Have you never played Earthbound? You have to do a ton of grinding in the early game, and can't even begin to have fun until you get Paula so the RNG has more than one person to rape up the fricking ass, making it only half as frustrating.
i bet you used exclusively lifeup to heal instead of just filling your inventory with burgers and using those instead
if you know what you're doing you don't need to grind at all
I dropped my second playthrough before rescuing Paula because it was nothing but misery. Couldn't beat Gigant Ant until fricking level 9 because of shit RNG with the level ups so I had shit stats, and then after some other general annoyances, finally fricking quit when I was about to save Paula, but died in the encounter with the blue men and crow because I missed the crow four fricking times in a row, wasted my bomb in my inventory on it, and then got raped by 13 blue men, yes 13, because I fricking killed 10 and they kept on calling reinforcements.
>respawn in the shop if you called dad there >drop a small fee to get pp back in the "hotel" >go into cathedral house, only fight the two necessary cultists >meme on carpainter with franklin badge >free paula
you were this close to getting to the good part of the game
I think there is some semi-nessecary grinding to get past the enemies on the way to happy village. Those frickers are nasty, especially the trees.
Also when you get Paula, she gets one shot by everything except a couple enemies in the cave so you are forced to get at least a couple levels from those weak enemies.
I wouldn't REALLY call these spots grinding, as you can do a sufficient amount of grinding in just a few minutes.

that's why you don't do the cave first and instead go to threed and come back to the cave later

I replayed it during the covid outbreak and think his critique is bullshit, the early game is hard sure but it's just a matter of getting enough money for decent equipment and stacking healing items, it would be a worse game if you mindlessly walked through everything to the next town with no challenge and would make gaining party members feel less impactful, Ness is just a dumb kid and it makes sense he would be weak early on

Only part of his post I agree with.

>too much of the humor seems lost in translation
Maybe literal setup/punchline jokes, but the game is heavily centered around American culture, as is the humor. If anything I'd say japs miss just as much
I played earthbound last year and it’s amazing. I beat earthbound beginnings earlier this year and it was kino except end game was overtuned as frick and not playtested.
Is that the homosexual because of whom some people pretend they didn't like FF8?
Anyway, I personally don't like Earthbound because it's not my kind of humour, I don't like the setting (modern times and kids as the party) and my autism forces me carry all items that look like they could be key items for quests or whatever at all times and the inventory system doesn't really support that way of thinking.
Not saying it's bad, just not my thing.
I do agree to an extent, game is pretty grindy through Paula since you only have Ness. You also start each character at level 1. But I’m an RPG guy so that’s not really a detractor for me
My only complaints were the inventory management and that it could do with a QoL update if they ever remade it. Other than that, it was a good fun romp.
I have a special place in my heart for spoony over the FFVIII review. But, he is a one note reviewer. He has nothing going for him other than his ability to shit on a game. One note reviewer without much clarity on his positions.
>>be Nintendo far >>hear about earthbound for 15 years
come out, ok I'll check Earthbound out >>it sucks >>like it really sucks, turn based 2 options only, most characters have just 1
later see breakdown video of why Earthbound so good, watch it

I only really remember grinding for the first boss, after that it was just normal progression

If that’s true I don’t think it’s RNG anon, God just hates you.
It is true, and it convinced me that the only reason I liked Earthbound was because I got extremely lucky with the RNG.

Only area that was difficult enough to warrant grinding was that store with the floating coffee cups and shit but you can just brute force the area.

Spoony is still alive? Thought he would've hanged himself or trooned out by now
isn't he dead yet?
Take care of your mental health lads.
>filtered by onett
opinion discarded
Twoson and Peaceful Rest Valley were worse tbh.
at least there's someone waiting at the end of that struggle, the game gets better from there
those are easy moron
Isn’t he literally homeless now?

Literal who? Stop posting about homosexuals.
Also earthbound fans are morons who cannot comprehend games at all, literal no taste at games

Sounds about right
My only complaints were the inventory management and that it could do with a QoL update if they ever remade it. Other than that, it was a good fun romp.
my only complaint about inventory management is that escargo express doesn't have unlimited space
YEAR OF THE SPOOOOONER
the only grinding I remember doing is getting to level 10 before leaving onett and leveling poo with those catepillar dudes in the desert
