It's very cozy but can also be difficult at times. Make sure to portal back to magicant to train up each new party member as you get them
I did played it with some "improvment" patch but it still sucks.
best way to play it is Tomato's retranslation of the GBA version and equipping the Easy Ring that increases experience gained while also reducing the encounter rate
you don't get overleveled but it makes the game a lot more palatable to play if you dislike high encounter rates
you can easily get overleveled if you grind even a little bit with that though
BEST way to play is the MOTHERFRICKING goddamn NES version and MOWING DOWN your enemies
>Literally called the "Easy Ring"
Great way to make sure no one uses it
Why? The grindyness of the original is the main thing people take issue with.
It was put there to specifically address those problems, people know what they're changing by equipping it
It's pretty mediocre at best, yeah
How on Earth is it mediocre if it's so far ahead of every other JRPG at the time? What are you comparing it to? This came out during the time of FF2
>can't handle the SOVL
tisk tisk.
remaster when
I thought it was good
i honestly got lost after magicant
managed to get lloyd, teddy and then stopped since i had no idea where to go
homie you were practically nearing the end, you just need to find all the melodies
there's a guy in magicant that gives hints at their locations late in the game, but the overall lack of direction and handholding is part of the appeal
I really loved the vocal soundtrack they released alongside this game
For a NES JRPG it's amazing. SNES one is just ok for a SNES JRPG.
funny how this makes the game sound awesome, yet in practice earthbound is still leaps and bounds above it
then go play dragon quest and final fantasy on the nes since you love soulless generic medieval shit instead of an actually fun, comfy, soulful game moron
ff3 was best in the series you pig
I never liked earthbound. I tried to play it multiple times as a kid but i always get bored before the first boss
only groomers play earthbound
Mother 1 has a lot of rough bits, but there's something about the atmosphere that I dig and it keeps bringing me back.
You've got these innocent small towns but there's a sinister energy just hanging over everything, there is bunch of weird or creepy shit around every corner.
A town terrorized by zombies, a zoo where all the animals are running wild, a town where all the adults disappeared and the kids have to fend for themselves. I found it weirdly engaging, even more than mother 2 in some ways, maybe because it's less jokey.
there's something compelling and melancholic about the entire journey
the entire game you collect lost fragments of a lullaby your late grandmother used to sing to the antagonist
someone who you're no match against physically, but you sing the melody and they break down in despair
there's something beautiful about that to me, idk
Is this "Mother 1"?
no its earthbound 0
>grinding is tedious
>dying often in earlygame means you have to traverse through Magicant every single time
>additional party members join you at level 1
ONLY 'kinda'?
NES games generally look like shit
I do agree kinda. I think Shatterhand and Panic Restaurant look cool, and Contra and Mario 3 and most of the big tentpoles are tolerable, but your average NES game is eye searing shit.
ENTER
That game used external chips in the cart, so it doesn't count.
Hate to break it to you but nearly every NES game had extra shit in the cart, otherwise they'd all look like Super Mario Bros. because there wouldn't be enough memory to store anything more complex.
>as he plays the latest pixel indie rougelite platformer metroidvania slop
Were they right to not release the completed English translation back in the day?
Gameplay is worse, but the story is way better than Earthbound. The latter feels like a clueless disjointed retread of the same story after you play M1.
It feels like a beta version of Earthbound between the character designs and how everything plays out.
