basically just described Duke Nukem 3D, which you probably rate pretty highly because Ganker told you to.
Duke Nukem levels are still the best in the industry. I'd agree Sam have better enemy roster
t. another anon, love both Duk and Sam
duke3d isnt even in my top 5.
also the fact you think duke3d has bad level design proves youre delusional.
>level design is lazy at best and nonexistent at worst
Serious Sam's level design is enemy placement. The fact that you don't understand this shows that you don't know the game.
A square room with a wave of kleers with biomechs in the background is totally different from a square room with a wave of kamikazes with reptloids in the background.
this thread made me boot up the first game gonna play through it now cya
If you don't play on Serious you are a homosexual
Nah, Serious diff throws ammo management out the window with its 2X, best to play Hard on a first pt
I finished both TFE and TSE on Serious during my first playthrough lmao. You just need to get good at circle strafing
hes saying serious is easier because of more ammo and hes right. mental shouldve had the serious enemy numbers on top of the invisibility
Game cover box before ai exist
Remove witchbride and BFE is suddenly a better game
Glad ss4 fixed that c**t
Yes, I recently played 4 to scratch that itch
name one more game that does this
EDF
Coincidentally that's who Sam works for too
This game came out the same year the towers fell, 3 years before this site existed, and 11 years before you were born.
If you weren't there you figuratively, literally unironically cannot understand.
Doom already achieved the peak of Serious Sam
It was called Nuts.wad
