Don't get the 3DS versions if you can help it. They're just inferior to the various other versions. Either get them on Steam or get the Striker Pack on Switch or PS4.
Also play them in release order. Do not jump into Copen's spinoff series, Luminous Avenger iX, before atleast completing GV1 and GV2 first.

As someone who played the LaL it is definitely a Jrpg on the shorter side and 10 to 18 hours sound about right it was fun game but frick the last 2 chapter's because random encounters do not work that game doubly so in arguably the most backtrack heavy chapters. Imo buy which ever appeals to you more.

In Xenoblade 1 you can have Melia, Fiora and Sharla as your party.
In Xenoblade 2 you can have Nia + Kosmos, Morag + Brigid and unfortunately 1 male character + Pyra/Poppi/Pandoria as your party.

It's a really experimental hodge podge of ideas that some devs smashed into a single game, and it somehow worked
It's nothing too amazing, but it is a pretty interesting game that did some cool experimental stuff for a SNES JRPG. This also looks like a really damn good remake of the game, which is surprising from Square Enix, but this being the first time it comes westward also adds some extra excitement to it.

1. Good sense of adventure and progression
2. Fun gameplay that can still remain fresh and/or engaging even 120 hours in (great battle themes and smooth menu navigation can go a long way)
3. Great lore, world design and story that get you invested
4. Fun cast of characters with varied personalities and playstyles/classes that also mesh well together
5. At least one good twist
The later into the game the final boss shows up, the better
