I'm pretty sure OP is talking about the original GBC box art design of Shantae that is in a different artstyle. After the first game Shantae's artstyle stayed pretty well consistent from game to game. I don't think Shantae fans make the distinction the same way Sonic fans do though, it's all just Shantae.
