>Graceful in defeat
I cant believe people thought the Lion was evil.
I think ive seen a fanart like this somewhere...
Yep its the Thorden / Donatto sandwich I heard so much about
The end, mayhap some more side material will be published, maybe Kui will dive into BG3 / DOS if she hasnt played them.
Well have to see if her next project is about the goat girls or something else entirely like a rom com or space exploration.
But DM is a standout in the genre, Laios is peak masculinity and while some arcs are weak it never really dives into mediocrity.
Now go and eat something that is good for you.
it's straight the best /tg/ manga out there bar none
It's been an amazing ride from start to finish. Practically a masterclass put on by Kui in some respects. I'm glad I was here for (most of) it.
Thanks to Kui for the amazing manga, and thanks A LOT to EHS for an amazing translation as well.
Seriously, I've picked up the official (french) release, and it's fine, but still a level below the scantrad's.
Dunno exacly why, but Senshi looks so at peace in those pages, even beyond the lack of helmet. It's a testament to how consistently good the art is, that even background faces can serve as a conclusion to a character's arc.
>thanks A LOT to EHS for an amazing translation as well.
Yeah, the translation, note, etc. were great
I think Kui was already playing BG3 before the manga was finished.
Thankfully she managed to wrap it up before it completely claimed her soul.
Frick, I don't even know what to say, this is hands down the best manga I've ever read, and it ended on a downright beautiful note.
Remember the first couple chapters and how they were translated by some ESL guy and riddled with grammatical errors? Look at us now.
If the EHS guys are here, a heartfelt thanks for your hard and excellent work in delivering one of the best manga ever to us, you guys rock.
>supplemental books
It's not over yet! Man I hope the anime doesn't suck.
No kang, you are not supposed to play in the fields. That's literally playing with food.
I literally cannot get over the design of the wolf biting the lion on his mantle. It's such a good design that's culturally significant to those who know without being overbearing
Following up on this anon for those that might not understand. A lion is viewed as a solitary hunter, a wolf needs a pack to survive. So only through friendship and cooperation can a wolf defeat a lion. Yes lions also hunt in groups, but that's the general interpretation.
WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS
ARISEN. I'm pretty hyped for dragon's dogma 2
So we move from DBZ characters to Dungeon Meshi ones?
BORN
INTO A PACK
lioness' hunt in groups, not lions that have established themselves as the alpha/leader
I just realize the kid is possibly crossbreed between orcs and the doggo people
I think that kid supposed to be part badger.
Orcs have stripes as kids
I love those little worldbuilding details. I'm going to miss this manga.
>What shall we have today?
What a good fricking line to end on
HOLY KINO
Remember kids, eating meals at regular intervals will help you ward off some of the negative effects of your depression.
It ain't gonna cure you if it's actually genetic, but you will stop hurting yourself in one specific way at least.
>the king proceeds to devour the monster
Came to express my gratitude to the author, all the translators, and to /tg/ for sharing this story with everyone for so long. I'll see if I can sneak in a long hearty description of a banquet next time I DM.
God damnit i cant.
What an amazing journey and sweet ending.
Thanks Kui and thanks /tg for sharing it all these years.
Wonderful. AND THERE'S STILL DESSERT TO COME.
What a series. Happy to have been hear for it, sad to see it go.
The return of the king. I kneel.
truly nothing is better than a happy ending
Honestly, one of the most palatable manga I've ever read. Just plain good from start to finish.
Have now reread this chapter 3x and this still just leaves me with a big happy smile on my face. Thank you Kui, and thank you /tg/.
So what will you all be having to eat tonight to celebrate? Weekend and everything, time to make something more elaborate then usual. Or just going to go simple? I'm going to make something I can really savor and take my time with.
White chicken chili for me, served to some friends coming over. One of them said they are bringing cornbread, and another is on the hook for a dessert but I don't know what ti is yet.
Awesome. I've got a curry dish I'm pretty proud of, but had been considering chili and a cream corn bread too. What I really wish is that I could arrange a truly large old classic "tell your friends to tell their friends" D&D/LAN party potluck tonight but the timing probably is unluckily not going to work out, so we'll have a small tighter crew. Will be comfy though.
Weather is perfect though here as well. Cool enough that a fireplace fire should be ok to fire up. Kind of feels fitting to get this on the edge of summer and fall, crisp and cool with the promise of endings, but still green and lush out. Hope your chow is awesome anon.
LAIUS NO, DON'T DEVOUR THAT CHILD
But, man, Meshi threads were one of the very few reasons for me to visit /tg/ at this point. It's a bit bittersweet to see it end. It was fun while it lasted.
I kneel.
I can't believe the series is over. I've been reading it for so long and now it's just... Done.
Hot damn.
It was fantastic reading this with everyone. See you all around next time, whether that be when Kui releases the final supplemental book, when the anime starts airing, or when she starts a whole new series. Whatever she makes after Meshi, I have no doubt it'll be fantastic.
As someone who absolutely adored Falin's full chimera form though, I am a little sad that she only kept a couple small chimera traits. Like just 10% more chimera would've been perfect. Falin is still great though, love her
>I can't believe the series is over. I've been reading it for so long and now it's just... Done.
I know that feel, I felt it when Hellsing finished, I felt it again when Fullmetal alchemist finished and I felt it when I finished watching Legend of the galactic heroes.
It's a bittersweet feeling, but you will be glad later for having been there for the trip.
>I can't believe the series is over. I've been reading it for so long and now it's just... Done.
I'll take this feel over garbage like capeshit that never ever ends and is universally crap
>I'll take this feel over garbage like capeshit that never ever ends and is universally crap
Absolutely. I will never understand the people who defend marvel/DC endlessly rebooting and timeslipping their characters just to keep having them paler and paler imitations of their old classic stories. Just running in place trying to simultaneously keep everything the same but also make it totally different, satisfying no one.
An ending is what makes a story *matter*. If none of it was building up to anything, if there is no payoff, its all just so much noise. Its why a good show gets ruined by a bad ending (many such examples), because if this is what you were building up to al that time then it was all building up to shit. Or a weak show with an amazing ending being worth slogging through the bad parts.
But if it just keeps going and stretches itself thinner and thinner to fill time... i understand why a corporation sees that as desirable. They want to sell more product, advertise for more merch, extend that IP. But what saner consumer wants that instead of a quality product?
I've given up on capeshit years ago and haven't missed it for a second.
God fricking damn this was such a good manga. One of the best ever. Hats off to Kui.
>Was I a good manga?
>No.
>You were the best.
Stuck the landing, you crazy mangaka.
I seem to recall some kind of indication or rumor that Kui might have browsed /tg/ at some point.
On the off chance she might see this: CONGRATULATIONS RYOKO-SAN, GOOD JOB
FANTASTIC WORK!
It's beautiful
I'm not even meming or anything.
Thank you op, I came to this quite late but I really enjoyed it. I'm going to go back to the start now!
I might try doing some 2000AD's again, if there's any interest in that.
he can probably get his subject to capture some of the low/middle tier ones for him to have in some kind of zoo going by that monter shroom
but rip my guy, will never see a dragon or leviathan again
having monsters(animals) in a zoo be in perpetual state of fear and stress would not end well. And laios would not stand for such mistreatment of monsters
yeah, probably right, sucks for him
>gets a for life ward against monsters effects that any kingdom would love, as a curse
lmao poor guy
I love that you can clearly tell laios himself drew the first panel because the monsters are all on-model but his own portrait looks like the stick figure he drew in the living painting
damn not only he can't see another monster again, but he also can't visit another kingdom or travel for diplomatic reasons, otherwise the kingdom would get fricked
useless the curse makes the monsters recognize that land as laios "territory" and they don't go in regardless
glued to that throne until death
>(You)'s are the special privilege of the troll. In order to get (You)'s, we need to keep bating.
So there's a tangible difference between monsters and regular wildlife.
What exactly is the limit supposed to be? Monsters are magical?
In a fantasy wold such as this one, I'd have expected magic/mana to be present in some quantity in all living creatures.
>The faces on Kabru and Marcille
kek
Each type of monsters were first created by the demon. Other animals emerged through evolution.
>So there's a tangible difference between monsters and regular wildlife.
A previous chapter actually had Marcille explain what is the difference.
>when you need to discuss some of the kingdom's policies, but Your Highness is being a little drama queen
It's a good ending.
From the Ganker thread
That’s great.
I feel like that pose is a reference to some Renaissance painting that I just can't place.
Did Kabru got whitewashed on the paintings?
Even Black people don't shade black people in black and white in some older comics. It is too much effort.
That panel implies that he got food poisoning from the mushroom which is probably created to be docile.
All of the big things are resolved but all of the personal relationships are still up in the air.
It has been an honor and a pleasure reading and eating with you folks. I'm going to make curry tonight in celebration of a successful ending to a fantastic series. I don't want to gush but this is one of the good ones and it's been an incredible journey.
What are you going to eat /tg/?
Death of Socrates?
DICK MOVE
>wolf left, bird right
wait where's the horse?
>middle right above his crown
that's a nice detail
Really loving the faux medieval artwork here. Also does this mean Laius's curse being that he can't get the monsters near him anymore?
Pretty much yeah. His dream of living in tandem with monsters is unattainable.
Yep. He'll never get to look at and study all the weird ass monsters that are his passion. Excerpt, apparently the sapient ones. Or maybe that kid just never counted as a monster in the first place.
It's going to be absolutely merry fricking hell when he kicks it and the monsters start creeping in.
Could also end up having it pass on to his kids afterwards as well.
idk, that curse seemed awfully specific to laios. Also the exact terms for the curse were "your greatest desire will never be granted", so if somehow the curse were to be inherited by his offspring's, the effect of the curse would change
>if somehow the curse were to be inherited by his offspring's
>the greatest desire of Laios's newborn babies will never be granted
What does this even mean? They can't get to suck on mother's breasts?
>What does this even mean?
It will be delivered safely and in good health.
>It's going to be absolutely merry fricking hell when he kicks it and the monsters start creeping in.
Nah, Laios isn't the kind of guy who would tell its subject nothing's dangerous with monsters. It'll just be like any other kingdom.
I'd expect him to pass his monster autism knowledge on. Plus I'm sure he'd be real supportive of other people researching monsters since that would be a way to vicariously live out his true desire. There are already different fan research groups for monsters like the dragon or walking mushroom ones.
Orcs and Kobolds being called monsters was just human racism. The bone thing was just random shit.
Unless his corpse also repels monsters.
Interesting take on "The King on the Hill" myth.
>his body is cut into pieces and used as holy ‘monster repellent’ relics.
>his body is cut into piece and fed to the next in line, preserving the curse
Fun, imagine the holy relic of the great king protecting you from monster from beyond the grave
Do parts of his body work? Maybe with less radius? Is the Repel in Pokémon ground down Laios bones?
>Golden Kingdom uses Laios's bones as bargaining chips, since protection from monsters is so sought after
>the cursed bones of the Devourer King ward you from monsters
That's badass.
>Unless his corpse also repels monsters.
G-Guys???
The monster did say his dream would NEVER come true. That could be interpreted to mean that none of his friends or descendants will ever live in harmony with monsters and thus his corpse would have to repel them.
Or even All of Humanity if his bones are spread.
And then there is a race across the entire world to gather all the parts of his body so some duke can become god.
Some kind of Run. That requires brass balls. A Brass Ball Run?
>2nd panel
lel he really hates ruling, also
>monsters
wait, I thought that magic in the atmosphere was too thin for decently sized monsters to survive above ground?
they said that when the demon breached the surface the areas surrounding the dungeon became part of it, presumably that effect didnt dissipate over time.
but wasn't the effect of the dungeon supposed to disappear over time? isn't that why the citizens of the golden kingdom talked about feeling a veil disappearing and being on a time limit?
Hm, you're right but that was the effect of that specific dungeon as Thistle created it to that purpose. Because the dungeon proper had collapsed, there was the fading effect of the dungeon's buffering on their souls. Seems like even a week after though, it hadn't completely lifted.
The dungeon and upper world merged. The mana permeation is now equalized and apparently enough to sustain decently-sized monsters.
No, dragons obviously exist above ground as well. They're just rare is all
Pretty cool that there was a switch to having an art style like medieval tapestries for the epilogue.
Supremely delightful.
HAIL TO THE KING
>Lion made it so the monster-loving need will never see another monster again for as long as he lives and will be stuck to the kingdom until the day he dies
The biggest dick move. It helping Falin come back doesn't make up for this.
Is a really big kingdom, plus traveling was never his passion.
At least he still has the cat it seems.
I don't see any direct hint that cat is there with him. There is evidence for Falin, Marcille and Kabru.
For now. Let's hope in supplementary books we will be shown what's others up to.
Kot would be around to be ordered by Kabru to assassinate any dangerous enemies.
>kingdom is completely surrounded with monsters
>only way t get in or out is to fight them off
>ruled over by a giga-autist obsessed with monsters
this is going to be the greatest collection of monster-hunters the world has ever known, isn't it? very kino if i may say so myself.
indeed.
and all that is going to happen right under laios nose and he won't be able to take part in that mad fun.
it's like living with an eternal itch in your balls.
then again, i don't think laios is like a living barrier for the kingdom, it's more like their animal (monster) instincts tells them it's a REALLY bad idea to go near the kingdom, like what happens with actual wildlife and human settlements.
but i am 100% convinced that any moster that see laios and has a mild intelligent thinking process is going to lose its shit and run away.
>come on kabru just a tiny bit of budget to pay for monster hunters to bring me some monsters to eat
So, /tg/, what’s his tax policy?
My guess is he is gonna implement some sorta toll booth system of "pay for what you use system".
What about the concubines? Did Orc-sister run off with Senshi, creating great scandal?
Lessened tax burden on food producers and food-based businesses leading to thriving agricultural, restauranteur and gourmet product industries which export massively into the surrounding territories. Tax breaks for animal husbandry and monster research and claimable 'bounties' on monsters where the problems caused by them are resolved peacefully rather than through killing them.
Taxes are partly used to provide a daily food ration and food security to the populace as a whole similar to the bread ration in Ancient Rome.
Consider that he also doesn't have to spend as much on military spending, because anyone who tries to start shit with his kingdom gets eaten by dragons without him even having to lift a finger. He probably still has an army, but a much smaller one than would normally be expected of a kingdom that size and its probably largely made of ex-adventurers, which means both less organized but also full of weird and useful skillsets.
King Laios effectively has the setup for less of a standing army and more a bunch of crack teams of fantasy commandos trained on the dungeon. He doesn't send 50 men at arms, he sends 5 guys who get shit done and get out.
>its probably largely made of ex-adventurers, which means both less organized but also full of weird and useful skillsets.
>King Laios effectively has the setup for less of a standing army and more a bunch of crack teams of fantasy commandos trained on the dungeon. He doesn't send 50 men at arms, he sends 5 guys who get shit done and get out.
...This is a Fantasy A-team setup, isn't it?
Yep. A bunch of fantasy A-team squads that range between useful bumblefricks and actually scary hardasses.
I like to imagine that they all report to Chilchak. Somehow he's fallen into this position of somewhere between guild leader, spymaster, and army commander because he's the only member of the king's inner circle with a head for it.
It also occurs to me that, if nothing else, the kingdom will have a standing army of orcs. This gives them something to do, they are loyal, and slowly shifts the cultural context of orcs from being scary outsiders to serving an esteemed position in the kingdom as defenders of the realm. A job that they take seriously, because if anything happens to Laios they might get stuck with a new ruler that hates them.
They must have other races int he army as well, and there will be a bunch of orcs in civilian jobs too, but there will *definitely* be a bunch of orcs in the army.
that's only while he's alive.
If his kingdom is founded on him being there it will immediately turn to shit when he dies
The monster defending the borders thing I think is a holdover from the monsters being bound to defend the golden city overall. That protection may fade with time, but that's not tied to Laios in specific. Just the monster-repelling part.
Though it is true that within a generation there will stop being ex-adventurers trained on the dungeon, so the whole fantasy a-team thing is probably just a weird footnote in history during the chaotic and strange time of the countries origins, I would still expect that in successive generations that the golden kingdom will be a very adventurer-idolizing culture. Its literally their national origin.
Any kingdom ran by Laius is doomed to failure regardless.
Only Marcille and Kabru could save it from collapsing. Chilchuck might be helpful if he stuck around.
I wonder if the Golden Kingdom's monster taming techniques work when the monsters aren't being kept placid by demon magic. Their army might feature some war minotaurs or some such
They didn't have any techniques, the monsters were just docile and unaggressive toward the Golden Landers because Thistle controlled them, for the express purpose of defending the Golden Land.
I assumed the military and guards were dominantly orcs. Peaceful times are all fine and dandy, but a history of warrior-culture is going to lead to a lot of restless young men.
Dragons are not suicidal.
I doubt that monsters would make much trouble for an actual invasion army. Dungeon Meshi went out of it's way to show realistic monsters with reasonable behavior, and most wild animals would try to avoid huge groups of armed people.
Given his "food is the privilege of the living" attitude, he would almost certainly have some Roman style subsidized grain system to prevent even the poorest from starving. He'd have the centralized bureaucracy to run it too: the Golden Kingdom just popped out of the sea. He could (with Marcille and other advisors) just organize it from scratch without centuries old noble houses whining about birthright, privileges et cetera.
>Marcille
Sorry anon but she's going to the gulag
Isn't that her on the right in the third panel of
?
That's the 4th panel, but yea
There was a whole section last chapter with Laios telling the elves where they can stick the gulag and that Marcille was staying with him
Somehow I skipped that chapter. That's a relief I guess.
What the FRICK is New Hampshire's problem?
>dwarves starting shit just because the risen ancestral kingdom is next door to them
Manlets, when will they learn?
EHScans scanlators made the top panel of this page super dark for some reason in comparison to the original raws, which means a lot of detail was lost.
>for some reason
It's inevitable when you level scans to get pure white and blacks, it heightens contrast which tends to make grays darker.
That's what Image -> Adjustments -> Levels is for in Photoshop for example
>finishing the last few pages
>montserrat from my fantasy-playlist starts playing

Damn, Falin got more tiny goodies from her chimera time than I thought.
You can see Flamela checking them out here
when the elves are poking and prodding at her
>tfw just had surgery to remove a portion of my colon removed due to a cancerous tumor
This is sadly relatable. The timing is oddly hilarious...
that shit's rough, my uncle died from complications regarding one of those. Glad you came out alright.
my one regret is that falin wasnt part of the party for longer. Aside from the frist and last chapter on the whole manga she has only a few pages of interactions with the group.
>frog outfits
They kept them lol.
Very very VERY cute fangs.
Shuro hug the damn girl, you fricking simp weeaboo.
He’s a westaboo, really.
Hot scantily clad elves molesting a vulnerable young woman
Aw man, look at Sureau's expression. He's feeling things.
Precious Muffin status : confirmed.
Cute kot.
My heart will be forever warmed by Senshi in this series.
>they kept fricking frog outfits
god bless you Kui. I'm going to be finding little easter eggs and continuity for ages. The attention to detail is another wonderful part of this series. Unlike most it really rewards paying close attention.
>but wasn't the effect of the dungeon supposed to disappear over time?
If I recall correctly though I'd have to reread it, they didn't actually know. They just guessed maybe it would, or maybe not. Apparently the answer is not, or at least not around there. Or alternatively it'll dissipate, but over the course of centuries or millennia, not mere decades.
Hug your dorfs, kids
Feather pubes? Cloaca maybe?
>wake up to monsteriffic mutation
>immediately awestruck by how cool it looks
Dawww
Fair enough!
Frick I just started crying right after reading this page.
What a perfect manga this was
sleeby
THAT. FRICKING. CAT.
Happened to be reading this in bed with cat sleeping on pillow next to me.
>cat starts stretching out and shifting as she gets more comfortable
>inevitably end up with foot/tail in face and getting woken up and having to shift her
>cat is always extremely put out by this
This is so realistic.
I suspect she intentionally woke up Laios because she heard Falin waking up, the timing suggests it's not a coincidence.
She just made it look like an accident because she doesn't want anyone to know that she cares.
I mean, it is his nature to fulfill human desires.
The very core of the issue was that he couldn't help doing it.
falin buttcheek, god bless you kui
The frayed robe design ressembles the capillaries from
That manga wouldn't be half as enjoyable without the autistic attention to worldbuilding, continuity and detail in general. which makes me a bit dissapointed at how the dwarven ruins were just cogfop, but I'd rather have some badly done machinery in the background than lose yet another mangaka to exhaustion.
She also has slit-shaped pupils now.
Reminds me of Stranger Than Fiction. What a ride. This one's gonna influence a lot of people. I've thought about sending some copies to Brandon Sanderson's fan mail address.
That's the true nature of his "curse", huh?
>seems the more cruel and painful path
What the FRICK did he mean by this?
To live is to struggle, and struggling isn't easy or comfortable.
To the Lion, death is the easy part of life because you can just lie back and let nature take its course. No desires, no wants, no struggles. Just quiet until you're processed into the next part of life.
She has to suffer Laios' presence instead of dying
To live is inherently struggling and suffering. The Lion has always viewed such a thing as pointless, when everyone could just be in pure Bliss in its belly, all their desires filled (and eaten) until they finally die. It's basically just bitter that its plan was foiled.
WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE
Never died, just lost his desire to eat desires
It's interesting that it certainly seems to lament that its plan didn't come about (and even seems a tad resentful too), but ultimately lacking its desire to consume just means it doesn't care enough to give much of a shit.
It could still potentially find a loophole or some other way to threaten the world, but not through eating desires anymore.
He's just hangin' out, man.
CONSUME
Creepy and cool
>feeding the little dragon a leg
you think that's why she's still got feathery ones?
>takes the dragon with her
I love Falin so much bros
She's too pure for words. She was worth the whole rollercoaster the party went on.
>She's too pure for words. She was worth the whole rollercoaster the party went on.
This, I'm totally satisfied here.
>You're telling me you ventured into the heart of magic and danger, fought, defeated and CONSUMED the ancient being from another universe that set our world on its current path, all just to save this one girl?
>Yes. And it was all worth it.
Smile status: protected
Wait... does this make her the dragon version of what the damned kot is?
that's how I interpreted it.
Only to at most a super minimal level. 98% or whatever of the dragon was consumed and in turn eliminated, along with most of its soul/self. They only left a little tiny bit to help regenerate Falin. Whereas Kot is like 50/50 or something close.
Good visual metaphor.
>bringing the dragon
Falin is too pure.
Between her new large intestines and his All Consuming Hunger Lite, their kids are going to be weird.
God, I hope Laius doesn't eat his kids.
Oh God Laios tarrare
How has no one drawn Laius as Saturn devouring his son?
Ah, good old long-lived racism.
When a mayfly hits you with a musing so myopic you gotta hit him with the long-lived wisdom.
I wonder if Kui meant the transition between the curse and Laios returning in human form to be self-evident, and wrote this scene after reading fan speculation, or if this was how it was meant to be revealed in the first place.
>even Marcille has so little faith in Laios' selflessness
Oof.
I would say saving Falin is the current goal, while monsters are the basis of his identity.
They're entirely right to be suspicious of Laius.
Such good friends
I figured it would be the result of the demon 'feeding' itself to him in that big battle. Because the demon eats the desires it grants.
Forget obesity, his stomach could burst.
Man, I'm sad to see this manga go but I'm glad to see it wrap up the way it did.
Laios is exactly how I feel now that the manga's complete. I'm still hungry for more.
LIOOOOOON
>I feel like I could still keep eating
...
Oh God damn.
wow

The Elves are at it again.
Its been a hell of a meal. Don't worry about being hungry for new /tg/ manga yet, but be full with the joy of the delicious conclusion!
It’s been a pleasure to read this with you all /tg/
Likewise. Ganker just had a storytime across the month or so leading to this of the whole series, but there's nowhere I'd rather read the final chapter than here.
unironically better than Ganker for this shit. It kind of feels like the end of an era. Is this really the death of old /tg/?
/tg/ has died and reborn many times by now.
It is merely the beginning of a new cycle.
>/tg/ has died and reborn many times by now.
>It is merely the beginning of a new cycle.
Row row, BITE DA POWAR!!!
And there are those of us who are old, who remember great times before and will be here for great times ahead.
the times before generals murdered the board?
/tg/ died the day anon was banned for posting story times of euro comics about cute mercenarie waifus doing their thing.
remember what the winged lion took from you
Got a name or some more precise description?
Artemisia most likely.
Same. I'm happy to have enjoyed this with you all. /a/'s threads have really been a lot worse
Depends on which /tg/. I get what you mean, I've been here on and off since 2012 and it's changed a lot since moot left us.
She did it, she said the theme
It's been a pleasure lads
>Ganker's threads have really been a lot worse
Smell like someone got called an autist one too many time. Were you the guy who spent the past week crying about spoilers (not crying because they wanted spoilers, crying because people were looking at the spoilers)?
>t. seething Gankerpe trying and failing to shit up this beautiful monument to a future classic
But Ganker loves DM
Granted. The /tg/ threads are still better though.
Uh, were better.
Ganker has been spammed since the anime was announced. The contrarianism kicked and now you have a bunch of trolls who want to shit up the board. Ganker in general is not in a good shape and even the more niche manga dump threads have been shittier and shittier
The fact it will be a Trigger anime already sets up a bunch of trolls and contrarians to shit up the threads.
With this, another string tying me to /tg/ has been severed. But it was great.
As soon as any series gets an anime the quality of the discussion on Ganker drops massively. There are dozens to hundreds of Ganker posters who just shitpost about popular anime. I'm actually glad the manga finished before the anime started.
the quality of threads on Ganker dropped as soon as the anime was announced.
Not massively but there are a few blatant shitposters and trolls that weren't there before
The elven seething was on both boards equally pathetic.
Yeah, but thanks to the anime announcement, the discussion is going to take a fricking nosedive.
The only manga to have ever had anime on Ganker and still retain high quality discussion are Iruma, World Trigger, and somewhat Dark Gathering. That's it.
At least we got to the end here. Everything else doesn't matter.
True.
What a ride it's been, since the first thread here.
This Manga really got me into fantasy and ttrpg a while back. Seeing the last chapter here right after I finished catching up a few weeks ago feels really nice.
It was a great journey, Kui made a good story with great art and a unique style. I can't remember eing satisfied with an ending like I am with this one.
Frick, Marceille even permanently changed how I draw elf ears, big n thick. This was way before It was shown other elves and it was revealed that her ears are like that.
Awesome pic for Halloween, anon.
I've almost always caught the threads when they're archived but it was fun reading it either way
I haven't been on Ganker in years, but since I discovered this manga on /tg/, it seemed fitting to come back to read it here for the final chapter.
I hope we'll read more great comics together.
Love you all, guys.
I just want to say thank you to the anon who posted about this in 2015, and all the anons after who posted storytime. It has been an adventure following this with you and the theories we would come up with. I look forward to the supplemental material, and all the short stories Kui will come up with. For now, take the panel that got me hooked.
It's been great.
It's been an excellent adventure. I wasn't here from the start, but it's been a great ride being here with all of you.
It’s been an honour, elegant gentlemen.
Came in when the Thistle confrontation was Storytimed, couldnt stay away after that.
Its been fun /tg.
I look forward to reading Kui's next work with you all.
A salute to all fellow fa/tg/uys. What a journey.
In a way, you're in the best position. You know she pulled this one off, you know there's a tasty ending waiting for you. Risk of getting Berserk'd: 0%.
It's been a pleasure. I quit being neet so I'm looking forward to what life has in store for me.
Seriously, you too anon. What a ride. Not that I won't reread it many times over the decades I think, but sappy as it sounds I feel unironically fortunate to have been here for it live from the start.
Its been a ride lads.
Likewise, anon. I sadly missed most of these, but I'm glad to be here for the glorious ending.
Aye, it's been a blast. I'll sure miss it.
It's been grand. See you, lunch cowboys -__-7
Same.
Think about what we should read next.
Thank you for this beautiful ending
How the frick am I 30 chapters behind on this shit? It felt like shit was reaching a climax the last time I fricking read! Good lord the ending to this shit must have been dragged out.
Monthly, just a little, but altogether it flows well. They set up all of the conflicts quite well, I'd give it a fresh go anon.
It runs in a magazine that has ten issues a year, so it's easy to lose track.
You would think, but the ending wasn't really all that drawn out. Things kept happening to reveal the goalposts weren't actually in sight as we thought.
>You would think, but the ending wasn't really all that drawn out. Things kept happening to reveal the goalposts weren't actually in sight as we thought.
Yep, it was actually refreshingly awesome, I dunno how to word it, surprisingly just what it said on the tin? Epic build up, great world building review, big finale, they win, expected big feast, and that's what it was. No stupid drama twists, just a solid, satisfying finale. Like a great meal I guess. Just really well cooked, no need to eat some experimental weirdness, expertly crafted from the first course to the last. The end.
>The only manga to have ever had anime on Ganker and still retain high quality discussion are Iruma, World Trigger, and somewhat Dark Gathering. That's it.
Eh, you're missing a bunch which makes sense because the stuff that stays as good discussion tends to be very niche with some small dedicated crowd and thread the needle of "all the typical anons dropped it after one episode, yet it was still fun enough and had enough soul to be nice for those who stayed".
Dungeon Meshi of course at this point is not niche and unknown, it's pretty hyped. So we'll just have to hope it's one of those rare ones that is so good it silences shitposting overall until at least a few months after it ends. One point in the hope column: shipping homosexualry is the death of many a discussion but DM is not a romance series and there is zero resolution there, so hopefully that gets nipped in the bud.
I got the "just finished a good story and now it's over" feels. Man this sucks.
I get that feeling man, I really do.
Would probably be hilarious if the Curse was just to put an understanding of Laios into monsters. The reason on why all of them monsters keep away is the fear of Laios getting hungry and eating them.
>Falin
Imagine being a regular adventurer, and when you get ressurected after dying for the 10th time this month, instead of it just being another thursday in your adventuring life, you learn that your party has conquered the giant dungeon, your brother is king of an entire continent, and you're a dragon hybrid.
Also, does Failin now have a dragon dick since the original dragon was male?
I think Falin understood that her death was a little different this time.
They were deeper down than before and she teleported her party back to the surface.
She probably wasn't even expecting to come back.
>Marcille
>No sense of right and wrong
No way, Marcille has more sense of right and wrong than everyone in the group else except maybe Chilchuk.
t.
The Thorden sandwich can now be fixed into place...
>does Failin now have a dragon dick
Yes
It has been an incredible journey. Thank you/tg/
Izutsumi got shafted
wait for extra chapters. beesides izutsumi was never meant to be more than the party pet, its even a running gag
>izutsumi (izutsumi)
>beesides izutsumi was never meant to be more than the party pet
The party *literally had a pet*
she changed a lot from the original concept.
in the oneshot she's like kui's self insert straight man character.
I don't agree, she became part of the team. A little on the side, as she is angst teenager, but she shown depth and contribution to the whole.
Izutsumi got a bad shake but her goal was by definition beyond the scope of the story. Personality-wise she's better off learning a lesson about accepting some things she dislikes to remain autonomous and with agency than to truly fix her body with something drawn out and superfluous to the main story.
Black person the whole story was about restoring someone who's half monster
But noo not Izutsumi
Let's just eat all the cats bits. Oh wait, that's 100% of her body
This. She also is no longer a monster now that she's away from NOTJapan, she's merely a strange kind of kobold.
>anon forgot the egg metaphor chapter
Izutsumi, despite her protesting wanting her original body back, is not suffering. She is healthy and has no complications stemming from being a beastkin. Her personal journey isn't analogous to Falin's because Izutsumi isn't a chimera under anyone's magical thrall, she's a free woman with all the pros and cons coming with those. The theme of the story as this chapter fricking explained is not about restoring what was lost but coming to terms with and accepting loss. Izutsumi has lost things but they don't weigh her down. Her chapter was distinctly about her getting the mindset to survive by herself and do what she wants and she stumbles because that motivation seemed to be less important than it was when she started.
Yeah all of which has made her a pointless character for the past two years
the point was silly catgirl reaction images
it's a manga, not high literature
>a character whose personality contrasts the themes was pointless
>a character whose existence helps guide the protagonists towards a solution was pointless
Learn how to read before you post on a Chinese waterboarding tutorial subreddit, anon.
Yes, pointless
>bro just learn to accept suffering
>but that doesn't apply to the rest of us ok
>Marcille's entire dilemma of outliving her friends still exists
>Laios is cursed to always feel hungry and can never indulge in his passion again
>Senshi we haven't seen, but his main place of residence is gone and he's not particularly welcome back with the dwarves
>Chilchuck is short and probably cucked by now
Certainly not exactly what they ordered, but once it's on your plate it's your duty to eat it.
At least they get to exist as characters in their own right
Izutsumi is nothing beyond her curse, a non-character
>Cat clearly isn't suffering
>Yeah, just learn to accept suffering!
Again, moron, learn how to read before posting here.
She was part of the Wizardry series references that the manga was filled with. Starting with Wizardry 6, Felpur (cat people) and Rawulf (wolf/dog people) were added to the race lists
Ah, so it was more young boar coloration.
Wasn't it also implied that she might have never been cursed? She assumed that she had been a normal human synced with a monster, but didn't actually know that to be true. This is just who she is!
There's two souls there, proven by the Succubus chapter
I want to shaft Izutsumi.
Black person, the whole character arc of Izutsumi was about accepting herself for who she is, and learning that she can be accepted by others.
The key point of her growth was the succubus chapter. She started it despising her condition because she thought herself as a corrupted malformed soul, but then she started to view the monster soul as her companion, not a parasite. She warmed up to the party because she understood they others can view and treat her as an actual proper human, and the monster part can even be beneficial at times.
By the time she came up with a goal to find the black mage who experimented on her, she has already accepted her form is permanent, and only wanted to take revenge. And even that it's really a true character goal, it's just something she made up on the spot because they needed to come up with desires to get to Marcille.
If anybody got shafted in terms of character progression, it's Chilchack.
Every other member of the team has ties to the main themes of the story, everyone had their issues and problems they faced and overcame. Chilchack is just sorta there. We know that he has family issues, a couple pages were spent on other characters giving him advice, and that's it, there's no resolution.
Chilchack is a static character and that's okay. He's the "adult" of the group and there's really no outstanding personal issue he needs to grow out of.
There WILL be an spin off manga for Izutsumi. She's the mangaka's pet characters, there's no chance this is the last we'll see of her.
I expect(read: hope) that we'll get a page or two on Chilchack's family. I don't see him in any of the epilogue pages, but he mentioned he was going to open a locksmith shop.
Falin is too pure I just can't
Posting in last Meshi chapter bread for posterity
I'm hoping the supplementary stuff lays out where everyone ends up from here.
The end of an era. I got to play an entire campaign as a character directly inspired by Dungeon Meshi. At least we have the anime to look forward to in a few months, and maybe we'll get a cool vidya someday. Been a grand time sticking it out with you, Anons
It's been fun reading this masterwork with you lads, I'm betting we'll have a few extra rounds when the supplementary book comes out.
It's unbelievable that it's over. Such a good series- It's been a pleasure reading it with everyone.
Have a good meal.
I'd be surprised if it's the last Dungeon Meshi thing she ever writes.
It wasn't even that good towards the end, so she should definitely make something new
I meant more another smaller side thing like https://mangadex.org/title/b982aa9c-17eb-415d-bcf8-a92f7daf0ae4/delicious-in-dungeon-world-guide-the-adventurer-s-bible
>wasn't even that good towards the end
I really want a "How to use real ingredients to make Dungeon meshi meals" cookbook
Fricking same. I've begun collecting novelty cookbooks and a Dungeon Meshi book would be given a place of honor on my shelf
For a while I lived in a place that had tons of soviet era cookbooks, among others they had recipes for preparing a brain and a lung. I'd expect a Dungeon Meshi cookbook to be similar.
Actually getting a brain or lung for personal consumption might be a bit complicated today, at least for an urban person, can you just walk up to a butchery and ask them?
I mean, I doubt they'd be able to handle that order on the spot but you could probably request it ahead of time.
>at least for an urban person, can you just walk up to a butchery and ask them?
Don't know about the world, but in France it's not that uncommon to find veal brain in a butchery
Most butchers won't have either.
They get entire sides of beef from slaughterhouses and butcher those.
Maybe they'll have some common organ meats like livers or brains, maybe. But you're not going to get lungs or the like from most butcher shops.
read
Dungeon Meshi is over.
Have a good meal everyone. It's been a good ride.
Well, it was a good meal of a manga
How did you find your meal? Will you be wanting dessert?
HEAR YE HEAR YE
IVE BEEN READING MESHI SINCE CHAPTER 1 AND NOW I PROPHECIZE THUS! "THERE WILL BE AN EPILOGUE CHAPTER AND THERE SHALT BE MUCH PLAPPING AND IMPREGNATING OF MARCILLE BY LAIOS
THUS SPOKE THE WISE ALUANDO
Marcille can't get pregnant
There is no arguing with prophecy
So sayeth the wise Aluando
Won't be for lack of trying that's for sure.
not with that attitude
Based.
the coolest group of elves, from anything, ever
Emperor Laios harem
Mithrun is cool, the rest is meh.
Still extremely funny to me that Mithrun is the real version of Marcille's ideal type from the succubus episode.
Have an edit I just made.
Got any Flamela?
>Pukey in the back still terrified/disgusted by Laios after the parasite incident
heh
Wouldn't you be if you got punched in the butthole from the inside out?
in the back still terrified/disgusted by Laios after the parasite incident
>heh
nice spot, another great detail
GIWTWM
god bless you anon
SO SAYETH THE WISE ALAUUUUNDO
Thank you, OP.
End of an era. Where does the time go, eh, /tg/?
It's been a real pleasure following along ith you guys.
What are you eating today anons?
For me it's duck and rice with a mushroom sauce
I just finished fried cubed potatoes and fried onion slices, with basil and black pepper seasoning. Between the bites I used up some sour cream I had left in the fridge.
I learned a lesson today - after finishing frying a dish on a pan, immediately put it into the microwave. It will get more uniformly hot than it was on the pan, and the saucer becomes hot as well which slows down the cooling of the food.
Put it in the microwave to heat it up? Or just to rest?
Heat it up of course. Heating up the saucer especially.
Actual pro tip: heat up just the plate in the microwave and then set your food on top to rest (Take meat off a little bit before temp so it finishes cooking on the plate). I also do this with coffee mugs so your coffee doesn't instantly become luke-warm from pouring it in a cold mug.
I made spaghetti and tomato sauce except on a bizarre whim I chucked in a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce that I've been meaning to get rid of for a while
I should have used half as much peppers and diced them up before adding them, but I think I'm onto a good idea here and will try it again. maybe with some cream or chicken or something...
I'm having some basic stir fry and rice at the moment but later today I'm going to a barbeque; friend is bringing burgers and I have a brisket cooking as we speak, has a little under seven more hours to go
I've reading this manga since 2015, this is the first time I post in these threads to tell all you anons these were 8 magical years of delicious meals with all of you. Thank you so much for being here reading this with me
Im eating minced meat with onions, garlic, pepper bell and tomato sauce mixed with mashed potatoes with cream, salt and white pepper
White rice, black beans, roasted flower and grilled chicken. The Brazilian classic.
So far: egg in a hole, a couple mugs of tea.
For lunch: a couple bean and cheese burritos, paired with flat mountain dew baja blast.
>breakfast
Hashbrowns with shredded onions and peppers, topped with sunny side eggs and a side of thick cut bacon. Coffee with heavy cream and a touch of maple sugar.
>lunch
Burgers with sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and horseradish. Side of battered and fried garlic scapes, the wife enjoyed but I think they're better in-season than from frozen.
>dinner
Chicken breasts, seasoned with a curry blend and rolled in panko, pan fried till crispy and golden, a side of rice and roasted vegetables.
>dessert
Mini pound cakes with honey-strawberry preserves and double devon cream.
Beef skewers with onions and bell peppers, and prepping some chicken wraps for a hike tomorrow.
swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes
This is the end....
Have you ever repped Dungeon Meshi in a game, Anons?
I've played a character who was blatantly just Mithrun.
Chopped off ears, lobotomized to be a moron outside of combat, and even the same backstory of being a bastard child who was better than his legitimate brother in every way.
I played an ursine shifter barbarian who got kidnapped by drow and stuck in the Underdark with the group that would become his party. His clan put a lot of emphasis on being able to provide, so learning how to cook was big there, and he rose to the challenge and kept his party very well-fed despite technically roughing it for most of the game. I even made meals with special effects that I pulled right from Meshi.
I played Senshi in a survival campaign. We didn't get to eat too many monsters since we actually started off with resources and prep time, and we all had some experience so we avoided most rookie mistakes, but it was still a blast. Had to enter rage whenever a party member wasted food though.
So eating the demon's sense of hunger has left Laios incapable of feeling full and the final curse was for all monsters to fear and avoid him instinctively.
His two greatest pleasures in life, gone. But he seems to be at peace with it.
Late to the party, almost done with book 1. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing.
Tasty journey ahead for me,
Enjoy it, friend. Shame you couldn't have joined in on the storytime threads on Ganker that some anon made leading up to this
Fellas, I need spreads that can be used for wallpapers. I need to change mine in celebration.
someone posted this panel and then I binged the entire series in half a day (up to what was released at that time)
never have I been more hooked in my life. thanks ryoko kui
Just don't use this one for your work computer if you don't want people asking questions.
It has been a pleasure, my friends.
Posting in a historical thread.
It's been a blast, crazy to look at this and compare it to say, Order of the Stick.
>OotS
haven't thought about this in years. i take it it went downhill?
We still get a /tg/ thread for each new page of OotS. But its author is getting old and releases only around 1 comic page per month nowadays, and much of it is just characters discussing things and making jokes, so even in 2 real life years the plot barely advances. The /tg/ threads are low-quality compared to Dungeon Meshi and Outsider.
well that sucks. is he still afflicted by some mystery illness ruining his health too?
Crohn's Disease I think, he's had it for years but he was younger back in the early 2000s.
/tg/'s choice of comics is honestly dope. They're very diverse, more often than not pretty niche, but always interresting. I guess it has to do with how handwaving the worldbuilding or stacking cool concepts without much though doesn't cut it here.
We had Endtown too, but then it got nuked for being "furry", despite the anons making a rpg system and everything.
And maybe others I may not know of.
I've got a nice chicken pie with carrots and onions, and I managed to get a giant meringue at the bakery. Seriously, that things weights 600g and was dirt cheap, I have dessert until next week.
>giant meringue at the bakery
They probably don't know what to do with their egg whites (though do bakeries use actual eggs vs bottles of white/yolk?)
>I managed to get a giant meringue at the bakery. Seriously, that things weights 600g
Literally what the frick? Meringue is light as shit, how big is this thing? The size of a wagon wheel? A car?
So this is it...the last meal. What a ride it has been.
I can't believe they actually had a good ending
I'll miss Pattadohl and her cute schnoz.
I still think it would be funny if the next series she does is the same world but later, and in the middle of the city is a statue of Laois looking much more dignified and regal than he ever was in life.
What do you guys think Ryouko's next project gonna be?
She has said a couple times that she wanted to go back to some of the characters from the anthologies (like that angel girl), but at the same time she seemed to post a lot of preliminary work about that faun girl.
what anthologies are those and where can I read them?
Also what is her twitter account where she posts her art?
I see people post art from there sometimes.
"Terrarium in Drawer" and "Seven Little Sons of the Dragon". The second but not the first is available in English print for some reason.
So, are we getting an official game out of this? Not a board game, but an rpg I mean. Hell even a 5e collaboration would do.
>DM must rearrange the dungeon layout whenever a PC really wants something
hm
>have multiple tables depending on the desire
>roll on table
Not hard.
Don't have it laid out I guess. Just have a bunch of different rooms ready and narrate through the navigation.
I hope we get per character epilogues in one of the supplemental books. Just a page or two each would do.
>the food on the table are what they ate along their journey
Aww
imagine if the lion starts focusing on sexual desires now that Laios has eaten his eating desires
>Laios starts seriously studying how to turn Marcille into a monster girl
>she's instantly repelled by him
well, farlyn seems fine with him
He didn't say he was doing a chimera (two souls mixed in one body) but a monster, so something like Mermaids or Dryads.
dragon did sort of get a happy ending (part of soul remained), i will now act smug.
I'm so used to stories that are all buildup with no payoff, or which flub their ending. It is genuinely soul-healing to read this and see it be true to itself and maintain its high quality right up to the end. A truly unique story and cast of characters that cannot be replaced.
Dungeon Meshi deserves to always be remembered as one of the all time best fantasy works.
I'm a bit late, but the update to Laios and the Chilchuck mods are done, Marcille and Senshi are still a work in progress but will be ready before the anime starts

You fricking legend
That's great, but...
>inb4 the devs delete their game thanks to Unity committing suicide
>Unity committing suicide
?
Darkest Dungeon 1 was made in with a custom C++ engine, DD2 was the one made in unity, so no loss there.
Ok, thank god.
Unity decided to start charging devs for each individual download/installation of the game using Unity engine.
Including pirate installations.
And repeat installations.
The internet is on fire now.
>And repeat installations.
But...but why!?
?si=TWGRBqEqdOyciDK9&t=19
genuine greed-fueled moronation.
now the whole greentexts about pirating a game x number of times to make a company bankrupt can become true.
Also NamarixTallmen siblings threesome doujin when.
>Also NamarixTallmen siblings threesome doujin when.
oh lord I'd forgotten about that oh boy
God I wish I were Namari in this situation.
I frickin' love legs so much bros...
>t. Namari
The CEO is greedy moron who doesn't understand videogames.
Didn't he sell a bunch of shares like a week before the announcement?
Is there a way to use these on the GOG version of DD1?
Imagine someone kidnapping King Laois, the monster repellent, from the Golden Kingdom, could your party get it back?
That's actually a very good hook for a fantasy game.
You can follow the wave of destruction that the monsters leave as they try to run away from him.
What a wild ride. Farewell, Anons! I'm going to miss all of you!
Even you, That One homosexual Who Somehow Never Managed To Learn That His Name Is Laios, Not Laois!
Hardback when?
Canary-bros, we all made it out alive.
I would really like a where they ended up short comic for the Canaries.
in jail, hopefully
Nah they already got recruited as diplomats.
Only pats IIRC
The manaka says she continues writing in this setting, so the chances are high
What humans (and similar) are confirmed to have permanently died during the events? Only the ghosts they dispelled come to mind.
the adventurers killed by the orcs and by kabru
What happened to that Dwarf girl who got sucked into the portal?
I haven't read since.
She got spit out when the big bad got defeated.
You mean Namari? That's near the end anyway. You might as well just finish it up. She's fine. She got popped back out.
I love the stylish moves Senshi is pulling on that page, I don't think he ever did semi-acrobatic fighting like that again. He really did pick up a lot of skills in the dungeon.
I'm glad it's over.
Honestly this kingdom would surely have fallen to ruin within months if not for Kabru, but I am confident with him as Grand Vizier they will be able to bluff and manipulate their way through everything.
What would've happened if Laios got eaten by the dragon instead?
I don't think Farlyn would have been autistic enough to rally the party together. In fact, the party would probably just tell her to leave it as a job hazard.
>Shuro would've stuck around and probably Falin could've talked him round to bringing his retainers with them.
>With Shuro, funds are secured and there's no need to eat monsters, so they never meet Senshi.
>They manage to kill the Red Dragon, but Marcille doesn't revive Laios because Shuro and his followers don't agree with using dark magic for it.
>Demon frees itself sooner or later, maybe the Canaries gets him in this dungeon, maybe they don't, eventually he breaks out and swallows the world
I hope part of the epilogue covers Laios' parents.
>try to raise son to take over running the village
>he joins the military instead
>gets kicked out, runs away, takes his sister with him
>years pass
>have no idea what's going on because he doesn't write back
>suddenly hear that an entire kingdom emerged out of the sea and he's the king of it for some reason
>also your daughter has feathers now
>what the frick
Surely Falin (who did write back) mentioned Laios to them
the only manga i have bought volumes for
I'm waiting for a HC edition.
I made small thing by poorly combining maps of races from Adventurs' Bible (as they don't overlap).
nice
>perfect circle around where Utaya was
un-nice

My mouth cringed back into my throat.
I don't care if you think it's cringe, this is the best ship in the manga.
If I ever need to entertain you I'll jingle some keys.
That doesn't look like Inutade/Chilchak, anon.

Laios really is a good name for a King.
King Laois I Thorden, the Devourer of Evil.
It ended on a big feast, ok, but where is the tied up bard?
I think I found him, but it's kinda hard to tell...
i still ship laois and the elf and i like the idea that Marcelle essentialyl becomes queen regent with grandkids that take after Laios and just push the responsibility to her for generations
Marcille is barren...
>inb4 kings sisters kids become the next generation of royalty in golden land
>golden land is now ruled by half dragon descendants of the sister of "Laios the foul eater"
That's not a bad idea actually... the half-dragon monarchy of the monster kingdom...
Thats some cool headcanon bro.
WDYM? It's straightforwardly said that half-anything's cannot make babies, and Marcille is a half-elf.
Oh hey you're that sperg from Ganker.
I don't visit Ganker. Are you trolling?
Are you?
There was only one sperg on Ganker who kept obsessively going on about how Marcille is infertile.
nta but eh, "people can't live 1000 years" or "resurrect from death" either... unless you do some super magic and then they can. Remember dungeon magic is now on the surface as well, they can resurrect, have big deal monsters up there etc. The "dungeon" now encompasses the world, the high mana from the other universe the demon came with still exists at least for Laius' lifetime even if the demon itself no longer has the desire to consciously influence its use. And in the final page there we see children who are clearly hybrids.
Of course Kui could go either way, and I am very satisfied with no clear romance beyond established solid partners like chilchack and his wife, no "he married so&so". But if Kui wanted Marcille to decide to have kids and figure out some magic to fix the genetic problem frankly it'd be pretty established. They clearly have a solid understanding of biology and magical manipulation of very low level processes, it's necessary for resurrection and healing. The elves and dwarves probably know what genetic code is, and have magic to do chimerization and such already. So wouldn't be a stretch either way.
I guess?
>And in the final page there we see children who are clearly hybrids.
Kobold-gnome and kobold-orc?
I thought they were just varieties from kobold and orc ethnicities other than the ones we saw in the dungeon. She drew a big list of portraits which showed that eg Oni are very varied. But could be.
I mean like I said, I'm completely satisfied with avoiding that entire can of worms given that the series itself didn't build that at all really. Yet another thing I think made DM special is Kui stayed well focused, so many authors even with something good let too many different plot lines and new themes enter in and lose focus or ability to stay on plot and juggle all the balls. Plenty of places where DM could have gone that way and just... didn't. Which is awesome.
But if the after material next year had some matter of fact note "yeah Marcille was able to develop magic 20 years later to deal with having a family" I wouldn't call it an asspull either, just some fun flavor from a world we may never see again.
That was just a kobold and orc kid, why do you think they were hybrids?
>The elves and dwarves probably know what genetic code is
Thank you, anon. This is probably the funniest cope I have ever seen and my world is brighter for it.
Pregnancy is rare, but can occasionally occur naturally, as well as through embryo transfer. A few mare mules have produced offspring when mated with a horse or donkey stallion.[26][27] Herodotus gives an account of such an event as an ill omen of Xerxes' invasion of Greece in 480 BC: "There happened also a portent of another kind while he was still at Sardis—a mule brought forth young and gave birth to a mule" (Herodotus The Histories 7:57), and a mule's giving birth was a frequently recorded portent in antiquity, although scientific writers also doubted whether it was really possible (see e.g. Aristotle, Historia animalium, 6.24; Varro, De re rustica, 2.1.28). Between 1527 and 2002 approximately sixty such births were reported.[27] In Morocco in early 2002 and Colorado in 2007, mare mules produced colts.[27][28][29] Blood and hair samples from the Colorado birth verified that the mother was indeed a mule and the foal was indeed her offspring.[29]
A 1939 article in the Journal of Heredity describes two offspring of a fertile mare mule named "Old Bec", which was owned at the time by Texas A&M University in the late 1920s. One of the foals was a female, sired by a jack. Unlike her mother, she was sterile. The other, sired by a five-gaited Saddlebred stallion, exhibited no characteristics of any donkey. That horse, a stallion, was bred to several mares, which gave birth to live foals that showed no characteristics of the donkey.[30] In a more recent instance, a group from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1995 described a female mule that was pregnant for a seventh time, having previously produced two donkey sires, two foals with the typical 63 chromosomes of mules, and several horse stallions that had produced four foals. The three of the latter available for testing each bore 64 horse-like chromosomes.
But who gives birth to the kids?
I didn't realize Kui was a fan of Darkest Dungeon
just when I didn't think I could like her any more
Also dwarf fortress
It's no surprise, she's a huge western fantasy nerd.
I can't recall exactly, but Dungeon Meshi has it's roots in Diablo, I think, or something around then.
Whole reason for
Nice, didn't even notice that post til now! Wonder if Kui's seen the mod.
Probably not, but here's hoping. I did include a "Japanese" localization that just has the same english text so it's still playable on Japanese copies.
>Y'know that thing where elves take for granted that people of all the other races look up to and admire them?
>They should really stop thinking that...
>It's honestly kind of embarrassing.
I can't believe anyone on /tg/ ever disliked this girl.
What a great story
And such a sweet, warm ending too
Wholesome/10
Trigger gonna be mad at the ratio of Bitter and Sweet. Yeah permanent dissatisfaction and loss of a dream is sad but it's a lot better than how they like to own their own settings.
>Trigger gonna be mad at the ratio of Bitter and Sweet
That's a point that makes me more hopeful about the anime. I've noticed that studios or even artists with talent can still fall into sort of typecast ruts, and sometimes you get really amazing works when such a place is forced to do something differently, and it ends up being fresher. Like, the talent is there, just needs to be woken up. We'll see how it goes but they have good material for sure, and have in the past had solid technical execution ability.
>but it's a lot better than how they like to own their own settings.
havent followed their stuff in a while but klk had a pretty super positive huge gang defeats big bad ending iirc, and weird but cool dudes. dunno dont remember it being downer in the slightest overall even with a few hard spots
I feel like you're forgetting Senketsu is reduced to a handful of fibers floating in orbit and may eventually starve for lack of a host or burn up when his orbit decays. The Graduation Special reveals he's definitely still alive up there so rescue isn't ENTIRELY impossible but eh.
well marcille has resolved herself to death, thistle passed, kid prince lost his body and had to take his parents'. its a happy ending but not disney sweet. consumed desires are gone. klk involved some sacrifice but it was still a pretty damn happy ending given all the shit that went down yeah? like i said tho that one was also a long while ago and havent watched their recent stuff if it got darker
Can I get a 'I wonder what you taste like' too?
I think we all knew this is where it would end.
>May he ever hunger, consuming all, as he must.
