Having the highest peak doesn't mean much when you drop off that quickly. Look at GTA, Skyrim and especially World of Warcraft in comparison and how the search interest stayed high year after year.
The game is good that's all it takes. Having lore depth on par with elder scrolls or deus ex didnt hurt either it gave legs to the discourse surrounding it.
Elden ring is probably someone's first foray into esoteric gnosticism.
