She was frick-all. Straight up has no lore at all, and anyone who says anything different is cobbling together headcanon out of shit that isn't there.
She never even says if she's Marika's daughter or not, people just assume that for no reason.
There's absolutely nothing that indicates she'll even be in the DLC.

She fricks off in the base game and never gets her own ending. The DLC is confirmed not to add any endings. Anything they could possibly do with her in the DLC (which is already doubtful) would be pointless because of this. Not having her own ending destroyed all her waifu potential, especially when comparing her to Ranni. It's just fricking over for Melina bros and it has been for years. I don't know why this favoritism happened but Ranni's always been the only waifu choice.

It's not Melina who is a black knife assassin, the black knives had their blades of calling imbued with the rune of death.
Melina just did the same training the numens had before becoming black knife assassins, but without the rune of death part.
I honestly think she is a part of miquella's soul, it would explain her having knowledge about tree's for her dying spell and burning the erdtree in exchange of his soul, like ranni exchanged godwyn's soul to burn her body.

again both have their left eye kept shut by some sort of a tattoo/magical seal. and melina's tattoo/seal is related to the rune of death based on visuals and storywise, if the player chooses to go for the flame of frenzy ending and burns himself instead of melina after coming in contact with the three fingers, and unleash the rune of death and finish the game, melina is shown in the ending cutscene with her left eye opened. Could be related to the unleashing of the rune of death.
