Given how silly some of the dish names have been, and considering that the sandwiches probably won't be without silly names too, I wouldn't be surprised there is a later game recipe you can get from sandwich guy called this.

Yeah, honestly can't blame them. This is probably just something super stupid simple like wurmple (honestly they should of made the forms connected, would of been really cool to have Dunsparce and Tandemaus be connected), but eh. I kinda hope it's this or something kinda like it. I was the one hands-onning the info we were getting on the spot to no avail with Squishy, oh well, I'll use Squishy as two-segment the rest of my story run, I like two-segment too. It would really weird to have that be a version difference of all things but it’s been done before with stuff like Lycanroc’s forms and the Gym Leaders and IoA Rivals being version exclusives for some reason.

Yeah, it feels like it has the potential to be a version exclusivity thing, to boot. Given it's a bit of a thematic thing. Few and Long for Violet and Many and Short for Scarlet. Feels like one of those "if you think about it, it just works" things, but without any real confirmation till we got Violet chads confirming it.

I believe there was a misunderstanding with what I said. I mean to say more that I think it makes sense if one form was rare in Violet, and the other was rare in Scarlet, and same with Dundunsparce. But it's just reaching out since we're running out of means to test what the frick is up with Maushold and Dundunsparce. Even as anonymaushold, that's what I think makes sense, but obviously, not like there's any real easy way to know. Can't we just see where the evolution code (UNKNOWN_Whatever the frick it was) lines up, or is that more of a post-launch thing?

I'm pretty sure that this isn't possible. If they were different forms, then it would be possible, or if they were fully exclusive then it would be possible. But I don't think that they can specify a "condition" like that in what is essentially a single flag.

That wouldn't be very hard to set as a flag, seeing as all you'd really need is 1-2 lines specifying "If X then Y" twice to determine version odds.

they are different forms. Dudunsparce-0 and -1, Maushold-0 and 1. it's feasible for them to have different encounter rates in the different games. they have done that before with certain forms I believe.

They mean the ratios are skewed for each version. Like how Beedrill and Butterfree have their lines' ratios swapped depending on what game they're in without actually being exclusive.

like, if 3 segment is more common in violet, but I catch a dunsparce in scarlet and give it to a violet player and he evolves it, is it more likely to be 3 segment or is it still very likely to be 2 segment?

The best way to test the "it's just random" theory is to catch a bunch and keep evolving them until one turns into a 3 segs one. I wouldn't worry about trying to fulfill any specific conditions too much, unless maybe trying to evolve it in the desert.
Then reload, and evolve just that one again in different conditions and see if it still evolves into a 3 segs, or not. If it does, then it's confirmed that it's just some random value that gets assigned into the pokemon when it's generated.
If a bunch of anons in this thread that have completed the storyline start doing that, it shouldn't be too long until one gets a 3 seg one if it's ramdom. Unless it's really really rare, or a violet exclusive thing.

Just tested this and didn´t work, tried on a male and a female Dunsparce (never used them in battle), gave them HP vitamins to the max and then leveled them with candys, they both evolved to 2 segment Dudunsparce.
To save you some time posting; If it's an existing evolution method it's not the fricking answer. We have the code for those already and we wouldn't be having this search in the first place.
Anon... the code mentions the evolution method (and we already know how to evolve it) but not what triggers one form or the other, which is what we are trying to find.

The evolution method determines the form. That's why both forms have their own evolution code, like every other fricking form-based evolution in the entire franchise. We're looking for the functional value that the line "UNKNOWN" in its evolution flag has since we already figured out what the second line refers to since it uses Hyper Drill's index number but doesn't have the standard WAZA flag for leveling up while knowing a move. Are you up to speed or going to spout more bullshit?
i see, i'll look around violet and see what i come up with, but it will take a little time since i'm a little puritan b***h who doesn't move saves between versions.

If you're playing Pokemon Violet, try evolving Tandemaus and Dunsparce, we need to prove definitively if Family of Three Maushold and Three Segment Dudunsparce are more common in Violet than Scarlet
Just evolved to tandas and got one family of 3 and another of 4. Checked stats and met the 3 form at west province area two and met the 4 form at east province area one.

Let's assume that the evolution rates are skewed in favor of Violet.
Gamefreak is usually obsessed with symmetric design between versions, so you'd think each version would get 1 of the 2 random rate evolution skewed in their favor.
Continuing with this assumption, this means that 1 of the 2 random rates is skewed towards Scarlet, and yet the rate seems to be abysmal even when skewed. Why would Gamefreak bother to skew the rates if the rates are that low even after?
So I'm betting its unrelated to your version.
I found a bug when testing in which, whenever it showed my dunsparce leveling from 31 to 32 from the picnic, it wouldn’t actually level up even though it clearly showed it doing so in the exp bar animation thing.
When I checked again, it was still 31, almost 32. Gaining exp again in any way, even from another picnic, works and then it levels up properly and learns the move + evolves. Really weird glitch. This happened several times during my testing some stuff.
The thing is that mine did level to 32, I guess it didn't learn the move because a cutscene happened right after the battle and I have the option to learn the moves during one deactivated (I think it was during Iono's test, I could be wrong)

Meant using a raid to satisfy the evo requirement. Seemed doubtful since you don’t gain XP in raids and the requirement for evolution was to level up in multiplayer

I evolved my dunsparce with maximum friendship and maximum affection yesterday and only got 2 segments. While I can't exactly confirm that friendship was at maximum, I think I can safely assume so given that I had won lots of battles with him, had soothe bell on, and also got a ton of steps in running around the map.

There's not much we can do. OP pic couldn't have done anything special in that specific spot at that level. He had one and it evolved. All we can do is load up on a party of Dunsparce and keep evolving until we get it.

I believe there was a misunderstanding with what I said. I mean to say more that I think it makes sense if one form was rare in Violet, and the other was rare in Scarlet, and same with Dundunsparce. But it's just reaching out since we're running out of means to test what the frick is up with Maushold and Dundunsparce. Even as anonymaushold, that's what I think makes sense, but obviously, not like there's any real easy way to know. Can't we just see where the evolution code (UNKNOWN_Whatever the frick it was) lines up, or is that more of a post-launch thing?
I'm pretty sure that this isn't possible. If they were different forms, then it would be possible, or if they were fully exclusive then it would be possible. But I don't think that they can specify a "condition" like that in what is essentially a single flag.
That wouldn't be very hard to set as a flag, seeing as all you'd really need is 1-2 lines specifying "If X then Y" twice to determine version odds.
they are different forms. Dudunsparce-0 and -1, Maushold-0 and 1. it's feasible for them to have different encounter rates in the different games. they have done that before with certain forms I believe.
They mean the ratios are skewed for each version. Like how Beedrill and Butterfree have their lines' ratios swapped depending on what game they're in without actually being exclusive.

they all have the same stats and abilities but I feel like there could be something else different we're missing in one or both cases. purely cosmetic forms aren't that common, last gen it was only Sinistea family and Alcremie. and I guess Zarude. unless I'm forgetting one. and aren't there several other cosmetic forms this gen? like the dragon-type fish.
The dragon type fish isn't cosmetic, which color it is changes which stat Order Up boosts

Anon who got 3 was able to replicate the evolution on that mon but none other. Also Khu seems to confirm it's determined upon catching or earlier.

The best way to test the "it's just random" theory is to catch a bunch and keep evolving them until one turns into a 3 segs one. I wouldn't worry about trying to fulfill any specific conditions too much, unless maybe trying to evolve it in the desert.
Then reload, and evolve just that one again in different conditions and see if it still evolves into a 3 segs, or not. If it does, then it's confirmed that it's just some random value that gets assigned into the pokemon when it's generated.
If a bunch of anons in this thread that have completed the storyline start doing that, it shouldn't be too long until one gets a 3 seg one if it's ramdom. Unless it's really really rare, or a violet exclusive thing.

I have one. It knew the following moves roost may have been rollout at the time dont remember when I changed it. It was level 31 at the time of evolution. It evolved in that grassy area near the desert that has lv 50 gold duck scyther and the goldfish dragon. It was not in battle during the battle. Held item was hard stone. It was lv 19 when I caught it think it was still day time when it evod

both seem easy to test hex edit in some vitamins and faint it a few times to make sure it isnt max friendship
Just tested this and didn´t work, tried on a male and a female Dunsparce (never used them in battle), gave them HP vitamins to the max and then leveled them with candys, they both evolved to 2 segment Dudunsparce.
Maybe it needs high friendship before it evolves?

To save you some time posting; If it's an existing evolution method it's not the fricking answer. We have the code for those already and we wouldn't be having this search in the first place.

The evolution method determines the form. That's why both forms have their own evolution code, like every other fricking form-based evolution in the entire franchise. We're looking for the functional value that the line "UNKNOWN" in its evolution flag has since we already figured out what the second line refers to since it uses Hyper Drill's index number but doesn't have the standard WAZA flag for leveling up while knowing a move. Are you up to speed or going to spout more bullshit?

Just evolved to tandas and got one family of 3 and another of 4. Checked stats and met the 3 form at west province area two and met the 4 form at east province area one.
Any anons have a west side family of 4 that disproves the area mattering?

Let's assume that the evolution rates are skewed in favor of Violet.
Gamefreak is usually obsessed with symmetric design between versions, so you'd think each version would get 1 of the 2 random rate evolution skewed in their favor.
Continuing with this assumption, this means that 1 of the 2 random rates is skewed towards Scarlet, and yet the rate seems to be abysmal even when skewed. Why would Gamefreak bother to skew the rates if the rates are that low even after?
So I'm betting its unrelated to your version.
They did it in previous games, where some Pokemon are exceedingly rare in one version but not in the other.

I found a bug when testing in which, whenever it showed my dunsparce leveling from 31 to 32 from the picnic, it wouldn’t actually level up even though it clearly showed it doing so in the exp bar animation thing.
When I checked again, it was still 31, almost 32. Gaining exp again in any way, even from another picnic, works and then it levels up properly and learns the move + evolves. Really weird glitch. This happened several times during my testing some stuff.

The thing is that mine did level to 32, I guess it didn't learn the move because a cutscene happened right after the battle and I have the option to learn the moves during one deactivated (I think it was during Iono's test, I could be wrong)

They aren't the same. Dunsparce needs to know Hyper Drill + something else to become a 3 segment, without that something else it becomes a 2.

It's likely they'll be related in some way but they could be entirely different.
Also a thought that just came to mind: since the parameter probably refers to Hyper Drill, I wonder if it's to do with the *way* you learn the move.

I evolved my dunsparce with maximum friendship and maximum affection yesterday and only got 2 segments. While I can't exactly confirm that friendship was at maximum, I think I can safely assume so given that I had won lots of battles with him, had soothe bell on, and also got a ton of steps in running around the map.
