This is in no small part due to how absolutely dogshit elden ring's pvp is even compared to other souls games, along with the sheer length of the game making repeat playthroughs tedious.
On a first playthrough? Absolutely god-tier game, easily the best in the series. After that? I spend half the game trying to get all the quests done because I have to go all over the place looking for NPCs because they have shit I want.
Repeat playthroughs are literally the opposite of tedious because 80% of the game is optional, and now that you know where everything is you can just do the parts you want to do and ignore the ones you don't
I have the kind of autism that makes me do everything (at least in terms of NPC quests). Dungeons I can skip, sure.
I don't know what the frick you two are smoking but from my own experience, elden ring pvp has been magic spam, ganks, and all manner of oneshots, assuming the host isn't just being a homosexual on some out-of-reach platform. Arena's too full of tryhard homosexuals and academy gate, since the arena came out, instead got filled with the rejects who were too aids for even the arena.
DS3 pvp was just as bad, between all the curved swords and murky handscythe. I just want to go back to the comfier days of DS2 pvp, where the only things to really watch out for were ice rapier, katanas, and clowns.

Wdym? There's 8 +10 mats for the special upgrade weapons and 13 +24 mats for normal upgrade weapons. A total of 21 max upgrade weapons. Meanwhile, you can only respec 18 times a playthrough. Even then, the difference between +9/+24 to +10/+25 isn't even that significant.
On top of all that, most of your respecs are numbers tweaks rather than full on different builds, so you're usually fine using what already had max upgrades after respec or just switching its infusion. Really the combos of offensive stats only end up with 15-ish different combinations, so even full on build switching every time isn't reaching 21 max upgrade weapons for each different one.

I saw this one guys in defense of ER video and he made some great points that changed the way I viewed the combat for the better: bosses should be approached with the intent of posture breaking for the crit like Sekiro enemies, except you build their posture by attacking rather than deflecting. It makes sense cause posture breaking in ER occurs much more often than the other games, but it gives zero instruction to indicate this, and its probably because they didn't design it like this intentionally but some DNA from Sekiro made its way in - the same way Bloodborne DNA made its way into DS3.
Another way it was described was as a game of trading hits which also makes sense for *some* bosses, but also not really sense there is no poise system, and the counter-attack mechanic isn't exactly a replacement of that.
Either way, they did an awful job at giving the player protips for how to approach combat with critical enemies.
