am i the only one who wasn't like amazed by the game
i just don't think open world meshes with fromsoft's level design all that well, it felt boring to me
i think i like dark souls 1 the most, followed by either bloodborne or ds3, i keep going back and forth on which one i like more. i personally think fromsoft struck gold with the old hunters and ringed city. nice, fun, tightly packed levels with enemies for you to test out your weapons on and then phenomenal bossfights to finish them off (although maria in the clocktower is a bit easy once you know how to parry).

i think elden ring from a gameplay standpoint is great, for example the way magic was repurposed. i found myself playing the game more and more going for posture breaking like i did in bloodborne but combine using weapon arts (which were shit in ds3 but are good here) + magic to fire off a gigantic blast of damage to the boss. there really isn't a stat in the game that isn't worth putting points into, in my opinion and i think that's great.
the disconnected level design because of it being open world however is not great. the high fantasy setting is also not something i enjoy, i just like the dreary, dark fantasy settings of the older games.
it's a fine game but it definitely has flaws:

>whole game is too short and too linear in my opinion, at least bb had offshoots and side content you could do, you can shit on chalices but they have a fixed progression path that lets you farm souls and basically remodel your stats so you can try out even more weapons you didn't before. shame bb has less weapons but it has tricks + good movement so that's fantastic.

yes and no. the way elden ring's world was designed, I can agree with that sentiment. however, this isn't to say that it can't be done. basically, they almost have a good format; each major area has a primary legacy dungeon, plus a bunch of stuff to do on the periphery. the problem is that the side content is lower quality and not really worth doing more than once. it'd be better if the side content wasn't as generic, and rewarded you with an actual incentive. maybe sometimes it could be weapons and spells and equipment, but other times it could be story/quest related content. like maybe tie major npc questlines to specific side content so that you'd have a reason to do it again on subsequent playthroughs.
elden ring's biggest problem is that much of it can be considered bloat. the best parts of the game are just going from major dungeon to major dungeon.
I also don't really give a frick about the openworld aspect of ER but it had more than a gamesworth of classic style areas. My biggest gripe about the open world is I find it too daunting to replay because the game is just so fricking big.

I played King's Field when I was a kid and bought Demon's Souls on release.
I was not disappointed by Elden Ring. I'm waiting for the dlc.
I think 2 is great so far. It’s my first time playing and I just finished killing off the 4 old ones, when is it supposed to get awful and be the worst part of the franchise?
