Use rainbow stones then, I guess. I do admit it's difficult to gauge some falls. You can fall a distance and take 10% fall damage, then fall 3ft further and instantly die. I wonder why they didn't just damage you based on your fall distance like previous souls games.
>damage you based on your fall distance like previous souls games
They do. It's just that the min height for taking damage was increased by a lot and the window of taking damage and not dying is way smaller because of it.
>You can fall a distance and take 10% fall damage,
You actually can't. What they did was take the old fall damage formula, and then set fall damage to 0 if your fall was less than a certain threshold. This means that in older games where you might take 10% or 30% damage on a fall, now you take zero, but if the fall would have done 70% in DS3, or killed you instantly, it will do the same in elden ring. That's where the "inconsistency" comes from, a small difference in fall height can mean the difference between zero damage or death.
>This means that in older games where you might take 10% or 30% damage on a fall, now you take zero, but if the fall would have done 70% in DS3, or killed you instantly,
This is what I was trying to say they should bring back. It would be a clear indicator that falling any further would definitely kill you.
The issue is that they didn't want to punish you for moderate falls, and in fact designed the map around being able to make such moderate falls safely. What should have been done is setting the old 70% fall damage to the start of fall damage ramp up in elden ring. Of course, this would make Elden Ring fall damage ramp up still much faster than in previous games (assuming they don't want to increase maximum fall distance, which I understand not wanting to do), but better than going from 0 to 70% in 1 meter.

the top two endings are at 27% and 20% which means the completion rate is above 20% no matter how you slice it, probably closer to 30~40% once you account for all different endings
it's one of the highest completion rates i've seen for a game of that length
I got burned out on it because I'm stubbrn and doing this with a Iron Spear str as my first souls game. I'm currently at Morgott and might pick it back up in 5 years. Maybe.
I would've finished it if there were some great relaxing games to balance this stressful game but alas everything just generally has no soul and I'm tired AF of Minecraft.
Use rainbow stones then, I guess. I do admit it's difficult to gauge some falls. You can fall a distance and take 10% fall damage, then fall 3ft further and instantly die. I wonder why they didn't just damage you based on your fall distance like previous souls games.
I remember slowly walking down a mountain at a funny angle and then instantly dying when after hitting the point where the terrain was no longer steep. The engine for these souls games was quaint for the first couple entries but it baffles me how more modern releases aren't rightfully criticized for the outdated jank that comes with it. A decade later and you still die from a 3ft fall after an enemy attacks you through a wall.
I did play it, this happened to me while on the mountain that connects to volcano manor. Don't respond to posts of this sort if you don't understand how the game works.
Yes you can, as I said it happened to me. I was scaling down a cliff at an angle steep enough to cause the game to put me in a fall state. However, the cliff was at a low enough angle where my vertical position would not change unless I were move the joystick. I carefully descended down the mountain, slowly going down vertically. However, despite there being several times my character was completely stationary, the engine erroneously never took me out of the initial fall state I was in. This, when I did the final small 3 foot fall to get to the bottom of the cliff, the game mistakenly applied 50+ft of fall damage despite the actual vertical fall distance being 3ft. This caused me to die instantly from a short 3ft fall.
Therefore, you can die from a 3ft fall in Elden Ring, and to deny it is complete delusion. You're completely tunneled into FromSoft titles; you do not play enough games
You said you got hit by an enemy through a wall and fell 3 feet and died, not that this was related to the fall state glitch you talked about earlier in the post. That you omitted this part from your retelling of the events now suggests to me you made up the event, but it is possible the bug is still in the engine, it could be triggered with some consistency on one of the butresses in Anor Londo in Dark Souls Remastered.
I can find no documentation of this bug being triggered in elden ring. It could still technically be possible, but the fact that it apparently is happening to almost nobody, if not actually nobody, in this game, suggests From did a good enough job either fixing it or avoiding it via correct map making.

I didn't say that the fall was caused by enemy, and the implication was that you can play the game and notice several glitches in a small time span. Get hit through wall -> decide to go elsewhere -> die from weird slop behaviour. I'm not sure how common that fall glitch is, maybe I'm one in a million, but I swear on my life it happened. It's just one example of many possible glitches that I have found still occur from Dark Souls. The falling damage isn't really an issue in DS since it's not open world, but it is in Elden Ring. I've heard many other complaints about the fall damage mechanics and that tells me they should've adjusted how they worked to better suite the open world map.

They really should have just removed fall damage if you double jump on Torrent. AFAIK there is NOWHERE in the game that would be broken by allowing that.
>They really should have just removed fall damage if you double jump on Torrent
this is the major problem. the double jump completely eliminates fall speed and makes it look like you just died of a stubbed toe. I don't know why it doesn't reset yor fall distance after you do it. it takes all the fun out of what could be a rewarding shortcut for well timed jumping. it's like the game is insisting you waste your time by going around.
A liberal homosexual feminist Jap was teaching a class on Hidetaka Miyazaki, known hack
”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Fromsoft and accept that The Lands Between is the greatest fantasy setting of all time even greater than Arda!”
At this moment, a brave, patriotic, British WW1 veteran who had served 1500 tours of duty on the Somme and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all decisions made by Butcher Haig stood up.
”What are the gameplay differences among the past seven Fromsoft games?”
The arrogant nip smirked quite israelily and smugly replied “Each game is completely different, you stupid gaijin”
”Wrong. It's the same game remade over half a dozen times, and is advertised as such. Even George Martin himself referred to Elden Ring as a Dark Souls sequel.”
The From shill was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Elden Ring. He stormed out of the room crying those Japanese crocodile tears. The same tears Japanese (who today live in such luxury most can afford multiple body pillows) cried when Hiroshima was bombed. There is no doubt that at this point our Jap-homosexual wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a garbage rehash consoomer. He wished so much he could die a glorious death in battle, but he knew deep down he would never be a white man!
The students applauded and became Tolkien fans that day and accepted the Pope as their Lord and Master. A giant eagle named “Thorondor” flew into the room and perched atop the flag of Gondor and shed a tear on the White Tree. The Return of the King was played in co-op several times, and Eru Ilúvatar himself showed up and enacted Aragorn's flat rate tax policy across the universe.
The Jap was fired the next day and sunset found him squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up he was committing sudoku in brown water.
What? You can regularly make 30ft drops with no fall damage in this game.
it's not consistent

It is consistent, just moronic.
