      Twitter
Why the frick would anyone spend millions of dollars and a frickton of resources on E3 press conferences when they could just tweet out their announcement on a tuesday afternoon and it'd get more direct engagement than it ever would've with a massive expensive press conference?
Add in to that how making E3 demos and trailers was also a massive waste of money and time and it becomes very clear why E3 is dead now

Nintendo made everyone realize that you didn't need to go to E3.

I still can't get over that Nintendo was ahead of the curve with directs. Usually they're moronicly way behind the times when it comes to the business side of things.

They were practically forced into doing it because western game journalists were intentionally misreporting on Nintendo's games and systems. So they needed their own way of directly addressing gamers.

Nintendo made everyone realize that you didn't need to go to E3.

Nintendo always went to E3. Then MS started hosting their's event at another venue across the street, then Sony completely bowed out, then covid happened.

They stopped caring about gaming and having fun. Plus, part of the problem is the shoddy economy. The people pulling the strings were not going to risk spending billions of dollars for an event they are not going to get any of their revenue back.

every moron is saying "its because game publishers can just do a live stream and save money" but thats the not the full story, E3 was dying way before covid, a gaming convention that focus ONLY on video games was doomed to fail, E3 was already setting up to change into what their name means ALL electronic entertainment not just games, thats why they had the GOT pannel and the simpsons panel. Problem is LA already has comic con, so no big players were gonna do their reveals at E3 you wouldn't see a marvel panel or a dc panel, the people at reedpop thought they could get those big companies to come but no they all chose comic con instead.

Thats what happened. Since they were abandoning gaming, gaming moved on from E3.

Being an event for insiders by industry insiders is no longer profitable or in anyones interest.
You invite everyone from the industry and charge a premium for it all while the average consumer has jackshit to try and see there.

Gamescom meanwhile is doing fine because its run by the industry FOR the consumers who go there and actually can try out and play new/upcoming titles and make some unique experiences.

      People say
      >Online streams killed it
But if that was the case Gamescom, TGS and all the other gaming events outside of E3 would be dead as well - But they actually make bigger numbers each year. (except during covid for obvious reasons)

E3 is not a "show" it was an event, stop spamming this moronation. Keighley's thing is a series of small livestreams and a singular one that's comparable to a press con, the Sate of Play, Nintendo Direct, and Xbox Showcase that came out during the same time aren't a part of it in the same way they were a major part of e3, you're a fricking moron.

Press cons take place days before the floor open, I know you're a fricking gen z moron but a "trade SHOW" is not a "TELEVISED show". Prior to like 2010 it was strictly an industry show and before 2017 they didn't let public people buy tickets, you needed at least a minor connection to the industry. Trade Shows are where people go to mingle and show off tech to the press and get the shareholders/higher-ups excited, E3 turning into a consumer fanfest is against the very nature of the concept. The fact you moronic fricks keep acting as if it's only these press conferences shows how fricking stupid it has gotten.

I'd argue that 2021 did because people realized then that we don't need platforms and events like E3 and G4. for game announcements and vidiya related topics. Summer Game fest is going to end up the same way within the Next 5-10 years so we may as well enjoy that while it last.

What made E3 special is a group of people could go to gaming events to play video game demos for upcoming titles and just enjoy the nonsensical presentations all-together. Now companies are split and just do their own thing which killed the magic. You can say "nothing changed" but E3 back in the days used to hit different.

The only people that got to experience the real E3 were the ones with connections that let them inside the staff and booth members only section. If you just got to stand in line for hours to try out a game for 15 minutes then you weren't experiencing the real E3.

  19. 11 months ago

E3 would have still had people go to it even with nintendo directs and the like.

What really killed E3 were the trannies and fun police basically sanitizing the event and making it no fun allowed. Taking away a reason for people to even go to E3 is what killed E3.

i fricking hate woketards with a burning passion but i don't see how they played a role in destroying it
what really killed it was people having a moronic obsession with efficiency

i mean, why go to an event that's actually special, have fun, maybe even meet someone, see live showcases
when you can be a braindead idiot sitting on your desk and mindlessly watching a video showcasing the new games
who cares if it's a less fulfilling experience then actually going to a real event filled with real people, it's much easier, and that's all that morons care about
